I like Zep, though the countless Guitar tracks for each song is over the top,,.
And tell the truth my father had listened to some obscure bands in those days and that there are a lot of artists that actually put out songs that led Zeppelin chose to put on the records , without crediting the Writers of those tracks.
It's one thing to cover a song, but to include these tracks while failing to provide the original authors is not good,
The Tracks are some of their best known songs..
Joan Baez is but one of those artist who hasn't received a dime for their own song.

The thing about Led Zeppelin is that each one of them is one of the best at their respective discipline. With the Beatles, they’re all talented/skilled, but their greatness is more about their innovation, versatility and impact. Zeppelin is just 4 prodigies going HAM, which is also a lightning in a bottle situation.

Originally came for the Beatles, stuck around because you are a cool human.
Whole Lotta Love just brought back a funny memory. My dad was a big fan of Zep and once, when I was like seven or eight, we were out traveling in the motorhome (this would be in the eighties) and I was supposed to be taking a nap in the back but my dad forgot to cut the speakers back there, so I'm laying on the bed and Jimmy's guitars and Plant's vocals are swirling around the room. I just remember my eyes being wide open, staring at the ceiling, listening... little me and psychedelia. Hahaha, I never stood a chance!

I think what you said about how every member is perfect for Led Zeppelin is more true for them than it is for The Beatles. What was crazy about The Beatles is more like 3 contenders for the greatest songwriter of all time and one of the most revolutionary drummers of all time happened to all grow up in the same town, became the most popular musical act of all time, and then proceeded to also become the most innovative musical act of all time. Like, Led Zep is kind of a supergroup to begin with, Jimmy Page was an established guitarist in The Yardbirds who went and looked for the perfect members for his heavy ass Blues band, but The Beatles sort of serendipitously happened to meet up and then revolutionized the entire music world and even culture itself.

    • @helmedon
      @helmedon 4 месяца назад +2

The cool thing is that neither group would have worked with different members. They each brought something unique to each band's overall sound and the journey their respective careers took. If not for the tragic deaths of John Lennon and John Bonham. Well, the Beatles had already split but there was potential to further projects. Zeppelin just halted when Bonham died. They said they couldn't carry on without him. Imagine Jimmy Page and John Lennon working together with Paul McCartney and John Paul Jones.

My introduction to Led Zeppelin 2 was in the friend's automobile. He had purchased a new sound system for his car, complete with a cassette deck. We were riding to a newly racially integrated high school. I must have been a sophomore and it was 1972 and I was probably 14. The Vietnam war had not yet ended. The Pentagon Papers, proving all administrations from Truman to Nixon had lied to us about the Vietnam war, had been known about for only 1 year. That is how old this is. And yet, this British music was an ANSWER to the even older American music from the 40s, 50s and 60s.

I typically refer to them as "Zeppelin." Can't believe people givin' ya crap about that. 😂😂😂
"He (Bonham) gotta have blisters on his fingers..." Is that a "Helter Skelter" call back? 😊 I GOT BLISTAHS ON MA FINGAHS...
This album is crazy good. "The Brown Bomber" as it is affectionately referred to, because of the color of the album jacket. "Thank You" is such a beautiful song. I'm not typically one for love songs, but man, that's absolutely beautiful. ❤ I love rockin' and rollin', but damn...
"There's Robert Plants everywhere!" 😂😂😂 They did love panning left-right-left-right. "Whole Lotta Love" had a LOT of that shit.
Best way to listen to this album (and many others!) is after smokin' a nice fatty, kickin' back in your most comfy chair, and crankin' the shit out of it, headphones (no ear buds!) or a proper stereo. 😊😊😊
III is a curveball. Probably 2nd-to-last on my list of their albums, but it most def has some gems on it. But for me, it's def not front-to-back like their first or II. IV (or "The Runes" or "Zoso", depending on who you're talking/listening to) and the rest (with the exception of the album "Presence") are front-to-back listens.
I can't rank I, II, IV, or Physical Graffiti...I love them all.

One of great things about Zeppelin is they carved out their own territory and original sound.
When a reporter asked Page how the Beatles influenced Zeppelin musically he said: we sound nothing like the Beatles. So musically they broke away and did their own thing. Which is very impressive because everyone was trying to sound like the Beatles and Zeppelin didn’t copy them at all. Very impressive!
The Lemon song is a reworking of an old blues song. Plant didn’t write those lyrics or whole lotta love. You need love by Willie Dixon who wrote the lyrics.
The riff is zeppelins but not the lyrics.

    • @MsAppassionata
      @MsAppassionata 3 месяца назад

Well, they may not sound like The Beatles but they were certainly influenced by them. The backwards guitars, the sound traveling from one speaker to another (a la “Revolution #9”), the fadeout and fade back in of certain songs, the amount of musical experimentation they were allowed to get away with, etc.

In August, 1971 (sorry, I’m old) some friends and I drove 350 miles in a VW bus to see Led Zeppelin in concert. It was the most memorable concert ever! The performance was awesome as expected, ending with three encores. Nobody wanted to leave.
When the lights finally came on, we could barely see through the cloud of smoke hanging over the floor, which was a sea of brown stubby beer bottles. Throughout the evening, police and dogs were on the catwalks above. The next day we were surprised to hear that while we were all inside the arena, there had been a full blown riot outside. Crazy!

Moby Dick is essentially a John Bonham drum solo. He is playing on his full drum kit but is using his hands instead of drumsticks. He sometimes uses one hand pressing flat on the snare drum skin and the other hand to tap it making a 'bongo-like' sound. By moving his flat hand on different areas of the snare drum skin he alters the pitch of the bongo sound.

"The Lemon Song" builds off "Killing Floor" by Howlin' Wolf. But the bass and drums are all Led Zeppelin. The faster bits -- the rave up -- kept with the style back then. The spicy lyrics are from Robert Johnson's "Travelling Riverside Blues". Jimi Hendrix recorded a cover of "Killing Floor" for The Jimi Hendrix Experience BBC Sessions. Check it out for contrast.

Enjoy your honest reactions. Your enthusiasm. Love it!
This is my favorite band of all time. They literally changed rock music forever. They did things no one ever did before. Jimmy Page produced every album…..giving the band the freedom to be creative. You said “I can’t follow these guys!” They made long interesting songs with unexpected changes. Tempo changes. Mood changes. Each song is a journey…..just listen….dont expect anything…..these aren’t computer made pop songs of the 2020s.

Great reaction, man. The camera quakeshake thing when a song's kicking your ass is especially entertaining, lol. I like to think of The Beatles as "The Greatest" group, and Led Zeppelin as "The Best" band. The Beatles' innovations and influence were beyond any other band by far, and their brilliance beyond words. Zep ("Led" is fine, btw -- there are no "rules" for what to call them, lol!) were, as Robert Plant said, "The Ultimate Quartet." Founded by Jimmy Page, who sought Excellence above all when recruiting for his project, and so all were quite equal in stature, no one really "carried" the group, right? Each one arguably the best on their particular instrument, and then there's the way they gelled, their mesmerizing live shows, their -- like The Beatles -- hunger for musical exploration, and still producing amazing stuff no matter what genre they tried.
Which is why the next one, "III," MIGHT be a bit of a shock for you. There ARE I&II type electric "bangers," but there are also several softer, acoustic numbers. ALL of them brilliant, yeah, lol, but it's their "quietest" album. You loved "Thank You" and "Ramble On," so you may well really appreciate it. Some really fine Plant moments on it for sure. Maybe the "centerpiece/masterpiece" of the album is the pure (and very electric! ) blues creation they wrote themselves (i.e. not "borrowing" it from Past Legends, lol), "Since I've been loving you."
But some have said of the third album: "This ain't Zeppelin, WTF?" Oh but it is -- it's them realizing they walk this folky, softer path just as well, lol. However, your honesty is admirable, and if you don't dig it too much, fair enough, no harm no foul. All their albums have a mix of "hard and soft" sounds, but the remaining five after III are more like I & II. Only, yeah, some would say: even better, lol! My fave is "Physical Graffiti," four albums away, but it's hard to choose among the eight studio albums they made, man-- there really ARE no bad songs at all, just different. They really ARE that fuckin' great.

Nice video. For the Trifecta of ‘60s genius do the 3 Jimi Hendrix LPs released in his lifetime, Are You Experienced, Axis Bold As Love, and Electric Ladyland. In the day Beatles and Hendrix were my first musical heroes. Still are.

Yo, amigo!! I'm glad to see you diggin' on Zep! The MIGHTY!! Their album catalog is heavy! Great albums, Zep 4, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti are all great. I would say Zep 2 & 4 are my favorites.. I dunno if you're planning on listening to all albums in full. At some point of course you may want to,..but to hear all the best songs now Mothership is a pretty good best of. Love & peace!

"You Shook Me" is the bluesiest song on the album. Early rock and roll incorporated a lot of blues in the music, and was also called "rhythm and blues," to separate it from straight blues. There's not so much blues in modern music, and with a slower beat, songs such as this are not as popular with younger listeners. Once you learn to identify the blues genre, you'll hear how it influenced the early rock sound.

I've enjoyed your reactions to this album and also the first Led Zeppelin album!! Your honesty and perception are top notch!!! I believe you're 100% correct about the feel of this album as compared to the first one!! Definitely more thought out and less of a jam feel, as you pointed out!!!
I'm going to say that John Bonham is definitely the best rock and roll drummer to have EVER lived!!! I would also say, in my opinion, that the top three rock drummers of ALL TIME are John Bonham, Carl Palmer, and Neil Peart!!! I put Bonham ahead of the other two because of the size of his kit and what he was able to do with it!! As compared to Neil Peart or Carl Palmer who have massive kits!!!!

Do you see how much it helped to just listen without the lyrics? :) Led Zeppelin is like a rock super team where every member excel at their craft. Oh, and sometimes when the guitar sounds dreamy and cinematic it's because Jimmy Page is using a bow (like a cello or violin bow).

I am in awe of your spot on takes on these tracks. Living Lovin Maid was Jimmy Page's least favorite songs because he was unhappy with its misogyny. And don't put down your "little ears." You pick up things that many longtime fans don't hear. Bravo. And just to repeat it's not LED, it's ZEP.

Though the Beatles were great too, they really didn’t reach their height until later, Zeppelin hit hit right out of the gate & got better. Thank You was written by Plant for his wife, she paid the bills etc. while he was building his career.
