- This is the team Allen Iverson expected to
see before the season started.
Iverson scored 38 points and Derrick Coleman added 18 points and
nine rebounds, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 96-91 victory
over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.
The Sixers have won 11 of 15 this month to get back in the
playoff race. The defending Eastern Conference champions are 23-22,
seven games behind New Jersey in the Atlantic Division.
"We're just coming together as a team," Iverson said. "We're
understanding where we need to be on the floor. We understand how
to win with each other. This team is so much different than last
year. Last year we could be 10 points behind with two, three
minutes left and we just knew we'd win. We just have to get that
fight like last year. The new guys want to get that fight because
they don't want to be a loose link."
Dikembe Mutombo's putback of a miss by Eric Snow broke an 88-88
tie with 56.4 seconds left and Iverson hit a long jumper to make it
92-88 with 29.4 remaining. Iverson then iced it with a pair of free
throws.
Wally Szczerbiak had 31 points and Kevin Garnett added 18 points
and nine rebounds for Minnesota, which has lost four of five after
winning 11 of 12. The T-Wolves missed a chance to move into a tie
with Dallas for first place in the Midwest Division.
"We need to go back to the way we were playing three, four
weeks ago," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said.
The T-Wolves were coming off an embarrassing 33-point loss to
Cleveland, which had lost 12 straight before beating the
Timberwolves on Tuesday. But they started fast and led most of the
first half.
The Sixers then outscored Minnesota 16-6 to close the second
quarter and take a 52-43 halftime lead.
"We were hungry after the loss last night," Garnett said. "We
didn't make the plays like we're supposed to."
After wasting a 12-point, third-quarter lead, the Sixers tied it
at 77 on a pair of free throws by Coleman midway through the
fourth. But Anthony Peeler hit a 3-pointer to make it 80-79.
The teams traded baskets until Mutombo tipped in Snow's missed
layup to give the Sixers a 90-88 lead in the final minute. After
Rasho Nesterovic missed a runner, Iverson hit a long jumper to put
it away.
"We're winning some close games now," said Matt Harpring, who
had 16 points and nine boards. "When it comes down to the final
minutes in tough games, we're making shots and obviously we need to
do that if we're going to be a playoff team."
Szczerbiak, who had a season-low three points Tuesday night,
scored 16 in the first quarter.
Minnesota, which trailed by 12 midway through the third quarter,
outscored the Sixers 21-8 to take a 70-69 lead heading into the
fourth.
"It's frustrating to come up short," Szczerbiak said. "We
need to step up and not allow it."
Just five Sixers remain from the team that lost to the Los
Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals last year. Philadelphia opened the
season with five straight losses, dropped seven in a row at one
point, and just got back to the .500 mark last week for the first
time since early December.
"We're playing a lot better than we were," Iverson said. "We
were so unfamiliar with each other and guys were hurt, too.
Hopefully, when we get everyone back together practicing, our
chemistry will be a lot better."
Game notes
Sixers guard Aaron McKie missed his third consecutive game with
a left ankle and Achilles tendon strain. McKie has missed 11 games
this season after sitting out seven the previous six seasons. ... The
Timberwolves are 24-2 when they hold opponents under 100 points.
... The Sixers are 13-7 this season when Iverson scores 30 or more.
... Philadelphia scored a season-low 71 points in a loss to the
Knicks on Tuesday. ... Nesterovic had 12 points and 12 rebounds. - Спорт
I miss this era fuck man.
Fam, me too. Seems like yesterday when the A5's were first released. I'm feeling old now. 😭
I feel like these two would be monstrous in today's era. The 90's definitely had some legends with heart.
AI was a certified basketball assassin, he would dominate in modern era. KG too, both of them were unicorns back then, they were the prototypes of actual players

He’d average 50 easily today. Easily.
@@markduenas4783 he couldn't even avg more than 33ppg when he played 60-70 games, he would never avg 50ppg no matter who was on his team
@@keeptahoeblue7496 He'd still get 35-37ppg in this weak no defense playin era.....
@@brandonethereal1084 no he wouldn't avg 35ppg but he'd fit right in to this garbage league. This is the ball hog, PG dribbling, shot jacking league and he would love it.... But he's super overrated and today's NBA is horse manure
Just watched KGs Number retirement. Lovely to see Ray ray there. Thanks for the classic vids
KG and Ai both of them is same energy and exciting to watch..
They don’t even say heart no more . They’ll just say “yeah he’s a good guy”
True statement.
They don't make em like Gen X anymore, bro.
Ahhh nostalgia. MN born and raised
Man sometimes I watch 2002 Philly games just to see A.I wear the A5’s ! Them Mfs raw with the black & sliver front 🔥
One of my all time favorites.
Thank you for the post.
the announcer was hating smh
That’s Klay Thompson’s dad Michael Thompson!!
And it’s the Minnesota Timberwolves announcer because he was drafted number one pick back in the early 80s something like that but he came out of Minnesota Klay Thompson’s dad. So at that time it was only right for him to get a job in Minnesota. Until his dream came true and now he’s an announcer for the Los Angeles Lakers and the best franchise in sports history. Where we bleed purple and gold lol have a good day
Yeah, that dude is a scrub. One of those roleplayers who never was the focus of a team hating on an all-star. Dude is a joke.
Heavy too
Yeah fuck dude .....and Iverson iced the game
This season was really tough for AI. After coming from his MVP season (and by the way one of the greatest seasons ever, especially considering how he carried his team to the finals with clutch games against Raptors and Bucks) he had to deal with the loss of one of his closest friends. Despite that, he still managed to perform quite well, he's really the Answer
Stern gave the Refs instructions to keep Iverson banged up and stats down as much as they could without drawing notice
Loved both them jerseys... a regular season game highly competitive...Funny how bad both teams are besides their lead guys
KG is in my top 5 Goat list along with AI, he always gives AI props, and says AI is still underrated.
most skilled? cause AI in the top 5 kinda trash
@@builderdog3875 Youre kind of on the wrong channel for trollin man, dont be mad at me cause I dont have the same overrated top 5 or top 10 list that is common mainstream these days bum, you can get the fuq on with that.
@@gangstagummybear3432 you have the most trash azz top 5 of all time.
@@keeptahoeblue7496 You have to be one heck of a troll to come to a page such as this and say such a thing, but just because I dont have a popular top 5 in no way makes my top 5 trash, atleast my top 5 didnt need multiple allstars to secure their place in greatness.
If KG and AI had went LeBron and made a super team in the East, it wouldve been them in the Finals vs San Antonia or Lakers for the entire decade...
First one in here
I always wanted to play and hustle like AI dude run nonstop but the thing is i always get fatigue so easily any tips to overcome this?
It stars with your nutrition than endurance train.
Strong core. This man could manipulate himself in the air effortlessly. You could definitely the see the football in his game.
@@SANTANA1deep Yup, strong core, and natural agility .
Run. Run a lot
If they can on a same team, unimafinable!
Damn AI
AI's layup package is unmatched & ungaurdable, its like he invented igh off the glass & high arching layups, he had to, he played in the era of giants.. his touch around the rim is better than MJ,. Kobe, & thats expected causew the dont have to lay up, Lets not forget his dominance was so great that the NBA, banned his iconic crossover, & then Implemented the 2-3 zone to stop his greatness, but why tho, why fight the man who carried the League on his back unofficially post jordan & pre Lebron & pre the Lebron vs Kobe media invention. The MSM media & the league simply ignored and downplayed his greatness until years of hyping others took effect & they replaced him.. Y cause the braids & tat's image & dress code..but now everybody has that see the karma..and all they do now is remember him for that like the dress code & culture is ther only thing did..The Jordan rules badboy defence did could not work on Ai, so the declareed open season on him & gave all teams the zone defense..then they learnt he's a shooter too & all round player & not a 1 trick pony crossover obsessed baller, recognize greatnes, he's not top 75, he's top 10
LMAO, top 10 what?!? No, he does not have a better anything than Jordan, he was a shot jacking ball hog, led the league in turnovers several times, and was a defensive liability about 80% of the time! Get real Iverson shouldn't even be top 50
I’ll admit, top 10 all time? If he won a championship.. that’s debatable as fuq but don’t act like the media didn’t try to make AI’s life miserable for him being himself. Also, he arguably should have atleast 1 dpoy but ukno.. he was unappreciated just enough
@@keeptahoeblue7496 He has alot better than Jordan, led a team to the finals that had no business being there, Jordan was a shot jacker too, ofcourse he led the league in turnovers bum, when you have to have the ball in your hand the whole time mostly, looking at Eric Snow to pass to for everytime you look up, ofcourse youll have high turnovers.
"shouldnt even be top 50?" any basketball player past or present that is NBA would laugh you into oblivion, youre a severe disgrace.
@@gangstagummybear3432 LMAO obviously you didn't watch the NBA in Iverson's time. He didn't lead anybody to the Finals, the refs rigged the ECF, Tim Donaghy testified under oath that those series were rigged
@@keeptahoeblue7496 if so, couldnt have been more rigged than the 02 finals, or the 06 finals
AI a underated basketball player probably #3 most skilled all time behind KD and Lebron
K.G.the man Who changed the GAME. ....
What?! He never even got to the level of the bigs of the 90s
@@keeptahoeblue7496 you are a serious bum
WTF was up with this announcer? All Individualism? Me Myself and Iverson? Is he a Philly home court commentator? They sound like they're rooting for Kevin Garnet more than the home town star... TF is wrong with him. Sounds like he was salty every time Iverson did anything. They're cheering for Minnesota but they're Philly commentators, smfh. AI got the scramble rebound towards the end, nothing said, he hit the shot to put them up by 4, nothing said... when he got the rebound and was walking to shoot the free throws at the end the announcer said "so close" like they was rooting for the away team smh... Iverson had to deal with a lot, hearing this commentary makes me respect his drive and perseverance even more than I already did and I respected it as much as possible. I just made more room because he couldn't hear them speaking but this is the energy that was around him, his own home commentators, wow. Iverson is my GOAT... I'd give him all the flowers if I could, than you AI for what you did for basketball and the culture. Anyway thanks for the upload... PennyCCW always coming through with the great archived Iverson footage 🙌🏾
Same
No they're Minnesota announcers, so what do you expect? The Philly announcers were Marc Zumoff and Steve Mix💯💯
Yeah right, big heart?!? If big heart means jacking up 33 shots and missing 19 of them then yeah, huge heart on Iverson! Iverson also led his team with 4 turnovers, shot a miserable 42% FG and went 0-4 from 3p line! If it wasn't for the refs bailing him out like they did in the ECF, he would've lost to this terrible Wolves team with no Cassell or Sprewell!! SMH y'all overrate Iverson so badly it's embarrassing to the sport
😂😂😂why are you here
