Thanks for posting this video. Gleason is a legend. V65 Magna and V-Max bikes are fine machines.

Thanks Wendy. We sure had a great time that night & Jay rode the bikes like he'd never been away from it. First on Eleanor (Tim's bike) & then mine, he proved he's still the #1 drag race jockey! Thanks for last few seconds of Jay on my Bad Vmax. Sorry we didn't get more videos, but it was a historical evening for sure :)

Bad Max, thank you for contributing the video and pictures!! At least you got something, which is better than nothing. Wait till you see the whole video of Bradenton. It's on the new DVD, "Jay Gleason: Test Riding Legend" Vmax Collector's Edition shipping to Jay for signing tomorrow, 6/17!

Thank you! Yes, alot of people believe it's because of Jay's light body weight, but that actually works against him. He has had to develop a totally different riding style with every kind of motorcycle racing he has ever done because of his lack of weight. He has much more throttle control and reactive response than anyone.

Jay has a DVD available of his personal collection of video appearances from the mid-80s to early 90s. I compiled & edited all his old VHS's for him. The DVD was created due to public demand...you are welcome to get a copy, simply email me. They are 25 incl shipping for NTSC, 30 for PAL

Hi mysticmama, with this upload being over decade old, i just wanted to follow up in 2021 and see if you're still selling those DVD's? I've only recently heard and learned about Jay. Please let me know. Was very sad to hear that he passed away. RIP

30 years ago I ran my piped and jetted 87' V65 Magna at 9.8 at 140mph with less than $500 in parts. Stock it was 10.33 at 135. The Vmax is a beast at 145hp but the weight, shaft drive, and short wheelbase makes it a pig at the traps. Neat muscle bike, highly overated. Quickest bike in that era was the Kaw ZL1000 Eliminator, not many made, but that bike would clear 60mph under 3 seconds in 1st gear. Id know, I was a maniac and raced everything on the streets. Only two fast ricers at the time, 900 Ninja and 1000 Interceptor. Neither of those bikes would touch the 3 cruisers above. The V65 was way ahead of its time, had the braking and suspension to handle the speed, the Vmax did not and a few of the first riders lost their lives finding out the hard way.

The vid you speak of is Jon Cornell, of UFO Performance. This Vmax is not street legal, nor is he Tim's "new rider". Jon did his own tests on his very modified UFO Vmax. Tim edited the video, is all. I think Tim did an awesome job on the editing! Plus Tim is a huge fan of UFO Performance products for the VMax. Jon was NOT riding Tim's bike. Jon was riding his own bike and got it into the 8s. Tim's bike, Eleanor, is still the quickest & fastest street legal Vmax recorded, to date.

The bike is stock. Yes, exhaust was changed out, and I think a racing slick added. A little tuning by Gleason, and that was it!

Is this the same "Pee Wee" Gleason that was the first to get a production bike in the 10's??? If I remember, it was the Kawasaki GPZ 750 Turbo back in 1984.

tvguides Yep. He set the world production bike quarter mile record in (I'm pretty sure) 1985 with a gen 1 vmax.
