    By some fluke of the RUclips algorithm this video was recommended to me while I was chilling out in my motel after just arriving in Lone Pine for a week of 4x5 photography. I really like your style and love to see how much work goes into scouting out different comps. Now I'm back from my trip I have been binge watching my way through your entire back catalog. I moved from the UK to CA last year so you've given me plenty of inspiration for future trips. Thank you for making these videos. I'd love to see some of your large prints some day!

    Besides your photos (which are always very beautiful) I'm really impressed by the way you edit your videos. They are much more cinematic than any of the other channels I enjoy: just really great story-telling with the images and how you sequence each scene. The scene of you climbing to the tent with the Moon was perfect in this one. Looking forward to your next video!

    in the shot with little pool, i see a bit of lens tilt, methinks...a long time since my Arcade Swiss / Rodenstock days, but nice to revisit the contemplative nature of large format...these days, even 35 mm film is more 'contemplative' than 20 FPS digital! (especially when using a T/S lens vs. 'focus stacking' ;=) )

    Another excellent video, Shane! Can't decide if I prefer the b&w or color negative for the reflected mountain shot at 13:01 - both are amazing photographs! Wondering if you're working towards a project of sorts, perhaps a photobook or an exhibition? Regards from Canada.

    • @shanedignum
      @shanedignum  2 года назад +2

      Thanks, Dika. The B&W work will be a separate body of work. Certainly a book one day, hopefully some gallery exhibitions in the future.

    • @MartinH81
      @MartinH81 2 года назад

      I prefer the B&W, because the blue is a bit dominant in the composition in my opinion. The B&W looks more balanced and that way the reflection comes out better I think.
      One thing I'm not entirely sure about is the rotation of the frame. Likely the setup was technically perfectly level, but the composition feels rotated clockwise, because of the mid-ground slopes I presume. Perhaps this is one of the more rare situations where you can get a away with not sticking to the 'perfectly level landscape photo'-paradigm.

    Curious about your thoughts on the Canham 8x10. Ive read that they can be a little wobbly, or not very sturdy (for instance removing the dark slide can shake the camera). Ive had my eye on one for a while, thinking about selling my Chamonix 8x10 for a Canham, I like the idea of switching lenses without moving the front standard into a new hole on the base. Anyway, great video, always look forward to your videos. ✌️

    • @shanedignum
      @shanedignum  2 года назад +4

      Thanks, Dustin. I’ve never been a fan of the Phillips design. Keith Canham has great customer service. His cameras are “springy”, but just give it an extra beat and let things calm down before exposing the sheet. If there’s a slight breeze or I’m close to the truck, my Toyo comes out. Maybe I’ll do a “what’s in my bag” video sometime in the near future.

    • @shanedignum
      @shanedignum  2 года назад

      I mainly process the film at home. If I have 20+ sheets of C41/E6, then sometimes it’s easier to take it to a lab. I always develop my own B&W.
