Regarding mtb suspension: if you've bottomed it out and you didn't felt it you are spot on with the pressure. Dial in the damping to your liking but not to slow and you're set up. Then there would be the possibility to improve small bump sensitivity and bottom out resistance by implanting a volume spacer in the positive airchamber of your fork or damper

The longest XC look I riden in NL is Schoorl lol Not that it's 'bad', I think it's great.. maar het gras lijkt altijd groener ergens anders ;) edit: btw I realize Schoorl is in the dune's mostly and wasn't ever 'where the fish swim' but Noord-Scharwoude en Heerhugowaard.. Heck je moet op de 'uitkijkheuvel' staan om over de ringdijk te kijken 😂😂
Great racing Jasper! In future, if you suspect the course is going to be muddy, change the tyres out to something with more tread, and let the pressure down.
Yeah, the rest of the track was quite dry so 🤷🏼♂️ Also it would be quite an effort to change tires last minute 😅 (don’t have multiple Mtb wheelset, usually very busy on days before and after races… so not sure when i would do that haha)
@@jasperverkuijl Yeah, that is fair. I personally run Schwalbe Rapid Rob and Racing Ralph tyres because they have a lot of grip, but still have great rolling resistance. Then, you will never have to change out your tyres because they are suited to all conditions.

Volume tokens are for bottom-out resistance. For your tires it does sound you have way to much pressure. Try the silica tirepressue calculator! I'm 72kg, a hard charging xc rider with 2.4" tires at 18psi for reference! I love the mtb content, keep up the work!

Mmmm, I thought they would give a bit more detail. The left top shows the full thing (so you can see where in the lap I am), yhe right is more zoomed in so you see the actual trail routing. Anyways, it’s all changeable etc 🤙🏻
One of the key things is to be smooth and controlled in the slippery mud. It’s better to be slower and in control rather than being hyper aggressive and then crashing and losing time and potentially ending your race

as an xc racer my self you did great on catching al of those guys even starting from the back. keep it up 👏👏 ps my average HR for a race is 187 and my max wil be around 198 or higer but i am stil young so it is possible for me to sustain such high HR for a race
Zo te zien heb je de Fox 34 vork wat zou betekenen dat je een travel hebt van 120mm. Dat is in elk geval wel een beetje de nieuwe standaard aan het worden voor XC Fietsen. Lekker gereden overigens, wat je zegt flow maakt een hoop verschil je kunt echt veel winnen zonder echt elke keer te hoeven sprinten als je in de flow kunt blijven.

I use it in mtb but when the race is so dynamic as this one it's almost impossible to analyze it during such race, comparing to bmp metrics that is not jumping so fast. My question is : " is it worth to buy it for cross country racing?"
I agree. I would not look at it like on the road. But you can always analyze stuff and it would give a better calculation for carb burn etc too. ( in the EatMyRide app) Im also doing a 7 hour race later this year which will be different trails with more steady efforts. Than it may be valuable

Speed is your friend in a rock garden most of the time. ( not always) It takes a little nerve sometimes but with some speed you go "over" the top of the rockgarden instead of thru it. A little like riding cobbles, but more drastic 😅😂

Ja ik had veel teveel. 1.5/1.7 oid dacht ik….. met Bartje200 reed ik met 1.35/1.5 met zelfde banden…. Dus gewoon stomme fout. Ik dacht stenen, stoot lek/schade dus meer druk maar…

On the chain-wax website it says to wax after 150km!!! Lolololo: are they trolling or is this wax for sunday-riders. I ride that in a day, I can't way three times a week 🤣
If you hotwax, it will last very long. (Way more than 150km) If you ride on the road, it will last even longer. Than you only have to apply a bit of drip wax to keep it in top shape. I think the website gives different advice in different situations. I’ve done 200km in 1 ride in a sandy desert (Dubai) without extra application and it was still silent. Check my 2 recent videos in Dubai for more about the wax.
Here is how you tell what kind of race it is…what kind of bike was everyone riding? Thats it, thats the answer. Too rough for a road bike? Then its a gravel race. Too big of drops to not have suspension? Then its a mountain bike race. I am from Colorado and anyone who says this isnt enough climbing hasn’t ridden up a muddy hill recently enough. That mud looked like the kind that is both sticky and slippery at the same time.

XC is awesome. Had my first Race last weekind in Arnsberg Germany. 95km ~2400am . Finished Second-to-last place 🙂 .. was fun. Liked it.

Bottom out the suspension doesn't mean it has to be hardened. Using your suspension's full travel a couple times in a ride is normal.

If you ride on the road, it will last even longer.
Than you only have to apply a bit of drip wax to keep it in top shape.
I think the website gives different advice in different situations. I’ve done 200km in 1 ride in a sandy desert (Dubai) without extra application and it was still silent. Check my 2 recent videos in Dubai for more about the wax.
Here is how you tell what kind of race it is…what kind of bike was everyone riding? Thats it, thats the answer. Too rough for a road bike? Then its a gravel race. Too big of drops to not have suspension? Then its a mountain bike race. I am from Colorado and anyone who says this isnt enough climbing hasn’t ridden up a muddy hill recently enough. That mud looked like the kind that is both sticky and slippery at the same time.
The mud was horrible 😵

Lol people Really say This isnt mtb? It for sure isnt road riding and not even gravel so Yeah, 100% mtb. This is how i picture XC with alot of smaller ups and downs and a ton of built obstacles
