How was the result? I can't imagine you'd get enough light with that tiny is tiny objective lens. Even with my regular lens wide open F 1.8 sometimes there's not enough light
Dear Sam, thank you so much for this video! I want to make this to connect my old Leica R to a microscope! Could you give me any advice at all where to get the parts that I cannot get in a hardware store? Like the microscope optical mount? Or even a place that sells the optical by itself?! Thank you so much!
Right ! I use PVC for a lot of things and the spade bits "are" aggressive. Were I to make that mount - and its likely I will - I would fasten the PVC fitting in a vise and drill gently. I'd drill part way from one side - then drill from the other side until the hole was complete. That way edges on each side of the fitting would be smooth. I looked for the mount you put directly on the PVC fitting, but haven't yet found a source. Surplus Shed doesn't list it. Maybe I can find a tap at the auto supply store. The beauty of spade bits is they are very easy to customize their diameter by filing equal amounts from each side of the bit. I've been researching and playing with lenses. I major on macro so that's why I appreciate your work so much. I know how hard it is to obtain and maintain focus. You're doing very interesting work. Your shots dropping different colors into the liquid are mesmerizing. Thanks for the videos and for the microscope mount explanation.
Thank you for the information. I could also contact Surplus Shed inquiring about the threading. Their website says the threads are 20.2mm and its reasonable they are standard threads. I'll follow the 2 links you included to see what I can find. it will be much better on all counts to buy something ready made. That way I can use multiple scope lenses with ease. Whether the web series your own production or a contract it sounds interesting.

hy i'am from indonesia. i want ask you. what microscope (objective) lens do you use?
Optical is not a noun, what you are referring to is an objective lens.
with smaller sensor cameras, the pvc pipe must be longer?
Is this an infinity adjusted objective?
(Afaik they are called objective not optical but I'm new to this)
Very nice, thank you.
Great.no bs...
Try a paddle bit - AKA Spade Bit
Right !
