I am not british, not even english spoken as first language. I am from south america and would like to tell you all British people: How proud you should be. You are all an example of what we all as human kind wish to be. LOVE BRITANIA!
this song to me is what Britain is, it's what made Britain great and what makes it, to this day, still a real power in the world. we embrace the strengths of those who join us, we don't segregate, yes we made mistakes but in the end we accept. i am proud to my very being to be a Brit because despite all the mistakes, we endure, we persist and we are stronger for all the different peoples that make Britain great
What a magnificent night to be part of. I learnt this Anthem 75 years ago when I was in the Australian boys choir. I will never forget that great night when we sung it at the Hobart Town Hall Hobart, Tasmania.
I am Canadian but I get chocked up hearing this tune.It reminds me of a Lancaster Bomber badly damaged struggling to reach home base and the crew singing this.
I am proud to be British!! Even though I now live State-Side with my three younglings and my Husband, I always watch Last Night of the Proms and this song along with Rule Britannia gets me every time - makes tears come to my eyes because it is such a rousing and touching set of music - quintessential Britain. Long Live the Queen!!
What a beautiful to celebrate life. Being an American, it so nice to see other being so patriotic as well. God Bless you all in the upcoming Holidays! Thank you for sharing this video.
This video as well as other videos, of Patriotic songs, medleys, whether it be of the UK, Canada, or whomever including my own country, the USA, I love classical music if it has a strong patriotic value, it's something to stir the blood, God Bless all!
I'm an American too, and like you I admire friends who celebrate their own countries, same as American patriots celebrate ours. Seeing the audience, whether Royal Albert Hall or in the parks, singing "Land of Hope & Glory" and "Rule Britannia" was moving. I also liked how how the Brits shared our respect for other nations' nationalism. While most of the flags being waved were of course British, all the foreign visitors waving their own flags (USA, Brazil, Japan, Lebanon, multiple European, etc. etc.) were welcomed as part of the Brits' celebration of patriotism. Even before the NFL's spoiled millionaire brats got into the issue ( #ProtestOnYourOwnTime ), I disliked the trend of celebrity soloists singing our national anthem while the crowd shuts up, instead of just the band (or recording) playing while the crowd sings the anthem. The Brits' Last Night of the Proms understands the audience singing the patriotic lyrics is essential; I wish American corporations (like NFL) arranging our own National Anthem performances would embrace that reality.
I love Britain although I am german. But there is nothing better than the Queen, roast beef, yorkshire pud., emmerdale, corry etc. Keep on you Brits, stay the way you are and keep your wonderful traditions and of course the Pound...... and keep driving left! Looking foreward to coming back to my 2nd Home Britian in September.... God save the Queen
God I loved it when my dad played his last night of the proms cassette and this came on. Me and my sister went absolutely mental in the back of the car when this came on. Proud to be British but prouder that everyone from different nations come together ❤️
It's like they have every form of instrument in the orchestra. Got addicted to this classic piece from the Diamond Jubilee concert. Lord save the Queen.
Everyone sings in unison from bottom of their heart, louder and loudely! Quite impressive, so filled my mind with jubilation and tears! We say like i-fuu-dou-dou for the meaning of "the land of hope and groly". only for short moment I could forget my real life, thank you!
I love Last Night of the Proms. I've always wanted to be there live. It must be a wonderful experience. I've sung in the Albert Hall 3 times (2 Messiahs and a Verdi Requiem) and it was just out of this world.
While in Grad school, I was invited to a week of these fantastic concerts. Thrilling, humorous, and exciting. The audience always jumped right in at the slightest provocation. So much for the "aloof British". I met none of those.
@1163Kurt Love you for that Kurt, I have loved everything British since I was so young even though I was born in Cuba, I feel something rather deep for the UK and America my adopted home. God bless them all.
What a shame that we are no longer a part of the British commonwealth. I hope that one day Great Britain can take us back just like what it did in Falkland. (though not possible for now) Greeting from Hong Kong.
At last I learned those lyrics! So "...wider and wider..." smacks of imperialism. Every bright side of the Sun has its dark side of the Moon. I can't help seeing the glory of the Spitfires downing all the Emiles, H-111's, and Stukas on that 15th day of September 40 when I hear this music. The Union Jack and its anointed RAF stood ALONE for civilization against a barbarous world. Rest in peace Sir Winston! Thank you Sir Edward for this unforgettable music. And it's a French frog saying all this!
except that it reminds me of graduations I attended, the words are most magnificent - may each of our homelands be a land of hope and glory! oh yeah, I am one of the "cousins" from across the pond ;-)
As an American, I still regard The United Kingdom as my mother country... because there would be no United States if there had not been first a British Empire.
you miss the whole point of what it is to be British,we embrace ALL cultures, all races and creeds, and I for one,am extremely proud of that trait in the only truly free country in the world.
A great rendition of this great British Anthem and hymn. Bless the Commonwealth and the British Empire. May they become great as they once were. Keep their jobs in Britain instead of giving them all off to Asian nations. like Australia now...You have to spot the workers.
God bless Britain RIP Macho Man Randy Savage Happy Graduation (assuming you live in the US, Philippines or South Korea where they actually have high school graduation ceremonies)
There's really nothing better than a good-old, tub-thumping, sabre-ratting, bit of jingoistic British Pride. We only really do it once a year, there rest of the time is devoted to moaning about the weather. God save the Queen.
It's always surprising -but nice, to see so many other national flags waving during this so-British Anthem--even German one's.BUT ! THE EU RAG IS VERBOTEN !!
We Brits and commonwealth should unite together, we should leave the American government to their tyranny and be stronger as one nation of brothers and sisters of the anglo-saxon and celtic bloodlines
Well, excuse me, as an American educated in England, but who do you think the majority of Americans are? We should be holding together more than ever, in these unsettled times, against those who use our resources and refuse to assimilate into our culture. Some rules have to change to preserve us all.
I was in the crowd that night next to my older sister. I did start singing but she nudged me and told me that the first time is hummed then once the conductor faced outwards thats when we sing properly. I didn’t know, as it was my first time attending Last Night Of The Proms.
I revere the British people for what they have given the world. I only hope they decide to reclaim their own heritage and their own country from those who have no intent of preserving them.
This time in a week my wife and myself will be flying off to England for proms in the park, we can't wait. By the way is it me or does the woman at (2mins & 36 seconds) open her mouth and make a strange squeaking noise.
It is my life goal to rise to head of the RFU so I can make this England's anthem at rugby matches. So much more powerful than the bore-off that is God Save the Queen.
You forgot to mention British collusion in ' extraordinary rendition', the illegal war on Iraq, the irrational and ruinous war in Afghanistan, and the most expensive railway system in the world...other than that, spot on. Believe me, you're not entirely alone...Keep up the good work!
Correction: Pomp and Circumstance* (not plural). I don't care who my statement angers, what was done to Elgar's composition is akin to making another Brit Tradition by taking Mozart's "Symphony # 25 in G minor", and turning in to a Public House drinking anthem.
@Artegalatus This is 100% for sure the Last Night 2011, you can tell because a. you have Edward Gardner composing and b. at 6:45, him telling the crowd they're not being loud enough haha.
I am not british, not even english spoken as first language. I am from south america and would like to tell you all British people: How proud you should be.
You are all an example of what we all as human kind wish to be.

I'm of Pakistani descent - 16 years old. Lived in London all my life. I have to say I bloody love the UK. The BBC Proms is a great event!
I am never prouder to be a brit than when i see the flags of all nations singing our patriotic music peacefully and in one voice.
I am proud to be British!! i live in great malvern where elgar walked the hills and that gave him the inspiration to create his music. his birthplace is not far from me.

Watching the "Last Night of the Proms" makes me feel so... patriotic, I'm an American but I stand in solidarity with my English cousins.
Wonderful.
I admire the britans to have so many wonderful symphonies.
Proud to see my flag being waved at 6:00 twice

National anthems can have a bellicose tone, this one does not, these are just joyful people proud of their country.

The music is excellent though shiramvenu. Very appropriate to finish this wonderful week-end celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Make this our NATIONAL ANTHEM ! !
God Bless the U.K. - including Scotland. Hang together or hang apart.
Could not agree more with you, we will see soon enough if we are together in the following months.
And Wales too.

SCARRIOR Yes, but people tend to forget, don't they.
Pleased to see an audience who knows the correct time to sing!
I was in the crowd that night next to my older sister. I did start singing but she nudged me and told me that the first time is hummed then once the conductor faced outwards thats when we sing properly. I didn’t know, as it was my first time attending Last Night Of The Proms.
land of hope and bloody glory....great..............
this video was made 1 day before my birthday september 13
I revere the British people for what they have given the world. I only hope they decide to reclaim their own heritage and their own country from those who have no intent of preserving them.

That crowd is on fire! I’ve seen stadium rock concerts with less passion! Incredible.

OMG ...
Only the New Territories (mostly rural area) part was borrowed. Hong Kong Island and Kowloon (economic core area) were permanently ceded to Britain.
erm..... 2:35 ....is that women making that sound!!!!????? Btw, love this piece!
5:02 It is the same lyrics as before, but now it is in D Major (2 ♯s) instead of G Major (1 ♯).
If you look closer there are a hell of lot more US flags For us it's like having the family home for Christmas
This should be the fuckin national anthem!
Don't worry yourself Mark...they're just the tokens of some of the unruly souls we've subdued down the years!
You forgot to mention British collusion in ' extraordinary rendition', the illegal war on Iraq, the irrational and ruinous war in Afghanistan, and the most expensive railway system in the world...other than that, spot on. Believe me, you're not entirely alone...Keep up the good work!
Also, Queen Elizabeth II passed away exactly three months ago as of this writing (9/8/2022).
Canada and Britain have a bit of a tighter bond than you Americans think you have.
That's the stomping sound.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. When is PROMS-2016, which month?

yes
Proud to HAD BEEN British before forced to become Chinese in 1997.
