I grew up in Montesano in the 50's and we would ride our bikes out to the Shaffer Brothers Roundhouse east of town about four miles. Little did I know that all of those delightful steam locomotives would be gone before I knew it. Good video, brought back some good memories.
This is so great... I am glad to see this....Today they say you can't log, you can't coal, you can't oil;......what next ...can't live .. just do nothing ..But this is great
From what I've seen Simpson (for now) has retained ownership of the railroad. What are the chances of some or all of the log trains coming back to serve the new Sierra Pacific mill?
mafarnz Perhaps when SPI has their new mill built (they say by 2017) there may be a use for the RR, as far as bringing logs in from Dayton, where the soon-to-be former dry sort yard could be "re-purposed" as a reload area. So there would still be a period of dormancy before then.
This would make a great shelf layout 👍
I loved this operation , especially the turn table. I can't believe 2 men could turn that heavy locomotive
26:05 A hand operated turntable. Very interesting. Never have seen one before.

They should turn this line into a scenic railway it would be a great way to preserve the last logging railway in the US
Awesome! Thoroughly enjoyed this video! :-)
The library would like a copy of this for our local history section.

Joel Hawthorn Well hopefully Simpson will take a long term look at things and not scrap or abandon.
I hope they convert it from rails to trails.
What's the latest? I see a speeder, NARCOA loves short lines, get them on your side.
I enjoyed the vid, but wish you had more story-telling and LESS WHISTLE BLOWING.
