  • Clocked logic chips (both combinational and sequential) require a clock pulse to function, and usually respond to the rising edge or falling edge of the clock. Set up time, rising or falling time, and propagation delay are all things you have to take into consideration (and are all available in your datasheet) if you want to use your chip at its maximum speed.
