  • Sustainability is often labeled as a buzzword, but what about the unsustainable choices that persist? Consider the staggering average of 86 reported rape cases daily in India, the daunting 2.01 billion tons of harmful solid waste generated globally each year, or the 69.7% of the rural population still reliant on extortionist money lenders. How can this cycle be halted? When those making these decisions are detached from their repercussions, catalyzing change becomes a daunting task. Traditional methods of sharing knowledge have fallen short. It's time to forge new avenues, and Alekhya discovered an answer in dance. Alekhya’s passion is Bharatanatyam. Her dance journey started when she was just about 4. What started as fun, has become her biggest passion, her medium of expression and her favorite language of communication. Alekhya has 100+ performances to her credit. She has been choreographing and guiding her school shows since she was in Grade 7 and completed her Arangetram in August 2022. Alekhya is also trained in Visual Arts. But her passion is in painting on unusual surfaces, using various mediums. She loves to create beautiful artifacts from throw-away items like dried leaves, pebbles, old pots and pans etc. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
