Thanks for the demo and great comparison! Pretty much all other demos on this a strictly Hendrix and blues type of stuff, which is cool, but not my thing for the most part. That said, I like the brightness and bias range/reliability of the Silicon, but when the Germanium hits a sweet spot (*chef's kiss*) the Silicon can't really match... at least not at the same settings.
Watch Jesse Davey’s video on the SI Fuzz. He uses this pedal to get a clean tone a la “ Life without You” and it’s spot on. Fuzz for a clean tone ? Yes indeed ! Check out his video. I stole his settings and I love that tone and use the SI fuzz for the SRV tone alone.
It’s almost negligible tbh. Especially in a mix. The Ge sounds a smidge gnarlier, but not an overpowering difference over the Si. Excellent comparison and this saved me time and money!!! :)
Does your Ge maintain its bias setting after periods of playing? Mine is very temperature sensitive and will only bias correctly at cold temperatures. At room temperature it doesn’t maintain bias well. Thanks!
I’m guessing the pedals don’t have much headroom as you have them both cranked volume wise? I know there is an internal dip switch for more volume, did you test this to see how much more by any chance?
I want to put a foot in the fuzz world ! I am a huge decades fan of boutique OD pedals but did never had a fuzz....Looks like Pro players use it perfectly and I am afraid to make marmalade with a fuzz ! And I love my US old Wahwah VOX ! Will it match with it ? Which one ( in small enclosure) would be great to strat with ? Thanks for answer and help..kind regards from France, Bélo
Super tough question to answer, haha. It's so subjective based on your preferences and what kind of sound you're going for. The best advice is always to just try a bunch and see if any of them make you happy in your rig!
Hi Fuzzfans, I must order one of these, I just have to...! I mainly play a Les Paul with PAFs so which one should I buy?Silicon or Germanium? Thanks for your help.
This is a prime example of how audio tests on RUclips can be really pointless. This audio is compressed to shit to where these pedals sound way more close than they do in real life, at least the two I own don’t sound this close, the si has a way different midrange from the ge. Still a great video, not at all a jab at your video or content. This was a very well done comparison.
Are these bright and brittle in person or are the pretty full ? Analogman man fuzzes I've had 3 and hated them all yet demos sounded ok. My mate @brandtones makes the best fuzz pedals I've heard do far. For me anyway.
@@kiesshauer ah nice one. Like I say I've spend money on 3 variations of analogman pedals and they just dont sound great. All they standard measures taken to give the fuzz the best possible chance of sounding good but no joy. If your interested check out Johnny sharp. @brantone he does a pedal called the meany and man its unreal!!! No stacking needed nothing needed at all just amazing!!
Ben Sutton out of interest - are you running a buffer (or buffered pedal) after your fuzzes which sound brittle/bright? Or even before them? Fuzz Face style fuzz circuits really don’t play nice with buffers so it might be worth checking that out - perhaps trying them completely on their own with no other pedals to see if you like how they sound, the going from there?
Ben Sutton are you running your amps already overdriven before you turn the fuzz on? And did you try using the volume control on the guitar to control the overall output of fuzz? I know when I first ran fuzz pedals ( outside of a Big Muff ) through a clean amp i was very disappointed with the tone. It wasn’t until I added amp gain that the pedals sounded the way they were supposed to. Clean amps and fuzz pedals do not equal good fuzz tone. Also, turning the tone knob down gave me a much better fuzz tone. I used to really love fuzz but now I’m much more into overdrive because a lot of fuzzes just aren’t musical enough but everyone seems to love King Tone and Analogman.
@@cowieson hi mate no first in line is my fuzz. I'm a massive lover of fuzz pedals and also understand different amps and guitars react differently. I've got a home made wanted together fuzz pedal cost £10 in bits and its unreal. I dont rate analogman fuzz pedals for the money as an example.
Thank YOU!!! I was looking for a comparison exactly like this one!!
Sounds like SI is the way to go.. less temperature sensitive And man what a GREAT sounding fuzz !!!
Spot on. I too was looking for this demo. Many thanks.
a lot more similar than different I think. love it.
03:03 that si fuzz is so gnarly 🫠

“Especially in a mix” is something a lot of people should remember. :)
Cute playing. Just bought the SI.

You definitely have the internal volume dip switch on the vintage headroom. My Mini hits unity gain around ‘60’ on the volume?
Pretty cool! Thank for the comparison 🤘
I hear more of the pick attack with the Si one over the Ge.. Maybe I’d go for it..
thank you for this! just what I need! I'll go with Ge
You’re welcome!
thanks! this is what i'm looking for!
Thanks!!

If you watch Jesse's original demo videos, he explains there is internal dipswitches one of which will boost the output beyond vintage levels.
The boost is quite significant- you get unity gain at around 50% volume
Thanks for the video !! I know now that I prefere the silicon version ! Thanks again
But which one did you keep?

Germanium
Did u try them with dc input? Any difference that with the battery?
I didn’t... would have been interesting though!
There is a built in battery simulator inside. Works really good.
Sounds nearly the same. SI seems the way to go for the reliability
Thank you!!!
You’re welcome!

They can be tough, yeah; but honestly through my rig live they sounded really similar too - could be something unique to my amps.
@@kiesshauer I can hear the difference and I like the GI better.

The internal dip switches really let you decide how much of the full bass response you want in it, which is pretty helpful

Germanium
Siliconium for me
Jesse is supposedly working on a hybrid. Hopefully switchable and blendable.
Woah cool
You just saved me 220 bucks. I will def stick with my Eisenhower/Fuzz Factory/Behringer Fuzz.
