    The air vents are not fake, they form a verticle blade of air pushing past the outer edge of the tyre.
    If you looked inside the front arch you will see the outlet.
    This improves the air flow around the wheel and also decreases the air pressure on the bumper.
    It's the same on the Zoe.

    It is about £5k more than a similarly spec'd petrol hybrid version, £10k more than an entry level one. So not too bad, but a full electric should be similar without all the suck-bang-blow paraphernalia...

    PHEVs are still relevant, especially now many of them do offer sufficient range to cover an average persons daily drive without using the engine. Whether it makes sense depends on use case. If you need a daily commuter but with occasional long trips a PHEV could well operate as an EV for well over 90% of the time for many while minimising demand on batteries.

    • @chruth1986
      @chruth1986 4 года назад

      Yes absolutely and of course the other point is as was quite rightly mentioned in the video is that you should change the batteries regularly otherwise they become effectively dead weight which massively affects mpg.

    I have an early 2013 Captur. At the time there were very few smaller cars that would take a family with teenage children comfortably. The Nissan Juke and similar cars have no leg room in the back behind a 6 ft driver. In 2013 we found the Captur the best match for useful internal space without going for a larger more expensive car. The new hybrid sounds very expensive!

    Thanks for the review. We'll never get them in the states but I do know the market for the PHEVs. I drive electric and have been trying to get others to think that way for the next car purchase. Two I know have bought since I've been talking up the electric and both bought PHEVs. I guess it is a good 'dip your toe in' for the electric market for them. They can't fathom having an all-electric car so this is the next option. I actually drive a hybrid (BMW i3), but I don't use it that way unless I'm on a long journey. I only drive electric during the week. I guess once they get a taste of it they'll be ready for the full electric version next time.

    Andy, please would you make that video, how to drive a PHEV, it would be brilliant. Please try to include some specific figures even if only guesstimates as to the real mpg that we’d get from one. The problem is it won’t get enough views if it’s buried at the end of a review of an PHEV itself. Hope that makes sense! I want to get an EV, but can’t yet find the mid-sized SUV I need at a decent price, so 30 grand. I’m waiting for VW ID4 and Skoda eniaq, but they may not come in time for my lease renewal. A PhEV therefore looks like it’s going to be the best possibility. Therefore let’s have a video telling us how to get the best mpg out of one. Thanks mate love the channel yours is the only car channel that my wife will watch!

    We'll probably stick with another Niro plug-in rather than go full electric, best of both worlds at the moment and suits our needs.

    I suppose the only appeal in these sort of hybrids is you can use electric most of the time and petrol for longer trips so your not reliant on the crap motorway chargers 😞
    My point of view is they are too complicated, you have the normal ICE maintenance costs ( and all the things that can wrong with a engine ) with nearly the normal running costs of ICE but for the price of fully capable EV. Also when these are several years old god help any mechanic that works on them ( normal ICE engine bays are crammed with enough stuff, never mind motors, HV cables, inverters etc )
    I think people just need to keep it simple and go fully electric, if your a 2 car household then keep a ICE car for the longer journeys until long range electric cars become cheap enough.

    Interesting to hear that a PHEV holds it value in Europe. I just bought a Hyundai Sonata PHEV ( US large saloon car ), 2017 with 25k miles, for $16k. A Honda Clarity would cost maybe a couple of thousand more ( and has 50 mile EV range ). Basically they have lost about 50% of their value from new, perhaps a little more. Guess that's the difference when petrol is about two pound fifty a gallon. What I have realized is that the ICE has probably only done a few thousand miles and you really need a "running hours" figure for the components not just a pure miles covered in order to know how "used" the mechanical components of the vehicle are. If I lived in the UK I think I would go full electric. Unless your a Cornishman living in Scotland I just don't think range can be that much of an issue for most people. I would like an EV with a year round range of 200 and most of the European EVs don't seem to have that. Guess I would be in an ID.3 with the mid size battery.

    Looks better than the old Capture. When my Zoe was in for a recall two years ago they lent me a Captur diesel and it was horrible compared with the Zoe. So noisy and the pick up very slow compared with an EV. I am not a fan of the new Renault key either. I imagine the glovebox will be half the size in RHD cars (the fuse box tends to be on the left of the dash and they don't move it). I'm a bit on enthusiast too and not really aimed at me either.

    I can't see the point of plug-in hybrids - very expensive, and need constant re-charging. Two of my friends have self-charging hybrids (Toyotas), and they spend a lot of time in town running on the electric motor. I would guess that people who buy plug-ins rapidly get fed up with the constant re-charging and just run them as petrol cars - a rechargable hybrid makes a lot more sense - and a lot cheaper as well.

    Battery too small imho, needs more range especially considering the likely hood of reduced ( if any ) range in winter, battery degradation will happen fast because its gonna be constantly fully discharged and charged far more than a full ev
    Personally I'd prefer full ev with big battery and long range keeping it charged around 50% when long journeys not needed.
    A better hybrid in my mind would be a big battery and a tiny engine which acts as a range extender charging the battery, but the engine would be used so rarely it probably would work when it was needed lol.

    Andy. I like how you recognise that not everyone can get an EV, but to still talk about cheap electricity? Electricity isn't much cheaper than petrol/diesel if you have to get it from the public chargers!
    The public chargers around me (except Tesco - free 7kw, at the moment) cost near enough the same, 30p per kwh and about £1 initial connection charge - whether rapid, fast or slow!
    40% of UK households don't have access to off street parking so, therefore, cannot leave the car on charge overnight. A PHEV is the best choice - until (if ever) FCEV's gain acceptance. They don't take long to charge on a public charger and you can always use the granny plug if needed.
    My next car will be the Golf GTE. I have a Golf at the moment, so don't want to drop down in quality to a Nissan or Renault and I can't afford anything from the better brands but I also want to be able to drive a good distance some times! If I buy a BEV, I can only charge free at Tesco on 7kw, which would take 4+ hours and be noticed by its fair usage police!

You'd still need a charger (a home one is supplied free of charge apparently) and you'd still need petrol. Why not go full -EV straightaway? So paying well over the odds for such a poorly looking car, I just don’t see the point spending all that money for a hybrid car that only get 25-30 miles might as well buy a very good diesel or like someone mentioned a mgev or would rather have a second hand Bmw i3

    • @scottwills4698
      @scottwills4698 4 года назад +1

      It’s because research says that most people only do 30 miles a day so can be driven as an EV most of the time with the convenience of a petrol engine if you then decided to go 300 miles. I think PHEV’s were relevant 3 years ago. With cars like the ŠKODA Enyaq having 300miles (WLTP) and costing from £33k on the road it won’t be long until PHEV’s have had their day.
