I love how Stottlemeyer was never portrayed as stupid. This isn't the first time that he had a gut feeling or noticed something was off about the case, and only then brought in Monk. He was a genuinely good detective, just sometimes overshadowed by the freakishly skilled Monk.
You are right. Because of the few famous episodes where Monk or Natalie is related to the case somehow it often gets over looked but the most common way any of the cases start is that the captain brings in Monk of his own choice.
It makes sense, you don't put your super detective on cases you're confident the average detective will solve but the boss has to be clever enough to tell an average from a Monk case.

I see detectives do that a lot in films and TV, and I've often questioned the wisdom of it. But the person on the other end is either a potential witness of some sort, or a perpetrator. If they are a witness who could shine a light on the victim's life then there is no harm, and if it is the perpetrator then they have to think on their feet to sound surprised at the death and to give a good explanation- you might not be expecting a call from the police so soon after the death, and if you see your victim's number coming up on your phone that could be shocking and make it harder to concentrate on a convincing lie. In any case, the only way I can see this move going wrong is if the perpetrator had expected to not be connected to the victim at all (impossible in this case, as it is plain he knew her well), and panics at the realisation the police know he spoke to her, in which case he might take a hostage or simply do a runner and never be caught.

There’s one more piece of evidence that makes it clear that it wasn’t suicide. The knot used was inconsistent, you don’t just tie the rope around your neck, you wouldn’t be able to see if it worked. If someone were to attempt such a thing, you would use a slip knot, where it would tighten the noose when it was pulled, it’s actually how a hangman’s noose worked. Don’t get me wrong, there are other uses for a slip knot, but that was one of the main ways to use it.
I wouldnt expect every suicidal person to have extensive knowledge on hangman's knots. In fact, I'm pretty sure there have been tons of botched suicide attempts that came about specifically because the person didn't know what they were doing.

The side kick officer was always annoying to watch. Also, Monk solves all these crimes, and everytime he tells the captain something, he always doesn't believe it at first or quickly dismisses Monk like Monk doesn't know what he's doing. So annoying.
Ideal for 7 passengers of 5'6.5" height. Can you easily turn off the Encap mandated speed warning? Heat pump optional? No one pedal driving? Easy option to add to the software. Come on Peugeot, keep up! These are near no cost tweaks. Thanks for the review.
I hated so much the murder in this episode. The smug attitude and insistence in diminish Monk annoyed me so much, I loved seeing him lose 😈
Leland is like the complete opposite of Buffalo Bill, and that always amazes me.
Okay, so he did take that photo, but the lens cover closed before the "flash" went off. I couldn't be bothered to check the sound.
Wow showing a person hanging on regular daytime TV? Crazy
This is rare, but I never watched this episode. What Season and Episode is this?
Season 4 episode 14
Stottlemeyer is such a great character, and Levine is such a good actor, but I can't hardly listen to him talk without hearing Buffalo Bill.
@@battlesheep2552 yes, but most people wouldn’t simply tie a noose around their neck. Also, since it was clearly staged to look like a suicide, the point is moot.
Fun fact: Co-producer Daniel Dratch is Rachel Dratch's brother
Yeah she appeared on the show
0:20 you can clearly see that she was not dead for 5 days.
Closest we'll get to the USA Burn Notice/Monk crossover
I think I'm one of the few people I know that occasionally smiles when sad I think it's rage that I keep trying to suppress because I've lived through alot I never got justice I got tossed aside
