  • Commercial breaks taken from an episode of "Who's the Boss?" and a special local presentation of "Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii" on RKO General-owned ABC affiliate (now Cox-owned Fox affiliate) WHBQ in Memphis, Tennessee.
WHBQ was still under RKO General ownership at the time, eventually being sold off to Adams Communications in 1990. Adams then sold the station in 1994 to Comcorp, who then promptly spun it off to Fox, reportedly in preparation for a Memphis NFC franchise. The football team never materialized (the AFC Oilers moved to Tennessee in 1997 with a two-year pitstop in Memphis while their stadium in Nashville was being built,) and in 2014, Fox traded WHBQ and WFXT in Boston to Cox Media in exchange for KTVU and KICU in San Francisco.

Interesting to see how drastically different life was the year I was born. Can we build a time machine already?! Life's getting scary AF in 2021.

Alden, in the 1980s, do you think that Channel 13 had a better graphics, news set, and on air presentation than Channel 5?

That Sable commercial is the one where Bette Midler sued, and won, for using a sound alike. Honestly, I don't think it sounds like her.
