Maeve taking her frustrations out on Nicole, not so brilliant but they say you take it out on those you love. Maeve is in pain and scared and doesn't like being weak in front of Nicole. Unfortunately it's often the people closest to you who you lash out at in situations like this.
Sometimes we can be our worst self when we're with someone so close with us. And in many cases, oursider (in this case is a friend) can knock some sense to our head, not our family or lover. Hope Shorty means this way too.
