@JohnHadley13 well they already laid out the foundation for microtransactions in the game, in case you missed it. I know Diablo 2 definitely could benefit from some updates but I do not trust Activision Blizzard to innovate for the life of them. So while I get your point, I don't think it's a realistic prospect to expect any such things to come out great from Blizzard. It's more likely they'll screw up the game completely.
Updating D2 is best left to fans who actually care and actually know about the series, so mods are your best bet. Who knows, maybe Project D2 will come to D2R some day. 🤞
I would love an Act 4 Warlock mercenary
Play pd2 instead of only 3 items per slot being decent for endgame you have about 5000. And a act 4 caster merc :) unfortunately I can’t even go back to d2r to try this cool new class because the game is just light years behind pd2

You're also assuming that he is playing on a PC, PD2 isn't available for consoles.
You're also assuming that everyone is willing to first put up with the hassle of looking up how to buy the old D2 because Blizz has hidden it pretty well, install it, then download and install, and then set up PD2, and to also put up with the graphics.
So, in the same, somewhat snobby and elitist spirit as you advised OP, I will retort that you absolutely can go and try out the new class, there's nothing stopping you, as D2R isn't light years behind PD2, that's just you claiming it is.

The fact you've been involved in the creative process actually makes me inclined to support this expansion.
I'm more on the fence about it due to that, LamaSC is good, but his entire playstyle and mindset is oriented towards streaming, mostly as a speedrunner type guy which I personally don't care for.
A lot of this content seems to really cater to the whole 'I need to stream this for content and need a class that can do everything, loot filters to streamline things, targetable terror zones to streamline farms, etc...' vibe. The fact we have to make a choice to pay 25$ to get all or any of the other changes even if we don't care for the class is typical blizz dark patterning unfortunately.
If anything I'm actually happy they didn't change the core game in worse ways, because the way this was teased I was half ready to see loot pets or paid skins or collabs with mountain dew or other garbage like that...
@CalgarGTX Dont get me wrong, i am not supporting it and will not be spending $40 AU on it. But i am more inclined to. I agree with you. To add quality of life stuff that should have always been there, lump it in with a new class to bait everyone into spending more money rather than just do the right thing is exactly why i detest blizzard. But Llama has been positive for the D2 community as a whole so good for him

I feel for 24.99 they could have offered more. They charged you 10$ just for the necro in d3. Feels like they could of at least added more to Act4 if not another Merc and/or Balances to the current Mercs. Balances to items.
Akt 6 which is about the Warlock would be cool, add new monsters to the game too etc. a bit pricy yes but still an update with new cool stuff
He ends the video with hopes for more updates to come and the devs mentioned there is more coming our way. If that means more updates (as a part of this paid upgrades) to expand this new version of D2R it will be a better deal. Especially when there is a sale

@multi-florumI use to play this with my father and it’s one of the few good memories I have with him. At least it was thanks to him I got into Diablo or ARPG gaming.
20 years later we have a new class and even cosmetics in Diablo 2. Did you know that? Most know about the class but not the cosmetics. There insanely rare and you have to earn them. But there’s 3 you can get. A special aura for your character, foot print cosmetics that make you leave glowing radiance, and finally a special type of town portal that is a different color and also shows runes around it.
I’m excited about a new full class set to build around. I like that challenge.
Is anyone else having issues with items not showing when you hover the mouse cursor over them and items on the ground being black and almost impossible to see?

Crazy to not use this opportunity to fix melee in d2r and the disparity between melee and spells
They did the opposite, so far all these changes made casters even more stronger than before
@petronettonot only that, but made the eldritch tree everything barb has ever wanted. All the melee skills have massive AOE and huge attack rating boosts and also split damage between physical and magic the strongest possible thing in the game.

They've eliminated classic mode for the Warlock update, it will still be there in regular Diablo 2 Resurrected, but if you port a character over you cannot go back.

This is all great. I just wish there was some form of cleaving added for single target melee builds like zealers, smiters, frenzy barbs, fury druids, stuff like that. Like some end game thing idk. Kinda feels like those builds are left in the dirt again
Let's hope that this just is the beginning of new content and that they will keep adding balancing and content updates. On top of your suggestion I'd also like to see the ability to corrupt items like in PoE and PD2. That would add so much more depth to it.
@M00nlordAgree altho i think they should put a d2 spin on it. Idk what that would be but some item modification mechanic with a chance of winning or losing is needed
I think a good alternative if the goal was to keep melee a unique identity, would be to increase single-target damage. Make melee gooder bossers and add some utility, like giving charge chance to stun (with an aoe effect), etc. Something thematically appropriate. There does come a point where (and I love PoE, but) we hit a point where melee starts to feel like magic with the extra difficulty of finding a good stat stick.
@nach4642 I agree 100%. What I meant when I listed those builds was something like what you mean with charge. And if they get some aoe I mean it like a basic cleave of about 2-3 tiles within the weapon range. And maybe add it onto skills at high/max levels like we see some effects on some of the Warlock skills. Like maybe have zeal have a 10-20% chance to cleave when it is lvl 15-20 or something. This way you have to invest into the skill so it gets to be "aoe". I don't really like melee in PoE as yeah with the +to skill aoe it gets to rediculous levels. I want to keep it in the spirit of Diablo 2
@punec I would love to see a two handed throwing axe (like Franks UU in AoE2 if you know that), that does pass through damage like java skills.
So far it looks like existing op classes get more op (hammerdin - how many items with % magic dmg or -% magic resist wtf!) while classes like barb don't seem to get anything to close the gap. disappointing - if these chages are all there is
Barb has Berserk though and would these -magic items.
I think the other magic DMG characters are only getting stronger by side effect of the warlock needing those things. Almost ALL of the items are meant for warlock buy they can be used on other characters like hdin and bone necro and stuff
It definitely would've been better if they rebalanced existing uniques to catch up with all those cheap and op runewords. They put a lot of focus on the new character, but what about a Necro who finds an unique lich wand? It still gets outclassed by White on a +3 bone spear wand. That's quite disappointing if they don't announce some balancing later on.
Sing barb should benefit from this, right?
The different set bonuses from the warlock set depending on the 2 3 or 4 peice break down might be better the you think for a few melee builds. Lvl 30 enchant maybe 350 enhanced damage maybe less but some added.
Could you possibly make a video on the issue a lot of people are having problems, after buying the new upgrade the game didn’t load says it is in my library but when you put the mouse cursor on library it shows a red circle with a line through it, and now I can’t even play d2r now any help would be appreciated

quick question has the drop chance of the other ledgendarys been upped? i am sick and F,ing tired of my grind for king leorics arm on single player.
I doubt it. The only complaint I’ve ever had about this game was drop rates being so low and that there can be so much variance in rolls on certain uniques that getting them to drop feels exasperating rather than exciting and it makes trying out other builds just way too time consuming. I don’t mind a grind but Diablo 2 grind isn’t just soul crushing. Game is by far my favorite regardless because it’s just really fun and replayable.

@ryu-ken I agree the boots/legend sword have a ton of use cases, the rings and ammy might have some use cases on builds like FoH with all the magic damage amp.

TL:DR, set boots are great and new jewels are nice but can only use one. You'll still probably be using Pre-warlock gear anyway.

It is if you’re a fan of the game lol. The fact we are getting any new content after like 20 years is insane. And it’s not just a new class. The class came with a whole new selection of unique items to get and set items as well.
On top of that it added new quality of life changes to the game such as new stash tabs for gems and runes and crafting materials and extra shared ones.
There’s even a chronicle for keeping track of unique and set items you collect or runewords you create which also awards you special cosmetic looks for your character which is something Diablo 2 never did or had.
You also forget this dlc is not just for Diablo 2. When you buy it you also get the class and things for Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4. There all combined together within the one purchase. So it’s definitely worth it
