I am so glad you put this on here so I might brace myself for some unkind statements also. I am 72 yo female dealing with hearing disability for 30 years now . I was RN for 40 years and had to retire as I could no longer hear alarms on medical equipment or be certain I would get verbal orders correct from the doctors. Am retired now and Medicare will help me with expenses for this. After paying for 3 sets of hearing aides over the years this is a blessing! But I never imagined this would offend someone as much as it seems to have offended this person! This is a personal choice and I am excited about it as you are! This is almost like adult bullying! Don’t let this persons opinion bother you. Some day he may wish he had one too! Oh, and good luck with your surgery! Linda

As I learnt that it takes a brave or courageous person to go through this journey. So yes it boils down to the needs around us. Saying, "f**** stupid surgery" is for someone who has a very narrow mindset or horse vision and not recognizing one day when that person grows older over 70 or 80 would definitely regret saying those nasty phrases and quietly reconsider the impact that cochlear implant does bring tremendous amount of positive outcomes.

I find out in March if I am a good candidate for a cochlear implant. My hearing is worsening each day. I praise you for posting your story and the information that you have share. Thank you.

    HI Brian.
    Hope you are doing alright.
Just a quick update on my CI progress. Was remapped on Friday and what a difference. Audiologist worked over an hour to "fine tune" my processors prior leaving for Israel on Saturday the 31st. She even tested for any residual hearing which I have in the lower tones. She ended up lessening the high tones and increasing some of the low tones. I can actually do 1-1 face to face conversations if they are not soft spoken. But if there is background noise....just noise. I know this will improve in time as I do rehab and really work at it. I am not very good when it comes to patience. But I am learning during this journey.
    Have a great day! Mickey

There is nothing stupid about the surgery. You did whats good for you. I'm researching an implant as I have 2 hearing aids and I just cannot hear speech well at all.

I concur with you. So if someone said, "f**** stupid surgery" then years later into old age would that person say this again and then beg to re evaluate?
