    I just pruned my apple tree here in Massachusetts, USA…
    The lady in this video is such a lovely person. My mother was from the United Kingdom,
    I wish I could get my citizenship, and I could have a neighbor like this.
    The United States has worn me out.
    Thank you for the great video

      Some of the extra talking might be to alert you about kinds of apples that fruit on the end of branches.
      Pruning them this way would cut off the fruit buds.

    Interesting idea, decreasing the density of the fruiting spurs. Is this to decrease the output in order to increase the quality of the fruit?

    hello Sally, water shoots are worth a mention, normally these are caused by incorrect pruning over previous years on everyday apple trees in private gardens.

    Hi do you cut off the outer facing bud or do cut back just leaving the bud ? Thank you.

    • @HagrinaFatarse
      @HagrinaFatarse 10 месяцев назад

      leave it as i understand you can also choose wich direction the brench shall grow by end-bud since it should be the one producing a new brench. so you dont have to have that bud face outwards but you do not want it to grow into the other brenches.

    I don't understand "prune back to an outer facing bud". And do you leave the bud on the stem or cut it off?

    • @lifeinthelabyrinth
      @lifeinthelabyrinth 2 года назад

      An out facing bud is a bud that points outwards, NOT into the centre of the tree, air flow around the centre of the tree is very important.

    you seem to know what you are doing...I have a dwarf apple tree that has grown quite tall.There are a half dozen larger limbs growing straight up..which I believe need cut out. When I cut them..do I need to paint the cut part or leave it to scar over by itself?

    I had never heard that the ideal spacing of spurs is 4 to 6inches a part and that the spurs need to be removed if closer. I assume that is true for both apple tree and pear tree. Thank you

    FYI...If cutting diseased branches....sterilise secateurs after cuts or you will spread it to all new cuts 🙏🏻

  • @michaelrupf776
    @michaelrupf776 9 месяцев назад +1

    you should shorten the new growth at least 1/2 or more.

    Horrible pruning. The tree is too dense and instead of removing vertical branches, the half cut forces more growth and new branching to a more dense crown.

    • @HagrinaFatarse

      i would try prune it back, you can leave a leave brench on each main brench you cut to increase chance of its survival or cut one larger mainbrench each year if you want to be extra careful

    Most of the old wood in that tree will have no leaves, fruit bud or fruit on it. All the fruit will be on the outside of the tree.

  • @jonathandance7372
    @jonathandance7372 3 года назад

    So 1/4 million people have seen secateurs being used back to front...........the cutting blade of bypass secateurs must always be on the downward (treeward) side of the cut otherwise you get poor cuts leading to more disease, as in this instance.
