@@stevekolarik2857 With every explosion there is a compression wave. One that would blow off the turret of a 60 ton tank would be quite massive. I would have had a few of the figures look as though they were getting blown over by the shock wave and maybe have the tree's leaves on the explosion side getting blown off and the tree bending. Fantastic explosion effect, I love how you did it and I'm guessing it is the focal point of the diorama?
@@stevekolarik2857 It is a job VERY well done. I was at a CAF CON contest once and my diorama of an F-4 that crashed only got honorable mention because the judges felt it would have been more destroyed had it crashed pilotless...I was then at an IPMS contest and watched a judge make the comment on a (I believe) an H-19 helicopter, "Those seat-belts are the wrong color. When I flew those in Korea, they were darker." All I'm saying here is, if a diorama is to go to the next level, it needs to be as captivating as the focal point. It is obvious this artist has the talent to do that.
Very interesting project and undertaking, but I cannot help but feel that it's incomplete. I can't shake the feeling that the explosion looks like a solid object. What I would do? Use more, rare cotton around it, to simulate the dispersion of smoke. Smoke is not a solid column of black and grey. It has little strings and straws of dispersed smoke besides it. The little columns of smoke coming out of the hatches are a great addition, but they look plain wrong. From a distance, it looks like worms coming out of the hatches. For one: There is no way that a column of smoke just like the main one, would rise from the commander's hatch on the flying turret. REason for that, is that the turret has momentum in the air, and there is no way smoke would push out of it like that. Best case, it would disperse out of it in a rarified manner, on the sides, not in a streamlined jet of smoke. The ones from the hull hatches should be rarified. DOn't use the same density cotton as the main explosion. Just some suggestions ^-^

You assume the T-34 is what killed the Panther. At that close range, none of the fuse detonators on the projectiles would have armed, be it from the Panther, T-34/76, or the little 37mm AT gun. I think it was a KV-2 about 900 meters away that killed the Panther.

Given the current diorama situation, I would say it seems a bit off. Too many things on a small diorama. But the explosion looks fantastic with the light and all.

For those I've read commenting the T-34 couldn't do this, well, look at the T-34 the gun is pointed somewhere else. The tank destroyer elsewhere makes sense to obliterate that Panther for sure :)
The T-34/76 model 1941 (76mm F34 cannon, but not the hexagonal turret like on the 1942.) was capable of destroying the Panther at this range. Earlier Panther tanks, had the curved gun mantlets so 76 mm AP shell could deflect into the roof of the hull, and that could easily hit the ammo rack in the fighting compartment, you don't always have to penetrate something frontally to destroy it. And maybe if the Soviet crew was experienced, then from the get go they would know how to destroy the "Big Cat". On the other hand, they should call themselves lucky, getting this close to a Panther, without getting shot.
