    You asked us to leave comments here regarding our thoughts around dive tables, whether they are obsolete or not, or perhaps even whether they should be used or taught today.
    So many comments and things I want to share but I feel like the message would be more clear in video format, so stay tuned for a video coming soon on this. 🙂
    Thank you for sharing your experience with divers around the world.

      Hello guys! Thanks for reaching out, we would love to know your opinion! A lot of controversy on this topic and wow many many haters against the tables, that truly surprised me.... some Course Directors or IT from different organisations totally against teaching them even at Divemaster or Instructor levels.
      So would be great to know what do you think about it.
      At Azul we love your channel, and the work you do. Thanks for that!

      People should know at least the basics behind the computers, why they work that way and from were those numbers come from.

    I've missed you!
    Great reminder. I haven't used my EDRP since the AOW course 7 years ago; I must go and check I took the batteries out!
    But I personally found it useful to learn with dive tables because they did give me a feel for the numbers, what they should be and what effect a change in depth will have, before I do it. Otherwise NDL is just a number on a screen.

    • @AzulUnlimited
      @AzulUnlimited  3 года назад

      Hi!!
      I been super busy but back on RUclips! Tables is something that we always teach, at least the basics, not to everyone but as you said, then NDL is just a number and nobody understand from were they come from.

    I give eRDPml to all my open water students,(it is an app download now). Not sure why you say they are only used in the DM or instructors course I also bring out the old plastic RDP so they know what the letters represent. I talk about what the advantage is of using the dive computers. For my SDI students they learn on computers but I also explain the RDP so that they know what they are and a quick overview of how to use them. Nice job by the way.

      Thanks David! yeah on our DM courses and IDCs we teach the use of the RDP, they are the basics for understanding dive planing, decompression theory etc etc.

    If your dive computer stops working during a dive how do you gauge your depth and time down???

    • @AzulUnlimited

      You should have a back up. It can be a second computer or just an analog depth gauge and wrist watch

    I still carry my PADI RDP in my dive bag on every dive. I don’t always use it for detailed planning, but I love the graphical nature of it. It’s also useful on dives as a sanity check to anticipate when my ZOOP dive computer will clear the surface interval warning icon. One of the things I really hate about the ZOOP is it’s refusal to display a countdown for the calculated surface interval… It obviously knows the time remaining so why doesn’t it just show it? Arrrgh.

    • @AzulUnlimited

      Heh, it’s a basic computer. We can’t expect it to do everything😊

      @@AzulUnlimited LOL, to make myself clearer I’m talking about the really basic ‘computer’, the bit of plastic with the rows and columns on it not the eRDP!

    You always have to do the work. Relying on electronic devices could find yourself lost. Relying on dive computers is like sailing a boat Relying on a chart plotter and not having a chart or knowing how to use them

    They don’t even teach dive tables anymore. I learned with the tables and had to pass a test using the tables to see what diver you were. My wife and kids have no idea how to use them . I’ve tried to show them but they have no clue

    • @TheGweedMan
      @TheGweedMan 3 года назад

      What?

    • @AzulUnlimited
      @AzulUnlimited  3 года назад +1

      That's correct, tables are not part of the Open Water anymore, but we believe is important to know at least that they exist, because the diving computers are based on them, so a basic understanding of how to use them or why we dive the way we dive doesn't harm anyone.
      The more you know! hehe safe dives .

    • @TheMuhaAdventures
      @TheMuhaAdventures 3 года назад

      @@AzulUnlimited I agree and when we go diving I have the tables in my dive log and use them for our surface intervals

  • @TheGweedMan

    As a PADI Course Director for over 20 years wp with at least 100 new instructors recorded in less than 5 years I couldn't disagree more with your "reasons" and those of the commentors. I always dive with 2 computers off the same brand set at the same settings and the more conservative unit, if there is one, controlling the drive. I've taught hundreds of OW divers how to use and understand the tables at the mastery level. Now there are no valid reasons to teach the tables any longer unless, of course, you want to turn new divers of to the amazing underwater world. Let students have more fun!

    • @AzulUnlimited
      @AzulUnlimited  3 года назад +2

      I'm all for more fun. People don't need to be masters of them in the 3-4 days of doing the course but I think it's useful knowledge for the people who continue to dive and call themselves divers. Thanks for your input!
