    I feel relieved watching them digging up such loose ground. I dug for 8 hrs with help back then during my field camp and it still wasn't complete at the end of the day, because the ground was rock hard compacted, with roots and rocks not far underneath. Not to mention, it was the hottest and dryest part of the year, and I was already out of water since the beginning of Day 2 but resupply is nowhere in sight. We marched to the campsite on Day 1 as part of route march training too.

Everywhere filled with moderate growing grass and trees everywhere (Smth like a plantation) so digging shellscape was a pain in the ass (Most of us didn't even managed to dig completely with 2 days allocated due to cat 1.
    And wow the sgts actually went a day earlier to set up the latrine. Meanwhile my coy made us set it up ourselves 😅 and rmb the fun times of sitting on the tool while other guys turn it like a merry go round.

    Best thing that happened to me was National Service. Had to learn how to be independent, live, sleep, eat with people of different background, culture and race. Had to be regimental, disciplined and always alert, lest I or my section mates get hurt. Rain, shine, hot and humid; learn to lead, set an example when I became a leader, and be encouraging even when I couldn't take the hardship. And mine was 2.5 years. One of the best years of my life!

    Different from my time in NS - this one is a combo of Platoon Harbouring n Defence. I remembered my Platoon harbouring - we ran platoon attack/retreat formation, ambush, squad terrain crossings. But our defence dig in starts at 9pm n must completed by 5am b4 sunrise ~ 2 guys to do a foxhole n 2 shell scrapes. After completion, attack overrun n retreat scenarios. Poor me, bloody 60mm motar carrier as well as heavy barrel AR15; b4 M203 grenade launcher.
    Combat ration were bad - “dog” biscuits ~ so hard that if u throw a spin and hit your forehead, sure to bruise,butter cookies~ 100% constipation.

      We had to back sling during shellscrape digging because field camp still need to maintain weapon discipline.
      There's no way we would have been allowed to leave our rifles by the side UNATTENDED without any rifle stunning or any form of punishment at all.
      Shame that these things have diluted over the years.

    • @mayuboeb
      @mayuboeb 2 года назад

      @@lychvy8023 I disagree eh. I feel like I would react faster grabbing my rifle at the side then slinging my rifle forward, adjusting the sling.. not to mention it always gets caught in your toggle rope/ canteen/ arc of fire ... And if the rifle gets in the way of your digging, and makes it longer to dig, I would even argue it's safer to dig faster with your rifle at the side so you can take cover faster
