I truly wish that this program was something more available all over the United States and I wish people would be able to take advantage of this instead of sending these poor old old horses to auctions instead of just putting them down happily peacefully and not sending them through hell in their golden years. Agreed! And please don't be selfish by keeping them in constant pain just because you don't want to let them go! Love on them as much as need to, then take them to the vet or as this person and I agree, cuddle them while the vet does their job. Also, I learned this the hard way and am scared for life!!! Pay for extra drugs that get them very stoned before the final injection, you'll have less pain from having to let them go this way as you will know they did not feel a thing.

I think the new program is an excellent idea, instead of trying to cart these elderly horses away from homes they've known for so long you allow them to gently drift away in the comfort of their own home. No stress of a new place filled with new horses, sights, and sounds. Plus these horses often have very age related health problems such as arthritis and lack if teeth.
Daphne, what the heck was your problem?! It's crazy that she just suddenly decided "I want to be a massive problem," especially when she's clearly not had any reaction like that before.

This is a great service for Pony Tales to be able to offer.. l don't understand some owners when they have an old horse who is just not in good condition and has medical issues..what do they think you can do.? You're not miracle workers..and think of the stress on the horse..loaded on a trailer to somewhere they don't know with strangers no matter how loving you are..l think this is a great service Cindy .. its not that you don't want to rescue them..these two horses were past rescue health wise..just look at those cancerous growths on Queenie..they were bad and she was the younger horse..!
My goodness gracious what an eventful episode..!! Halo is in so much pain bless her..l hope something cam be done..Molly..well Pauly got her feet in good condition then the new owners ignored his advice on her shoes and she has had to go through all this again..!! THEN..OH MY LORD..was it Daphne ?.. l didn't think you were going to get her out of those stocks !! Ive never heard so many bleeps from Pauly..!! Even when he comes across stupid stuff..that was absolutely frightening..!! That poor draft..got a pinched nerve from an ill fitting harness..these people just dont give a 💩 do they..!! .. I hope rest helps him and he can be lightly ridden..like kids..that would be idea as like most drafts..they're just so damn gentle..a 48 minute episode..l say YAY..bring it on..more please 😂 great that Molly and Happy are adopted together and that surrendered Penny is ok..🇬🇧💕✝️🙏👍👏🌈🐎🐎🐎🇺🇸

For those who do not know it is called "Pining". They love their owners so much that when taken from them, they would rather die than be without them. This part is only my opinion, I believe they also suffer from the emotion "betrayal", just as you or I would feel when dumped! I am not guilt free from this myself and pay the price daily from years back because of it when I did not understand!

Our local SPCA has a euthanasia program to help owners who need assistance when their sick or very aged pets are beyond help. I had a 18 yr old Doberman who had doggy senility, saying farewell was hard but in his best interest, he left surrounded by family not strangers.

Yes, it's a thankless decision to have to put an old and sick beloved pet down but their end needs to have their family with them at that time. I was with all of our dogs at their end. They breathed their last breath out and I breathed their last breath in. They knew they were loved and safe in the end. It hurts, a LOT but I HAD to be with them. I hugged them, told them how much we loved them. No matter how much time goes by I never forget their last minutes and seeing them calm and trusting while they go.

I think this program for the old horses is truly the best decision. If these horses end up on greener pastures anyway, but with added stress and suffering if you had to take them in first, then it is way more humane to put them down. I can totally understand the owners not wanting their beloved pets to pass away, but it is not worth the added suffering. I cannot stand the kind of animal owners who keep making their animal survive as long as possible, when the whole way till the end the animal just suffers more and more. I have lost beloved pets before, and I know how hard it is, but at some point it is just more cruel to keep the animal suffering.

13:30 To me, it looks like the bit is both placed to high in the mouth, and it's too wide.
Which is why she doing what she's doing.
What you can do, is take the bit down, a hole or two, also replace it with a straight snaffle, that might reduce the amount of irritation she feels about the bit.
Sensitive horses will express discomfort quite easily, and need bits that are more quiet in their mouth.

Thanks for the video, the intro to the new program was lengthy and I know why you tried to explain everything to the last detail, It's The Right Thing To Do. Many people have no idea how to close that door even though it has to be done, and should be when they need it. Good and solid plan.

I understand fully where your coming from ty Cindy for explaining this to others. Yes it's an amazing gift you give to these last dear ladies. It's never easy to loose a pet, even harder when their your own pets !! It's sad they left their only place, yet they never had to leave and be transported to another place as well.

Cindy what a great program. Horses do go down quickly with the stress of big changes. Thank you for helping with the humane program. It is one more way for horses not to end up in the pipeline.

This is better for these old horses to be given the last act of kindness with their first owners and they will not be in pain or sold or abused

For respect and dignity, full marks! Filming was definitely not the thing to do. Thank you and Dr Kristen for being these horses’ best refuge in the face of unnecessary upheaval and chaos. Good for the family making the unselfish choice!❤️❤️

So appreciative your rescue is able to offer this option, when appropriate. THAT is truly an act of love, care and all-encompassing responsibility.
Had to put my 28 yr old Belgian mare down last March. She was a PMU survivor I adopted at 12 yrs old and paid for by the pound!
Thankfully, a neighbor provided a backhoe to properly bury her here on my farm after my vet gently put her down. She was starting to have difficulty keeping good body condition and pain-free from arthritis, despite supplements, pain meds, etc. The cost of the euthanasia drugs was over 2x for a light horse. I was barely able to cover that sudden cost. The backhoe service was gifted to me and made it possible to spare her being trailered anywhere.
She nickered to me as I approached with her halter and calmly stood while she was first sedated, then euthanized. She will never be forgotten, nor will the wonderful vet & neighbor who helped me care for her that one last time. Forever loved.

I'm truly sorry for your loss..but you are obviously a good and loving horse 🐎 owner..who made that hard but right decision to give your beautiful horse the last act of kindness..and you were there so not in a strange place with strange and new people or sent into the slaughter pipeline to make a last bit of money..!! I just wish there were more responsible owners like you.. Cindy offering this service..and IT IS a service..that the horse cam be in their home..with their owner..no extra stress of loading into a trailer..the travel..getting out somewhere new..all of that is extra stress..you not being there..this is the right way to do it..and it would have been the same result if Pony Tales had taken them in..the 35 yr old was in poor body condition and look at the cancer in the 28 yr old Queenie..that was bad. MUCH BETTER this way..still so sad..broke me seeing the young lady hugging them..but gosh the best way to cross over the 🌈 bridge..peacefully..they can run free together again..🇬🇧💕✝️🙏👍👏🐎🐎🇺🇸

Just by watching this video, was very heartbreaking! Anytime you see something like this, it always brings tears to my eyes! And you are absolutely right,by putting the animals first helping this to go down w/ less stress as possible!😢😢😢

Thanks for guiding people through the right choice, however painful it must be. I'm making a very modest donation; use for whatever you need, but know that it was this sad story that spurred me to give.
