In the Municipality of Libon Albay there is an abandoned farmland approximately 3000 hectare left side of National Road going to Pantao down to lake Bato. I wonder what happen to these farm now they are all grassland. It is a riceland in 1980.
Because Philippines contrary to popular belief does not have that much fertile land. It’s more of acidic. Second, we get hit with average 20 typhoons a year while Vietnam you compared Philippines to only get hits 4 typhoons a year. Thirdly, Philippines don’t have access to one of the biggest and most fertile river in the world like Mekong River. In fact, We don’t even have enough freshwater in summer season. Fourth, we are more than 7000 island nation. Homogenous countries like Vietnam with access to Mekong river that provides fertile water all year round and also provide hydroelectricity which is one of the cheapest energy source do really have huge geographic advantages compared to us.
Regardless, total land area of 29M hectare less than 14% is arable but prime land is made into malls. [arking lots etc not planted when typhoons arrive. We need to plan. Also people should learn not to blow a good harvest, with a big party., Many farmers are hard working but disappears after planting.
May 1 or 2 person nagtatago ng product at ilalabas lang pag malapit ng maubus ang supply para mapilitan ang gobyarno mag import.chinese bilhin lahat ang ani at itago sa big bodega at ilabas nalang pag wala ng supply.
We have enough harvest because i myself is a farmer . The problem is greedy businessmen cartel in cahoots of corrupt government agencies farmers is at their mercy. Usually middlemen hordes the rice and stored it in their big warehouses just like vegetable, at peak harvest raw rice only cost 15 pesos roughly 3.7 cent US. If you buy 50kls. rice in the market it peg at 37 US. Normally you will spend 600 US in 1 hec. Farm expenses and will produce this is only ave.100 sacks ×60 kls. = 6 tons x 15 or equivalent to 1,600 US the gain of your harvest. Only one month a farmer can enjoy the good price. The cartel will import rice to bring the buying price to 15 pesos. That is why Philippines become the biggest importer of rice and vegetable. Because of scropolous middlemen and people incharge of regulatory board of permit.
Ricefields are converted into residential lots thus, there are no more farmlands in the rice- producing provinces. Another reason is- most Filipinos prefer white-collar jobs to farming. I am worried thinking of the future generation. I am sure after all the ricefields become residential and commercial lots, where will the Filipinos get food? Of course the government will resort to importation of rice and vegetables. Poor Filipinos can hardly afford the high prices of these commodities!! It's really alarming!!!!
It takes a 5th grader to see that we need land to plant rice. 115 million hungry mouths takes an average of half kilo per head (Average) eats 57.5 Million Tons a day!! Prime land are made into malls, parking lot etc
When the late President Ferdinand Marcos , economy in the Philippines is okay, after the EDSA revolution this is what happened, as i heard SM now controlled 80% of the Philippines economy.
The biggest problem that I have seen is the reluctance of, or the unwillingness to change. Filipinos are so caught up in their culture, and traditions that they have blinded themselves to new possibilities. I live in the province with farmers here. Most of them do not own any farmland. They are sharecroppers. They get a small percentage of the harvest for payment from the land owner. The harvesters took away the jobs of people harvesting. More machines will take away the carabao drivers that take the bagged rice to the road side. Machines that automatically plant the rice in the fields will take away the planters. You lose jobs more, and the harvesting is less with the “reapers.” Half the rice lies on the ground. In one field you can get ten extra koban of rice left after the harvesters move on. Drying the rice on the side of the road/ highway is the best way to contaminate the rice, corn, shrimps, and other foods. There is so much particulate matter (feces, urine, etc) left by both animals, and humans. Drying food products on roads and highways is illegal in the Philippines. How about creating drying facilities combined with rice mills where these products won’t get contaminated.
Noong yun Po ngaun Wala nang mapagtaninam ang mga parmers ang palaya sa Philippines ngaun ginawa nang subdivision kaya kunti na lang ang palayan sa Philippines ngaun
one thing that increased the country's rice consumption is the "unli" rice that started in restaurants like Mang Inasal and became a widespread scheme for attracting customers.
BECAUSE THEY ARE WORKING IN ABROAD AND ALSO ONE THING THEY ARE LIKE TO TASTE OTHER PRODUCT OF THE WORLD.. BUT IS NOT BECAUSE OF PLANTING. THEY SAID, MUCH CHEAPER IN PHILIPPINES THAN MALAYSIA OR VIETNAM BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MONOPOLIZE THEIR LONGING,, THEY BUY PRODUCT FROM OTHER LAND WE NEED ALSO IMPORTED THINGS, UNLIKE SOME OTHER LAND THEY ONLY DEPEND ONLY THEIR OWN PRODUCT.
Hindi na yan totoo. Ubos na ang taniman ng palay sa pilipinas dahil sa subdivisions at big Warehouses ng mga chinnese. Do not post Untrue info. Not anymore philippines no.1 rice producer of Rice. Nag i import nga kami. We are mot born yesterday.

This is the answer.. It's really hard to plant here in the Philippines..

Even the president who heads the department of agriculture cannot do anything to improve production.
that is a massive undertaking, we should implement a whole nation approach if we want to be rice sufficient
Corrupt kasi 😡
truth be told. the number 1 challenge we face in the field are the farmers resistant to change.
