What we need is better buses and subways. Then we wouldn’t need so many cars and taxis. I think limiting it to 2 passengers is a mistake. The factory for it is built, the showcase city and the country are fully in it. Its not the car, its not legal restrictions, those things won't run high speed on high ways its the business case behind it. Rimac, will again use this as a show case and make money with the tech behind it.
Bugatti has just as much experience with building cars at large scale as the next startup. Even with big investors backing (Lucid/Nio/etc) them up almost none of them end up mass producing cars.
To build a robotaxi vehicle and ecosystem without concentrating on the actual "self driving" aspect suggests to me that the autonomous system may well be licensed from someone who has solved the problem. Even Waymo and Cruise might be good enough by the time Verne becomes available. It's great to see such a well respected company enter this arena.
It really is the elephant in the room and quite disappointing that they didn't press the issue. That said, what they are doing here really seems to be asking for Waymo to license their software stack, which might in fact not be a bad bet given how Google (Android, etc) have operated in the past. Conversely, they might be trying to sell the physical cars to Waymo itself, which has seemingly given up on developing its own car in favor of partnerships (Jaguar i-Pace being the current test bed of choice). Rimac really made its name as a supplier to others so the fact that there could be a lot more to this iceberg than we can see makes a lot of sense, especially if they are deep in talks.
The autonomous driving is done by Mobileye. Rimac Technology does, as far as I know, all of their infotainments, applications and software on the Controller Area Network (CAN) level themselves, so it will likely be the case with Verne as well.
@@YourD3estinY Good catch. Another big OEM provider, although I wonder how their full autonomy software will stack up to Waymo. There is a big difference between driver assistance and full autonomy and they seem pretty untested on the latter.

Its a nice car but no one have a full autonomus car. Just needed this to say, that means autonomy level 5 and no one had that at this point, so why do you say its fully autonomu?s
The car design is fine, my question is they have no real world driving data??? Because of that, I assume it will operate within a tight tolerance of where you can go. It’s good to see others trying but I think the march of 9’s will make it difficult for them once operating as others are finding out. Tesla’s general AI solution I think will win in the end.

@@BranislavB-hx9zy Tesla has NVIDIA chips though and over 6 million vehicles collecting real world data which is required for it to work in the first place. After this you'll need approximately $250B in order to build those vehicles and lots of human workers & automation. After this you'll need to find +6m people willing to buy those vehicles and hope you can sell them at a profit. After this you'll need them to actively drive around (more than Tesla) in order to catch up to their amount of data. After this you'll need to be able to process the data faster than Tesla & actually take advantage of that data correctly and so on. Nobody is catching up, it's game over.

Don't underestimate Mate Rimac. Also, don't overestimate Elon and his many failed ideas like the Hyperloop, Boring Company, stainless steel rocket and pointless 44 Bn$ acquisition of Twitter ;-)
"Why will this suceed where other have stalled?" - user experience! I'm fairly sure the question was supposed to be about level 5 autonomy... but no worries.
I love this design. But the hard part is actually getting a car to drive itself, which, no one has achieved yet. Tesla is nearly there, but that took 6m vehicles worth of driving data , mutli billions and 10 years.
The Teslae are reasonable at it, but having tried full self drive a few times in a friends Model 3 last month, it's not ready for prime time. As a take-over for a long trip on the freeway or interstate - likely. Navigating a busy downtown or dealing with roundabouts, terrifying.
Achieving it is not the only issue. In the US public transportation is only so popular and there are plenty of options already. I just don't see more people using public transportation just because there is no driver. It's still shared with others and it's not waiting for you to make a quick get away when needed. Our use of cars is not just pre planned trips from one location to another. Sometimes we just "go for a drive", we see what's new and stop anytime we see something interesting. There have been many estimates about how much the market is worth and I don't think any of them are close to reality and might even be based on getting 100% of the market with no competition. There is no way to make back the money spent on these things.
@frankcoffey Robotaxis will be on par with public transport costs, but you now also have your own space, no need to wait in long queues for trains/busses etc. You can relax, stretch out, watch a movie/do work etc. That's a huge value add for the consumer
@@louisdude1 I still don't think that's new customers. It's just a slice of the pie of people that will consider public transportation at all. We shall see what that's worth but I think it's going to be a tiny fraction of what has been estimated.
Gorgeous interior , external , not so pretty. Big wide screen is class. Now that robotaxi released, can compare. Some major differences between the two. Will be fascinating to see which is used the most. Loving the external robotaxi.
The car is good but the need for very expensive hardware (Lidar) makes it not scalable and I'm assuming they will need to map the roads for it to drive on so it is ringfenced like Waymo.
This is what I'm waiting for. I don't like dealing with other drivers. No more insurance, maintenance, etc. That would save thousands of dollars each year. I like looking for new ways to cut my expenses down.
I prefer spending the money in technology rather than marketing. Rimac doesn't even have a working software for autonomy. And you can't have better advertisement for free than shared customer experiences like this here: FSD 13 in Manhattan rush hour ruclips.net/video/gkQnfoQURCY/видео.html. But to achieve this, you must have a working product and not just a prototype. It's blabla vs. delivering.
Need to make it so the whole interior is quick and easy to replace. So if a seat gets puked on u can just quickly pull it out and throw a new one in while the damaged seat can get deep cleaned. The same with interior panels.
I think it's cool to see a thought exercise like this into the eventual autonomous ride hailing future. But it's a pretty hollow unveiling when people understand that the driving software isn't mature yet (at any company)
Why are designers still obsessed with a vehicle still looking like a traditional car, there is absolutely no need for that if a passenger wants to feel cutting edge. The Amazon Zoox is a great design direction IMO.
Not making larger ones seems like a mistake. having to pay 2 or 3 taxis when you could go with one will get expensive fast. They don't have make a lot of them, just a few per fleet is enough.
This company currently manufactures 150 units per year. Not sure if they’ll even be able to scale an AV, especially an electric AV. Anyone can build a few very expensive cars, but not many can scale these at an affordable price. I say if they can scale these at 20-30k each, then they may have a shot, but something tells me the LiDAR is going to be very expensive haha
What about getting out in emergency? What about stopping the car if my handset's display breaks when I am inside? Is there a button inside which I can press to open both the doors? It should also have turn indicators, for human driver and wipers too, because even though it can drive through the rain autonomously, people sitting inside should be able to see outside when it's raining. How about throwing some HDR Capable OLED Screens in there, with some Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision?
@@mateo8090 Oh, I guess I didn't see anything then 🤣. Plus ummmm yes, Atmos is good. But they should go for DoVi also. Great if they've done that too. I don't think that display's OLED though. MiniLED would also be sufficient, especially with blackened glasses all around.
They say in Video which company developed autonomous driving software and there are videos of those cars driving without driver. Only thing Rimac did different is they removed the fron seats and the wheel. They did not make New software.

As a citizen of Croatia, I would most sincerely like the success of this project. Mate Rimac could be in the rank of Nikola Tesla, but I personally doubt that this story will take a completely different course. Many times richer, more technologically advanced countries have spent billions of dollars, they do not show the final solutions of autonomous vehicles. When analyze the current level of development of cameras and sensors for detection and it is impossible for AI to make 100% correct decisions in real conditions of vehicle use. It is nice to dream, but the current state of technology and electronics has limits that limit autonomous application. The time ahead will prove that .With this promotion of its autonomous vehicle, Rimac only wanted to justify the invested funds from shareholders and the EU. The years ahead will tell if I'm wrong.!!!

This is the biggest thing since the horse gave way to the car. I'm a Tesla shareholder and I find this super exciting [yes, I know this will be a rival]. Tesla will have to go some with its Robotaxi to be this good. This has been properly thought out. I'm assuming the automotive driving technology will succeed, because given enough time, realistic goals usually are, and FSD isn't pie-in-the-sky, despite what people with little imagination and knowledge might say. Yes, I'll hail one of these around about the time I either buy my next BEV or I keep the cash.
so more buses in cities? why not a small car that can be parked away until needed? instead of buses doing routes all day long and having people having to walk from every destination. why can't someone just have their own taxi so to speak? i think it's a much better idea than a bus. smaller vehicle, don't have a bus with 3 or 4 people inside waiting around until their stop.

@@JohnSmith-pn2vlinclude tesla in the clown section (like a joke, but not funny)

Yes they will map the area of some large city and taxi will drive only in that area
Rimac collaborates with Alphabet (Google) which has the third largest AI capacity in the US, Tesla's Dojo is not even on the top 10 list in the US, no need to worry.
Tesla doesn't have AGI you know that right?
@@BranislavB-hx9zy Tesla has NVIDIA chips though and over 6 million vehicles collecting real world data which is required for it to work in the first place.
In order to catch up you'll need to build more factories than Tesla and at bare minimum be equally efficient in each factory at producing vehicles and on top of that you'll need the capital and expertise for those factories.

Tesla isn't even close. Waymo is MUCH closer, they seem to still fall victim to occasional edge-cases. FSD is a con, full-stop.
Loving the external robotaxi.
looks like a 4th year design student assignment
The car is good but the need for very expensive hardware (Lidar) makes it not scalable and I'm assuming they will need to map the roads for it to drive on so it is ringfenced like Waymo.
This is what I'm waiting for. I don't like dealing with other drivers. No more insurance, maintenance, etc. That would save thousands of dollars each year. I like looking for new ways to cut my expenses down.
Bravo, man!
It looks very clean and cute in a way. The service looks promising. I would reconsider the 'no wipers' decision though.
This is the level of detail & presentation Tesla should have given about their autonomous cars.
