Your RUclips Garden: it struck me today as we watched you exhale and also express your gratitude to us, your RUclips family, that perhaps your Channel in a way is like a garden or farm. You and John have planted seeds that have sprung up into over 120,000 viewers and growing. Hard work, love and learning has created an amazing crop of people that love and support you, that also get inspiration and happiness from you and your family. There are bound to be some weeds and dare I say it, even a few bamboo, you think you’ve got rid of them and then they pop back up again! 😂 But hard work,perseverance and positivity have yielded in a lovely life, wonderful local friends and a network of like minded RUclipsrs! That teepee you guys were building reminded me of a community I used to live in, in Topanga Canyon ten years ago that spills onto Topanga Beach & surfing & Malibu Beach to the north a bit (also not far from Laurel Canyon on the other side, further toward L.A.where the Mamas & Papas used to hang out ..."Young Girls Are Coming To The Canyon") & where a lot of creative people have lived over the years. My daughter lived at The Tribal Oasis & I went to live there in my own tiny house w/ Kindlydude for awhile just to be near her when my grandbaby was young. Everyone was into clean whole food, and some of the more adventurous types went to build fantastical structures at Burning Man. It was like returning to my youth in my 20s a bit when I lived one canyon over. There were Tiny houses & medium-size houses made of river stone, wood, straw-bale, adobe, ...you name it. and beautiful creative shapes & colorful tile work in some of the houses. There was a community garden but only the stalwart were dedicated enough to keep it going. Most people had full time jobs off-property. Some tiny houses were up to code & some were down right rickety ...everything was always in as state of flux and change. The owner created & sold essential oils & herbs. I got a bit teary-eyed watching the Teepee go up as we helped raise one ourselves and I watched a yurt going up as well. I lived in Malibu Canyon in my 20s at another self-sustaining community with a farm that I volunteered on and worked in the Kitchen, & Montessori school. My husband, Kindlydude was the chief chef for New Vrindaban, West Virginia for almost 30 years. He had to leave because the corruption became so bad (beware of serpents ...even in paradise). But community can be truthful, good, and whole ...as good, truthful & whole as it's members. This video really gave me the sense of an extended community that you all participate in & makes me think a wider association and offers of help would be such a boost & lift for everyone in the homesteading community in your part of the world. How wonderful to have a nearby homesteading community! That guy looked like he could be John's brother ...they both seem to have strawberry hair & beards. And how lovely to have other babies and children nearby to grow up with for Crusoe and Sawyer. That gathering looked like so much fun! God Bless you Newbys ...& I'm glad you're not going away! Hi guys! You can't imagine how you're such an inspiration. Only the ones who do not have a farm can't understand how hard it can be, living and working a piece of land 24/7. All projects seems to take lots of time. At the end, looking back we realize how much work we did and how beatiful it is working in something ours and to the ones whe love the most. Same feeling, so much of worry, struggle, stress, burnout and still trying to manage everything and cram everything possible into 24hrs everyday 24*7 has made me exhausted. For the past few days I was thinking of taking a break and actually go inwards to find the real reason for my "busy" stressed mind. But it could be something we all feel. You know.

I'm so happy to see you all in better spirits in this video. It's wonderful that you received lots of encouragement from the folks watching and supporting you. We all go through slumps in life but having family and friends to encourage us makes all the difference. Tara and John, my wife and I were absolutely gobsmacked when we heard you may be leaving you tube. We are in our 60s and can hardly wait for Sundays and Wednesdays to see what you have been doing, We’ve watched Crusoe and Sawyer growing up and they bring a huge smile to our faces. Maybe cut back to two episodes every other week? We get it. Raising two wonderful children and inviting us all into your lives can be overwhelming. Installing a fly screen door will keep the chickens (and insects) out. We have a beautiful wooden framed heritage-style fly screen door on our house (in Australia) that is spring loaded and closes itself. I'm sure John would be able to knock something beautiful together with no issue.

Putting a slide down from the deck to the trampoline would be cool. And consider making the steps longer at the top so they can be used to sit on as well when watching the kids playing. Love that you are both feeling more positive again ❤
Hi! Armando is teaching you how to braid onions. It's sort of like French braiding hair: take a dozen or so onions that still have their stalks attached, and, starting with three, gradually work more in as you go. The result is a beautiful, natural chain of onions. The word he used was "trança" which means braid.

Also, as someone who watches RUclips for more than a decade and now a RUclips also, I would never stop following someone I’m subscribed to simply because they would share less than before. I lived in Mozambique for one year on an assignment and learnt to speak Portuguese. Listening to Armando my Portuguese came back and I could understand him. That is a skill to braid the onions nice art and craft lesson for viewers. Yes in Africa they weave baskets, hats and lots of stuff that way. Your chickens feel at home and are very productive to sustain you. What a luxury to have freshly laid eggs everyday. I watched the Teepee episode few days back. Hilarious.

The chickens love you. Chickens are sweet animals.
We love you too. Tara, you express yourself so perfectly and beautifully. Someday you must write a story about your life on the farm so people in the future can enjoy your life as much as we do. I don’t mean to give you one more task. I am thinking of the years after the children are grown and gone and you are spending time in your favorite chair remembering your life.
A good lesson for us all.....every so often, take time to assess your life and make changes if needed before it's too late!

Armando also recommended to pick the onions with the “rama”. He is referring to the “onion branch” or “onion stalk” (I don’t know how to translate).

Great news all around! Just a bit of advice regarding what will be a beautiful outdoor kitchen and seating area!… where wood touches earth it will rot. I know you don’t want to pour concrete, so a good option is to char the wood (shou shugi ban) so that it has a protective layer. It would be a shame to have to rebuild what I’m sure will be a gorgeous space in a year or two!

We have had chickens a few decades in the coop if you can get barn lime put a good layer covering the floor it helps kill bad things chickens get. Then a good 4-6 inches of saw dust and chips. The droppings will dry in the saw dust and flake down to the lime which will kill bacteria. Once a year sweep it out and replace it otherwise just add saw dust to keep a good depth. The stuff you clean out is good around plants that like wood chips. Your young man is smart hanging out with the pretty women. You have a beautiful family and a lovely home. Stay safe and healthy.

I have a story you will enjoy. My gran had chickens. One, Henrietta Cluck-Cluck, used to roll her egg up the path to exchange it for corn from my gran. The dog tried it, got to the door, and barked so my gran knew he was there. Of course, he had to drop the egg to bark. It was not a success! Lol!
