Thank you pastor David. Impulse could be very dangerous. Circumstances could be mere circumstances. When you run from the Lord, we would never get where we wanted to go and we would have to pay the fare . When we obey God and let Him lead us, we could get to the place God wants and He would provide and pay the fare. Amen.

You have to love God's sense of humor with Jonah - (as if a man could run away from God)
1st off - It is little wonder the Pharisees and Sadducees of Jesus day turned out as they did, nearly the same happened to Peter was he not confronted by Paul. You see Jonah was very proud of his religious and national heritage (God cares about neither - He seeks obedience no matter their place of origin or color of skin). Jonah like the religious leaders of Jesus day, would claim, I am from Abraham and Moses why do I or anyone else need to go preach to stinky heathen pagan Gentiles, it is beneath us, besides he didn't want to see them repent, he wanted them all to be destroyed and go to hell. Some heart of a preacher eh?
That said, what did God do? Well, he let Jonah think he got away with it (for a while - as many do) then - after what many would consider a sure death being tossed over during an ocean storm, God sends a whale and Jonah becomes fish food. Think about that next Lent fish sandwich you order at McDonalds ... I may be eating Jonah.
But here is the funny part, even without saying a word, this becomes THE GREATEST REVIVAL of his time, at least 120,000 repent even cats and dogs in sackcloth. You ask why and how? Thanks for asking.
Can you imagine, this bald, bleached smelly white old guy walking thru the streets of Nineveh who appeared to be like a Zombie of The Walking Dead? Perhaps Jesus smiled recalling this moment when he called the Pharisees white-washed walking sepulchers or tombs of the dead, nice on the outside, rotten and smelly on the inside, a reverse Jonah. That would be funny if the same happened to them in Jesus time - may have caused even more repentance.
So people who were living high and well, the affluent, must have freaked out, and from the least to the great, all decided they needed to seek God, and make a sorrowful confession and change from their ways, for destruction was on the agenda like it is now for USA.
God relented due to their prayers and repentance (and Jonah's 2nd chance to obey) and they were spared another 150-200 yrs until they reverted.
    Great humor from the Lord.
