Way better captain than Mistlin, who looks happy when things are going his way but starts stressing out when they dont. Stress cud be the reason why he handed victory to Edinburgh by fcuking up the last easy starter 'Brazil'.
Yes he did. Hope he gets a grip and is nicer in later rounds. Also I wasnt a fan of Chevallier earlier but now I guess shes more confident and one can see her personality and like McKeown, answers quietly but correctly.
I'm Jack Didnt you say earlier that Stone allegedly slept with him to get on TV? I can see why thats utterly believable considering shes prob the weakest female in the QFs... why would anyone want to be Carson Weinsteins friend?
Sandra27HK I absolutely did not say that. Could you refer to which episode i talked like that? For I remember, I was the one who defended Stone from a rude person who accused her of sleeping with the captain.
Sandra27HK just got from an older episode. Turns out you read my comment wrong. I never accused her of sleeping with the captain. Also, you are clearly insecure with her.
I'm Jack You missed my 'allegedly'. Are u dyslexic coz thats excusable, otherwise ... How can one be 'insecure' with a bimbo? Her average of 1 gives me a superiority complex Lol Not a single mention of Chevalliers 4 stars so I like to give the dicks here a reality check ... You forgot to answer my reason that Stone is prob the weakest female in the QFs... shes averaging 1... laughable compared to the other female contestants
“Well you’ve just had it snatched from your grasp there at the end, but, well, that’s how it goes.” Gotta love when brits attempt to offer words of consolation. 😂
Larry Panozzo 'Snatched' coz of a chemistry question aimed at the only chem student Carson ('iron') when they were 75:115 down and 3 easy dinosaur questions unfit for a QF which let them catch up and tie at 115:115 ...
I say this after watching Edinburgh squeeze past better teams like UCL with just 5 points both times, coz of being 'fed' questions. This time 10 points before Mistlins fcukup... if they got through even once with a well-deserved big margin like other teams, Id be happy to give them credit but squeezing past ALL THREE times with tiny margins is a bit of a stretch...
Sandra27HK Next time Edinburgh play, they're going to lose. Hard. Before you ask how I know, they play Merton next time and while Edinburgh have moments of falling asleep as Paxman may put it, Merton just keep on going. And before you ask how I know that will be the players for the next match with Edinburgh; think about it.
Sandra27HK Now that four initital matches have been played, next week we find out who goes through to the semi finals (Newcastle or St. John's) so the next team who have won a quarter final will be Merton and Edinburgh.
Sandra27HK Simple: He had Colu as a replacement for his urinary system. No, not really. And I suppose the same principle goes to The Apprentice. Not the "how do they store all the water in their bladder" but "how do they actually eat and drink". Now, obviously, they eat like human beings. I'm wondering more as to when they are able to eat and drink.
I have a feeling this is like 2014: The first three winning teams will go through to the quarter finals while these two are merely cannon fodder. Unfortunately, you can't determine cannon fodder in this series (the entire show, not this particular season) until the end of the quarter finals. Especially since 2010.
Sandra27HK Edinburgh have done it since the start of the series. Emmanuel did full intros in the last two matches, that's why I'm only mentioning them. If you had read the comment, I said "First name intros *now* "
Wayne Loveday I don't really care for how contestants introduce themselves. Unlike Durham Harmonics Choir (yes, that's the actual name of the channel).
The difference in attitude between the two captains was very stark towards the end. Carson was thinking, encouraging, answering & working for his team. Mistlin on the other hand was being an arrogant & glib prick. Delighted for Edinburgh though the rest of the Emmanuel team seem alright.
Must be something seriously wrong with me. Am working my way through old UC episodes from years back and a regular, almost compulsory, comment is the mean-mindedly claiming at least one contestant (if not the whole team) is arrogant, smug, etc., etc. So far, I've seen only one contestant (who was captain of his team) who I thought fitted that description. Then again, another almost compulsory complaint is the arrogance, rudeness, etc., etc. of Mr Paxman, whom I consider anything but.
Point of interest: Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix suggests Puccini, the only name available in the intrellectual gamut for opera for those under 50, despite (due to?) Sontag's reduction of him to kitsch. Then when Brahms' Alto Rhapsody begins, the association is with Wagner; at least culturally it's related. I shuddered when Gluck began...I thought the response might be Handel or Mozart -- something relevant at least. But no, Puccini...again.
This is probably natural though, given that Emmanuel are now in the quarter finals and they now have to win *two*, count it, *two* matches (as Jeremy Paxman has said every year practically since 2010).
That doesn't excuse anyone for being rude. I've watched/rewatched many seasons of UC by now and I observe, usually by the start of QF, the quizzers tend to get frustrated with themselves for not getting an answer right but rarely receive rudeness from teammates. Mistlin however is a bit unfair to his teammates here, saying "What's the answer then?" or something and nominating Fraser even though the latter made clear he doesn't know the answer.
Cleofe I agree on the aspect of rudeness. Though I suspect he's one of those people who begins to take the game very seriously. A bit like Fred Harvey from Durham in 2014, even when a place in the semi finals was within their grasp. Just watch the last question and as the suggestion of Venezuela comes up he goes "Okay!" as if it's the worst suggestion ever.
A poor show of knowledge amongst these eight --- disappointing indeed. But in music, ghastly errors: Tosca for Eurydice! And to require 25 minutes to get to a mere 100 points --- there have been better teams.
Chevallier rocks and clearly earned her place on the team with 4 starters across different topics while Stone clearly didnt. She's a biology student but wrongly answered 'dialysis' and Paxman snorts 'kidney is correct of course' read 'easy peasy you dummy' :P Then again at 20:30 'beechnuts are definitely edible' at her dumb answer. Carson shouldve known better, Paxman not in a good mood Lol
I agree with Paxmans 'of course' as it shouldve been easy for a biology student. Your explanation is immaterial as it doesnt get points. If Fraser, a med student, understood and answered correctly the organ, she should have too. Sorry, no points for your weak 'pointless' defense :)
These contestants should all have been disqualified for their stupid first-name-only introductions - Mr Mistlin excepted! It's not cool or contemporary - it's really bloody irritating! (Excuse my language!) Actually, Stone can be exempt from this rule too as she's hot!
Durham Harmonics choir In contrast to more stronger words, bloody is comparatively tame. Though if Trinity Oxford had survived, I'd have loved them to go against Edinburgh and for Roger Tilling (sorry, Roger) to go "Asking the questions....Jeremy." and along with that, perhaps the first name principle for the credits as well.
Ha ha! I'll use a much stronger word next time if these contestants do first name intros yet again! No complaint against Stone though - she can do what she wants 'cos she's pretty hot ha ha ha ha!
Durham Harmonics choir What if Rosenfeld (sorry, Nicole) had survived the second round? Besides Stone, anyone else you find "hot" from this year, last year and the year before that?
Very nice to see carson comforting heaton-armstrong..and then telling "dont worry" for wrong answers..
He's been like that since the series started to be fair.
Way better captain than Mistlin, who looks happy when things are going his way but starts stressing out when they dont.
Stress cud be the reason why he handed victory to Edinburgh by fcuking up the last easy starter 'Brazil'.
Sandra27HK
Quite. Though I suppose he started alright in the first two matches.
Yes he did.
Hope he gets a grip and is nicer in later rounds. Also I wasnt a fan of Chevallier earlier but now I guess shes more confident and one can see her personality and like McKeown, answers quietly but correctly.
Sandra27HK
Chevalier studies Arabic and Hindi, and I suppose you could describe her as a former word (an arabic word, that is): An assassin.
We all need a friend like Carson

As much as I hate to keep spoiling your fanfiction Sandra, it wasn't my place to choose my teammates, and I'm gay.
Innes Carson is a very good captain. He comforted his teammates. He also got some nice "saved buzz" near the end there.
He's been like that since the start of the series.
I really like him he's cool!!
“Well you’ve just had it snatched from your grasp there at the end, but, well, that’s how it goes.”

Im barely recovering from a 4-day long weekend binge (coz of Chinese New Year) ... cant seem to find my thinking cap. Do explain.
Sandra27HK

Carson is my favourite captain of all time. Seems like such a nice guy.
Paxman was justifiably bewildered by the ignorance of Emmanuel
psimanjuntk Many thanks!
10:40 Oxford appears on a standard Monopoly board, name TWO of the other three CITIES which do so. Heaton-Armstrong: "Kent?"
Old Kent, surely? Haha
Old Kent Road
Ex Essex Heaton-Armstrong was clearly intelligent but was WAY too trigger happy on the buzzer. His impetuousness almost cost the whole team.
Stone was clutch!!! And mistlin pissed it all away
Chevallier is part elf. I like elves
More of a Goblin. I like Goblins.
When I first saw Stone I knew…she wasn't Scottish.
Monday 19th February 2018
Carson
Stone is so beautiful
Stone's last second game winner still maybe the best moment of the season. Edinburgh are the masters of crunch time.
Lukas Maria aus Wien
NOT sth to be proud of when other teams are crushing their competition ...
Loved last season's Edinburgh team tho ...
Sandra27HK
As did I because they lived much less dangerously than this year at this stage in the competition.
Adam Walker
Simply coz they were way better. Often wondered where Smith put all that h2o coz surely toilet breaks must be limited :P
Sandra27HK

Wow, that is an unexpected win. I doubt either of these teams will make it to the finals, though, but I may be wrong.
I have a feeling this is like 2014: The first three winning teams will go through to the quarter finals while these two are merely cannon fodder.
Unfortunately, you can't determine cannon fodder in this series (the entire show, not this particular season) until the end of the quarter finals. Especially since 2010.
Both teams knowledge appears not to be general at all, as they have very little idea about literature or any other kind of art.
Oh, so Emmanuel are (sort of) doing first name intros now, are they?
Adam Walker As have quite a few other teams before them, and why not, considering their surnames are emblazoned unmissably in front of them! 😀
Edinburgh ALL did and only Emmanuels Mistlin didnt... why only mention Emmanuel?
Sandra27HK
Edinburgh have done it since the start of the series. Emmanuel did full intros in the last two matches, that's why I'm only mentioning them.

I figured the 'now' was as useless as the 'are they?' :P
The difference in attitude between the two captains was very stark towards the end. Carson was thinking, encouraging, answering & working for his team. Mistlin on the other hand was being an arrogant & glib prick. Delighted for Edinburgh though the rest of the Emmanuel team seem alright.
Typical Oxbridge captain, isn't he? At least, that's what the perception of Oxbridge people are

Capote? Kafka?
AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Is it their original tune at the beginning? If else, what's its name
It's an unattractive string-quartety version of the original, much more cheerful and upbeat theme.
If I remember correctly (?) the original had some jaunty "bing bong" noises in with it. Don't know the name tho....
College Boy is what it's called. It got replaced in about 2004 or something
Stanley's the man!
Learn everywhere ! At least i gotta some Knowledge 🌐🇬🇧❤️
This episode is a bit passive
edinburgh are clutch. ice in their veins

You missed Heaton-As meltdown, nice pic posted on Twitter. He was great last 2 rounds tho ...

Why was dialysis wrong when kidney was the correct answer - don’t they achieve the same effect?
Ringing in early is risky, as it should be. Otherwise, it would just be a guessing game.
It was wrong because the question was asking about the organ, not the process.
watson956 Thanks - I can see that
Stone if you’re ever in Illinois hit me up
Marry me Miss Stone
Stone clutch pt 2
Carson still mvp though
Mr12345bleepbloop
At this rate he'll be the OVP.
Stone is very pretty. :-D
For such clever people, they are consistently awful with their knowledge of cinema in every episode of UC.
@MichaelKingsfordGray: *facepalm*
Mistlin was a bit rude to his teammates.

Harvey to Boyd-Shah: Do you have anything on that?

She answered before the question had finished, so her answer could have been correct.
Almus Quotch
It wasnt ...
Thought your name was Anus there for a moment, bloody hell, hope for your sake thats not your real name :P
why are you so mean to others?
Almus is a pseudonym anyway, but I'm guessing you're trolling or just really dim.
