I'm not usually into most "boy bands", but BSB is the one exception. All five of them have great voices, and there's only a handful of songs or so that I don't care for. Most of them are just stellar, and I'm glad to have their CDs in my collection.
You're not wrong : it's a "westlife" song, as the beginning sounds almost as generic as Westlife songs tend to be. But as soon as AJ starts his verse and Brian gets on the adlibs, now we are back on Backstreet mode. And it's divine all the way to the end.
What always made them stand out to me was exactly what you said about their voices. You can hear each of them individually and fans can recognize their different singing styles. Further to that, I was drawn to give them a listen because of AJ specifically. (I was a teen in the early 90s so I was all about grunge and alternative music). No other boy band had a voice like AJ. Even tho Brian and Nick had the typical boy band vibe, AJ brought (and stills brings) a unique sound that, in my opinion, made them stand out in the crowd.
Yes, they all have great voices, but what makes them stand out from all the rest is their ability to place all 5 voices in the parts of the song where all 5 can shine on their own, thus making the overall presentation extra spec and unmatchable.

Only backstreetboys I might say that each and everyone of them got a line in each of thier song...Each of them have thier time to shine unlike othergroup some of the members some kind of a back up. Yes 5differrent voices but it blended very good when they sing on thechorus, its like magic thier harmony is so amazing....Thats why they are my ulitimate boyband I will be a Backstreetboys fans for as long as I live...KTbsPA forever...

Which is why Westlife is bigger amongst Moms, BSB does have some Moms following. But most of their fanbase are teens. I think it's because of the music production. I’m a big fan of these guys and this song brings back so many memories from the 00’s 😂. They may remind you of Westlife because of the whole boyband thing and because this particular song is more of a ballad. BSB usually tend to do more uptempo songs and the whole choreography thing, while Westlife (although they do have some great uptempo songs) ace the ballads. I personally prefer and think higher of WL’s vocals but the BSB are incredibly talented and have great voices as well. I used to love Brian’s voice; unfortunately, he’s had some vocal issues and lost it but I think that Nick and AJ have amazing voices. pretty much all bsb members could sing a full song and make it sounds good - not sure westlife can do it that good - mark and shane are AMAZING - shane has probably one of the best voice i heard live and it seems so easy to hit high notes - but bsb are #1 for a reason

It's an original song by the boys it's not a bloody westlife song ffs SMFH that's an insult because BSB have been around for 29yrs & they write all their own material which separates them from any other male vocal group... The song came out in 2001.. (I'm a huge BSB fan)

I simply said it sounds like a Westlife song, I don't know who was around first and the fact that I'd heard some Westlife songs before BSB songs puts them in that order of listening for me, ( another reason why I said that I didn't wanna offend anyone )

For example, in their DNA album there was not a single song written or even co-written by the guys. And in other albums there may be some songs co-written by them but most are written by others. This song wasn’t even written by them. There’s nothing wrong though, most pop bands do that 🤷♀️
