    🌸 🏫
'For An Angel' has a great explanation about burikko in the comment they posted.
Your all-time Sakura Gakuin burikko stars were Megumi Okada (joined 2014) and Momoe Mori (joined 2016).
Megumi is currently attending University (she got into her first choice school) and Momoe is in the JPop group @onefive, along with former BABYMETAL avenger Kano Fujihira.
Current member Yume Nozaki (joined 2018) also has a natural affinity.
And she learned a lot from Momoe, other than singing and dancing. : )

10:20 Burikko, acting super girlishly cutesy, always wearing pink and frilly skirt and stuff. The 2 burikko that SG had were Megumi and Momoe. Megumi joined the group along with the first boyish girl Sara, so they were polar opposite and fans memed them for being a couple, ship-named them SaraMegu. Megumi kind of grew out of burikko as she got older, then it was inherited by Momoe.
Want to react to their acting? I can link to their skit in 2018, which I'd say is their best skit, thank to the fact that 2 of their best actresses were in that year.

For completism's sake, the answer to the question at 12:25, "What was Sakamoto Ryoma honored for in 1866?". He negotiated a treaty between Satsuma and Choshu, two powerful lordships whose forces together were able to defeat the Tokugawa Shogunate, leading ultimately to the restoration of the Emperor. He was assassinated the next year at the age of 31. There are statues and memorials to him everywhere, and many, many films and TV shows. Even an airport named after him. Probably the most famous figure in Japan to be almost unheard of beyond these shores.

Nendo actually means school year. It could also mean fiscal year but in this context it just means school year. The Japanese school year begins in May and ends in March. Technically it begins on April 1 but there is no school in April because it is between school years. Their spring break is like our summer break and their summer break is like our spring break. It gets a little more confusing because when they refer to for example the 2020 Nendo they mean the school year that began in May of 2020. The 2020 Nendo would have normally ended in March of 2021 but the end of the 2019 and 2020 Nendos were postponed to the end of August due to the coronavirus. This is only for Sakura Gakuin though. The real schools in Japan are still going from May to March. So when Suzuka graduated from SG at the end of the 2012 Nendo, that was actually in March of 2013. Yui and Moa, whose senior year in SG was the 2014 Nendo, graduated in March of 2015. But the current and last Nendo 2020 will end in about 2 months.
Burikko roughly translates to "childish-manner". It's when a Japanese girl acts in an excessively cute way. It doesn't really have to involve acting dumb, it could just be talking in a high pitched voice. Japanese people are obsessed with everything kawaii (cute) especially girls. Some girls have a natural talent for acting burikko and the other girls think it's funny.

For the 2012 Nendo Mass Test, Mori-sensei (that is, the Amuse Corp. Staff, but Mori was in on it) tricked them by telling them the event of the day was a game show to be filmed in the "classroom" and then sprung the test on them instead. From 2013, the pranks became quite elaborate and have their own videos.

Burikko is like kawaii culture taken over the top. There's also what's called 'kawaii-ko' which if you've ever seen those tiny little anime girls who talk in super squeaky over-the-top voices with TONS of energy...that's kawaii-ko, which is very similar to burikko, but burikko has a more self-indulgent aspect to it, which makes it annoying to others. Burikko often has a negative connotation while kawaii-ko does not.

This video illustrates what a wonderful being Marina Horiuchi is. She uses her magical power to grant Yui's wish to be tall like Airi, and Ayami's to be as cool as Ayaka, if only for a little while. Marina is one of only two Sakura Gakuin girls to openly use her magic. The other was Marin Hidaka (Sakura Gakuin member 2015-2019), but she used her powers mostly to torment Mori Sensei and creep out the other girls. Airi is just a little taller than Ayaka, which helped her to become a successful model as well. In later years Sakura Gakuin placed more emphasis on acting training along with singing and dancing, and the videos from that period contain many hilarious skits.

"Nendo test" is just a name for it that's easier to remember. "Nendo" is a fixed year long time frame different from the calender year, so a school year or fiscal year. The actual name of the test is "Gakunen Matsu Tesuto" (学年待つテスト) which roughly translates to "Expected Yearly School Exam", or literally "gakunen" = school year, "matsu" = expect(ed), "tesuto" = test, so something like end of semester exams.

Kawaiko burikko (可愛い娘ぶりっ子) means to pretend a cute girl. In my boyhood, from 70's to 80's, I think it is the words to become popular, as expressing the most famous idol and represented singer, Matsuda Seiko (松田聖子) in Japan. Magz is exactly right. It also means to hide the girl's bad personality. However, Ayami loves idol songs from the 80's, so she expresses burikko in a funny way, but since all the members of Sakura Gakuin have a good personality, so they don't need to pretend burikko. Or even if they pretend burikko, it's not a sarcasm. because they are all really cute, haha.

I know nothing about these little stories, but I assume Mori-sensei created them. I guess they are one of his ingenuous ways to teach them important stuff while having fun at the same time. Every character is unique with none being better than the other. But it‘s allowed to take other people‘s traits as an example to improve yourself.
What I am wondering: Are there actually classes where Mori-sensei teaches them stuff like in a real school, as shown in these videos?

    • @jeans4484
      @jeans4484 3 года назад

No, it won't be him, Mori-sen is actor/script writer, something like this would be done by staffs and their head producer Kuramoto.
_What I am wondering: Are there actually classes where Mori-sensei teaches them stuff like in a real school, as shown in these videos?_
They're not school, Mori-sen is not their teacher, but he does give advices - a lot of advices - to them as seasoned artist share his knowledge to young artists.
They do have open classes, a show where you see them learn various stuffs form professionals, real show where you pay tickets for, and the girls have made a lot of impression on these pros, like sensei that taught them to draw manga (I think that's her subject) became fan and came to shows, the grand master that taught sword performance recruited Mirena to play Millennium Momotaro (it's heavy metal musical where she play samurai princess, doing traditional Japanese swordplay, singing in heavy metal), master that taught Rakugo (traditional comedy) took the liking of them, especially Miki and promise to write Rakugo for them.

The girls are at SG to work, for the common schooling, they goes to normal school.
_I don't understand why you seem so certain that this wouldn't have been written by a script writer, though?_
Because it's 2011, when they still signed with Universal J, this is too big a budget to have Mori-sensei write it, they became a ragtag, low budget, have to do everything themselves after 2015.

He talked about it in a FRESH or LoGIRL Episode and said that it was (one of) the hardest one(s) to write because he didn't know the girls that well yet. Early SG was utterly horrible at acting. Though in the future Ayaka and Airi are famous actresses, Hinata a famous voice actress and musical actress, and Ruara does stage plays.
Yet you watch Nendo 2018 Festival Skit and it makes this stuff just look sad.
Burriko is a demeaning personality trait in Japan, it baby cute is one way to describe it. It's insulting to call an older teenager or an adult, not so much for a little kid or preteen, though it's a trait that is a acting well below your age.
