@Xlr012 It's all tuning. Here's some info that might help: It's a maple snare drum (Pearl Chad Smith signature series) with the snares off. The skin is an Evans st dry. Another thing is the skin is old, used up, and lifeless so it helps in the dead sound it makes. I used my drum key and tweaked it to sound similar to the tone of that drum in the original song.

@MrFoxaaay I only had to learn the chorus beat and it took me maybe 15 minutes of taking it slow and repeating it, then playing it faster and transitioning into it from the verses. The rest of the song structure didn't take very long either. A few play-throughs and it's down. It helps that the song has a constant tempo, 4/4 time, and naturally placed 8 or 16 bar sections.

@JAAGorospe A few things go into it, but the major factor is proper tuning. The other factors are in the mixing process like gating, EQ, and compression. Having no ring in the toms is definitely from good tuning. Thanks for the compliment.

@665sms So it starts off with a pick up on the secondary snare (+a4e+a). The one is a solid kick and closed hat at the same time. The kick hits on the 1s, the +s of beat 2, and beat 4. Main snare only hits on the 3s. The remaining stuff is between the hi hat and the secondary snare and it mimics the pattern in the original song. It's a 4 bar pattern that repeats 4 times. My best suggestion is to play it slow until the pattern's right; remember to be loose and emphasize the 1s and 3s.
