I would recommend hunting in the woodlands and you have much more cover, plus if a hunt goes awry and is ruined by other predators you have a lot more chances of escape, the only disadvantage is prey usually doesn’t go there so you will be forced into a diet of birds and whatever carnivores are small enough to kill (and hares on the cliff if desperate)

Damn why no one makes herds in this game anymore, its literally almost impossible to survive as a small carnivore now.
