Loved this - it's real. It's so en vogue to talk about decluttering so it's interesting to hear about those who made to the other side and it didn't solve all their problems. As a person with a wardrobe I'm 99% happy with I got a few tricks that I'm using: 1. shop your closet by enjoying the pieces you have and remembering why you bought them going back to the time you were super excited about them. 2. sell things you truly have no use for: i.e. they don't fit, you have something else you prefer so similar it's redundant etc. 3. be very discerning about what you add in, be intentional (do I really want this and why) rational (does it work with what I have already or do I need to buy other things to make it work, is it easily affordable and worth the expense) and no impulse buys. 4. no more SLGs under any circumstances (you probably have enough, it's a pain to transfer all your things to the point you hardly ever do it, and they do not add to any outfit). Good luck everybody!

My decluttering was 10 years ago, intentional, spread over 3 years, no regrets. Now I add 2-3 pieces a year to my wardrobe and it is shrinking naturally (because more items are wearing off).

Thanks for sharing, we naturally dislike contradicting ourselves, so it takes some bravery to come back on things said on YT. Perhaps you took it further than you would have liked, but you did it for a good reason and I hope it still brought you something. Because I've never really needed the space or funds, I just sell items I don't use and that has left me with no regrets. 🙂

I also moved several years ago and let go of a lot of things. I can relate since I'm still dealing with some bad decisions I made in that process. I can't repurchase many of the things since they were mostly vintage and one of a kind. I have struggled with being mad at myself for not thinking things through more. What I did to make amends is to purchase an amazing vintage bag from a luxury brand that I never had before. When I carry it feels so nice to imagine where it came from and the previous life it had before it found its way to me, which my old beautiful things are also experiencing.

Thank you for sharing, Thor. This topic is actually rather triggering for me. Sometimes I do wish to Declutter my handbags, but I’m always so concerned that I will regret it. I do tend to hold onto my bags for a very long time and only sell them Once I really feel like they are a burden to me and just taking out space in my closet. So far, no regrets when I take that approach.❤

I totally understand how you feel. I went through some remorse after selling (usually for a fraction of what I paid) or gifting items so now I won't let go of things. Fashion is also cyclical so things come back in style. The main thing is I am much more choosy about what I add to avoid future regret, but once I have them, I try to use the items or at least know I will in the future. For example, I almost sold my Chanel ML Classic flap in tweed because I rarely use it, but when I do pull it out once or twice a year I'm glad I never did.

I sold about 75% of my collection for the same reasons you did. While I don’t regret selling most of the things I sold, I have found myself replacing a few of the items with different versions that I know I will use. I would say just make very purposeful purchases going forward or buy less expensive pieces.

Thank you for your honesty and reflection Thor. I do regret letting go of my YSL crossbody bag. I parted with it to get a CL tote which ended up not working out. I should have really reflected on what works for my lifestyle which are shoulder bags and crossbody bags. Now YSL prices have increased so I won't be getting one any time soon. I think ultimately bringing in less things and being more selective of the items I bring in going forward is the way to go.

I can relate! I’ve sold a few bags for great reasons and don’t regret those decisions but I sold my Chanel woc impulsively in 2023 and regretted it and missed that bag so much. I bit the bullet and just repurchased it last week. I don’t feel too badly about it bc I repurchased it in a different more fun colour, and it’s new with the magnetic closure. But it def taught me to think twice before selling. Being reunited with the woc was like meeting a new friend again, haha! Can you look to the preloved market to see if you can repurchase any of the items you sold?

    • @anthorpology
      @anthorpology  9 месяцев назад +1

Thank you for watching and sharing 🩵 I’ve done a bit of light browsing to see what’s out there, I may repurchase the Nano Luggage in the Souris colour, as it’s more wearable and I’ve always love the colour way, so we will see what happens but the current price point is a bit much in my opinion, so preloved may be the way to go if I can get a good price and good condition!

Well said. I once sold a Chanel bag i regretted so much afterwards. Now i ask myself 2 questions before i sell. 1. What happens if i regret later and can i deal with that? 2. Is it easily replaceable at a reasonable price? Also, i suggest a cool down period. Set aside the stuff you want to sell for while (months or more) and revisit your decision.

    Hi Thor,
    Long time no see!
I was a bit surprised to see your thumb nail. Maybe you should deep dive and do a further analysis within yourself and write a journal when & why you felt that way.
For Celine bags, I used to own myself and I do get how the resell values is extremely low, unless you sell it during it is highly sought.
I had a Horizontal Cavas bag (in black). I sold it because though it was light weighted and the leather was so soft and comfortable, the bag does not stand by itself and if you put it on the floor, you could basically see everything inside, no zipper closure so you might loose your valuables (keys and wallet) and I thought, a Longchamp would be much better choice.
I was only able to recoup a little bit less than half for what I’ve paid, (I only used it less than 20 times).
Sometimes, I have sellers’ remorse like, if I am called for this occasion, I wanted to carry my Cavas, but I also know that when I was called for that certain occasion when I actually owned the bag, I never used it because of the reasons I decided to sell.
Also, you kept some of your Celine bags. Are you using those?
I think your primary reason that you decided to part with your bags was because they were not serving you and you needed to be extra cautious when carrying not to damage it, and you kind of got tired of that.
If you still owned them, do you think your feeling about using them had changed?
I also used to own a Celine luggage as well (mine was Mini size. It is called Mini, but actually quite big, it fits A4 size document vertically and is a top handle bag. No straps.) The bag had structure and plenty of room but because it was top handle only, I needed to either handhold or carry it on the crook of my arm and I ended up having bruises. I also sold this bag, and I learned that going forward, I am going to buy a bag that has a shoulder strap because I cannot deal with top handle bags, it just drives me crazy.
If you really want those bags back, I think you can hunt them down in pre-loved market, but I think you should focus more on the bags that you decided to keep and use those instead!
(I think a youtuber called Jessie’s style, she constantly sells and buys bags and repurchased some of the bags she sold, but in the end always end up re-selling the repurchased bags. She always comments how much she loves her bags and most of the time ends up selling. I am sure there are some people out there who were influenced by her and bought the same bag as her because she raved so much about it. And then, one day, out of the blue she sells them to fund another bag. Lol)

Wow thank you for watching and sharing 🩵🩵🩵 so many good points you made. Honestly I don’t use the other celine bags I have, I feel like I have moved away from some of the more feminine styles and am dressing more masculine now which doesn’t lend itself to the bags. And you’re right I should just focus on what I have as I’ve already basically filled my collection back up again! It’s important to know what type of product works for you and the nano luggage was honestly too small, the zipper was finicky and the colour (while beautiful) gave me anxiety! Great call out about Jessiestyles too I’ve seen her go through the roller coaster and I have no plans to get on the ride!

Hi Thor, just discovered you randomly, how nice to have found you! Thank you for sharing your experience, your thoughts and emotions, I completely understand how you feel! I can relate to everything you said so much that I would like to share my little journey with decluttering too!
I also sold so much, because I felt the pressure to declutter, I also sold my beloved Celine nano even though I was using it every day! what a mistake! I sold several bags because I felt the pressure to live my "real" life and not my "fantasy" life, where maybe... I should have actually created more opportunities to wear my special bags or pieces since they felt so special and wonderful to me! So yeah, many regrets here as well...
Also because we don't get what we paid for, and at the end we spend that acquired money on less special things, it is truly just too much hassle.
Like you say, being much more selective, more intentional, and putting more thought into our choices, this is truly key... not rush into silly decisions because maybe we feel pressure!
Thank you for sharing, it's wonderful to connect! Take care of yourself!!

@@anthorpology yeah, but honestly tho, we all make mistakes and we will learn from it. I am an all or nothing type of person, so I either go from a striving minimalism and frugality to a bit of maximalist who bought 7 hand bags in 2 months (yes I did - it’s like a revenge spending). But i am an experimenter, I like to test the extremes because I then will learn what’s it’s like being in either side of the equation. So you might call it a calculated mistake?
