Best gig of my life. Skipped school, went into London, picked up a ticket off a tout, Degeneration rocked, Green Day were fucking awesome.

The Astoria had the best crowd control for gigs. I can remember them actually egging people on to crowd surf. One of the best gigs ever.
Yeah and they had that awesome black dude with dreads, (he's in this video) he was totally into it and super friendly talking to the crowd before the gig etc. He tragically died in a motorcycle accident. Kerrang actually ran a 2 page tribute to him

Awesome version of "Welcome To Paradise". HIGH ☝ N R G! I was lucky enough to see Green Day perform in front of a very large crowd at Cincinnati's Riverbend Music Center a couple of summers ago. Loud and raucous. The way we like it.

Pal and I took a day off and drove to London. Got a ticket off a lad whose pal pulled out and then told a tout to fuck off when he tried to outbid us on another ticket!!! £40 for 2 tickets and another outstanding Green Day gig!!!!

believe it or not, hes actually a better guitar player now than he ever was, acoustic and electric. and he uses his voice so much more instead of just slurring his words, no disrespect to billie joe, i idolize the man, he was amazing back then, but he is still really amazing!!

Did they play the same venue twice in a year? Or was it a two days thing?

Yes they played the London Astoria twice in 1998 according to the fan website looking at past tour dates from that year.
They played another Astoria and opened with Pasalacqua, At the Library, One of My Lies and then Only of You. The setlist was crazy good that night. It was 1st February 1998.
Hey, they actually played the Astoria 3 times that year! Once in September '97, once in Feb '98 and then this gig which was August '98. The September '97 gig was a one off and so was this August '98 show. The Feb '98 gig (That starts with Pasalacqua), was part of the Nimrod tour, and they did 3 nights in London, because they kept selling more tickets, so 2x Brixton Academy and then they announced one last London show at the Astoria. I was at all of these except the 2nd Brixton night. Feb '98 Astoria was great, played some seriously rare stuff, including Take Back. That was a good year!!

I have a VHS of this, the quality is really good, sadly this upload has issues from scalling or transfer I think.
