Chainsaw Powered Air Compressor Project
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 май 2020
- On today's adventure we adapt a gas Sears chainsaw to power a 3 gallon Harbor Freight air compressor! Why? Well, why not! Taking advantage of the existing clutch on the chainsaw allows the use of a pressure switch to control the throttle, and with it the compressor. This make it a lot easier to have a functioning pump cycle with idle time in between. Having a mini gas powered compressor when you don't have access to electricity will definitely come in handy at times!
This was also a challenge just to see if it could be done. You ever have a crazy idea for a project rolling around in the back of your mind? - Авто/Мото
Who else is here from Ziptiesnbiasplies
I am 😂😂
Yup
Yep
Me! Hahaha
Lol yup good old peg leg sent me!
My standards usually are on the low side, and I try to remain in good spirits, though life does have a tendency to throw me a curve ball more often than I'd like. Love your attitude, I wish more people could be as steady as that.
Thanks man, appreciate it it! 👍
Always great projects. Nothing better than free stuff. I really appreciate the mowers, outboards, ice augers, snowblowers, etc I get from people with a lack of mechanical skills.
Haha, yup, free is the best price!
That's a manly air compressor
That was a really cool project.🙂
I really appreciated that you used high quality zip ties. Don't want to go low quality and try to use packing tape or something. Again, cool build. Take it easy man.🙂
Thanks man! You're right, we never skimp on materials with these projects. ;)
Random thought, can you take a 2cyl motor, make it a thumper, and have the idle cyl act as a compressor? weld the exhaust valve shut, preplace intake spring on the air side cylinder with something way lighter, and have the output at the spark plug hole. Need to think more about the crank angle considerations. If its 180* it will REALLY thump, since you loose crank momentum via two compression cycles, one on the air side and one on the next compression stroke of the gas side. Could work though. might be a lot smaller of a package than this too, with a potentially larger CFM than that little HF compressor.
It’s Jason vorhese’s air compressor! We love it nothing but the best chinesseum! It’s great.
''Their is an all night Judas Priest marathon going on''. This project has some Mad Max vibes going on. This is honestly amazing!!

That's too cool 😎, nice portable unit 👌
Was a perfect candidate for the ole measurement-free base gasket delete. Definitely clearance in there.
Haha, wanted to make sure it would still be good on 87
I like how you think out sude the box. Great video
Thanks man!
This turned out pretty darn good for a prototype/first version. I think you could refine this into a bolt-on kit you could sell.
That's pretty cool a little more work and she'll be mint
That’s actually siiiiiick
That’s cool, surprised they don’t have something similar for sale
Gas engine compressors are pretty common with roofers and builders.
They do have a lot of them, there just really fucking expensive
Very informative and well done, continue the great work, Thank you for the content
Wow I might actually try doing this! Great video!
Brilliant project. If that saw was a little older and had a manual oiler. You could plumb it into the compressor cylinder/piston for that occasional oiling you mentioned.
By the way, I knew this was going to be a good one so I saved it until my frozen pizza was cooked to watch it while I ate.
Ha! Now that would be something!
Amazing! That's the same saw I had and gave up on, it had a long life 15 years or so, cut a lot of wood. Nice work.
Cool. I think the torn carb boot was why the saw originally went down, but was a good saw otherwise.
nice job man very inventive im gonna try that when i get my shop set up
Nice. I'm going to put a new chain drive on then run this one til I find a slightly larger compressor head, then graft it on there.
Over time you will get the hang of it and get to know the welding machine better . Your welds looked good. Biggest thing is that you get enough penetration. I myself bought a Mig a few years back. I like Stick better. And my welds looked alot worse then yours. Alot worse...LOL..But overtime Ive gotten better, not no wheres near perfect but they hold the welds. Doing stuff like you did here a mig is Perfect for.Great Video thank you for sharing...
That's a great idea you got there!
Thanks!
Use. The tip off the bar if it was a roller tip
That's a good idea! Not sure if it has enough teeth, but definitely would have been easier than making the throwing star, haha.
Thanks! Very enjoyable. I'm a subscriber now! Good fun.
Thanks for watching!
This is awesome
Nice!
I have the same compressor but man that's a good modification
Thanks! Have many hours on your compressor? I'm wondering how long the compressor is going to last.
@@toocheaptosmoke I have it for almost 2 year and it's still going strong
Awesume n funny n cool all at the sametime , well done
Haha, thanks!
I’ve had one on the back burner for a couple of years. Hopefully will finish it soon. Using older version of this compressor and weed eater
Sounds like the compressor for my air horns
You could have left the electronic motor in line and used it as a generator.
Great video, thank you.
Buying new parts is scary 😂
That is the truth! haha
Babe wake up! toocheaptosmoke posted
No this is a channel I subscribe to 👍👍👍👍
That’s about the goofiest thing I’ve ever seen ! Lmao. That ranks right up there with the Blogger ( snowblower / ice auger ) and the Sucar ( suitcase car ) and a few more than escapes me right now ! Lmao 😂
Nylon fasteners 😆
Nice work. Even better analogies
Haha, thanks! Zip ties can hold the world together.
just pipe the exhaust straight to the tank for extra pressure
AvE esque in the style of this video.
Peg was right. Minty 👌
Zip ties brought me here.
Hell yeah! Thanks for watching.
Yup that's sweet
Awesome !
Thanks!
Zip ties has a long lost PC brother
The pump part of that original "air compressor" is literally the same as a 12V tire inflator
Damn, you always outdoing yourself toocheap!!!!!
Thanks man, always gotta keep trying!
Good luck with that
Nice
needs to be belt driven and a quieter exhaust
now i will try the orig switch setup like this. was goin to get the air feed throttle control. but hell... wtf for lol .. u should have used the orig bar or a bar that fit it..
complimentiiii
thanks!
LOL,, loved it,, but hate chainsaw motors,,, swap it with a Brigs !!
Haha, would throw the back out moving it!
Idea: put a bigger tank on it, tape down the throttle and throw it . it will rev out of control and the tank will explode creating the most badass bomb ever.
Get a clutch cover for a go-kart it uses regular chain
Is that an old pair of drawers up on your workbench??
I'm NEW! thanks for the recommend, #ZTNBP
Cool
Nice! Peg sent me!
Sweet! Thanks for watching, and merry christmas!

Did I just find AVE's american cousin?
Edit: yes, yes I did.
Haha, thanks!
34 cent teflon tape lol
This is what angels look like I literally just smoked Nd came up with this and had to search YT bro I'm in
With engineering like that we need to go back to the moon. I believe NASA is calling.
They must have contacted him because they accomplished that just a month after this moment
Should do a oil drip on compressor and wrist pin
Yeah, that would have been a good use for the chain oiler!
Build a lawnmower into a snowmobile, just put skis on the front wheel hubs, I'm 13, and could do that in an instant
It would be hilarious 😂
Why would he want to do that when he has tons of actual snowmobiles
@@dreamingbigcustoms9860for shits and giggles
Years ago I made a 5 hp lawnmower engine powered snowmobile, haha.
@@toocheaptosmoke I was thinking about doing that once as like a full size kid snowmobile
Isn’t the RPM annotated on the motor?
Your Sears saw is most likely a Poulon with sear name and color , so you have two choices for parts 😉
Good to know!
Trader horn was the best store around
This guy is fukn mint 👌..
Humor me and clip those zip tie ends off..
Color me fuckin’ impressed. They say innovation is born of necessity, but I think it’s born from guys with too much time and too many scrap parts
now ya got me curious about using a 4 stroke engine, with a belt drive, the same way you have that throttle set on this unit. no way that i want to give $1200 or more for an unloader valve to build a gas powered compressor unit with a 4 stroke if the throttle can be done the same as you did with the 2 stroke.
Yeah man, would be cool if it could work on that also. Heck, could possibly wig up a pressure with powered relay and solenoid if you got battery power.
saw chain sprocket is couple bucks, take the other saws drive sprocket off. use it.
That was definitely a problem area, needed something with a higher tooth count to reduce the speed.
@@toocheaptosmoke right . great videos . i build stuff . i put a swing arm solid axle behind my murry tractor. i chain drive it from the old transaxle. making a double chain tightener so i have reverse was one of my greatest accomplishments . i bet you can understand that . thanks again for the videos
What is the reasoning behind this ?
So glad u didn’t use the poulan!
Might have plans for that in another project, haha.
🤣👍🏻
Mint!
i kinda knew the poulan would be garbage for sure.
U ant to make another one whit a weed eater moater
Do you need money for compressor bro ? 😧
HEY too cheap to smoke! Do a mint fcking Burnout 👌
We just burned em last night, I still smell like burnt rubber! Lol
Zip ties sent me over here your a thrifty dude
Haha, nice! We try to save whenever possible. :)
Why dont you use the car ac its much more powerfull
Mainly size and power requirements. Those are good for adding onboard air to a vehicle though.
@@toocheaptosmoke i agree 👍 they're not bad
. 6 cfm is almost unusable
I can't see any value to this project.
