If you were my English teacher I'd have such a much easier time with reading Poe's work😭!
For real lol but Im glad I do understand my English teacher she nice! And also explains well
Every time I read this verse, it still guts me. Anyone who has, at a young age, experienced a deeply pure & naive love will understand why. ♡
" I was a child, and she was a child in this Kingdom by the sea, but we loved with a love that was more than love, I and my Annabel Lee."
Thank you so much. My son and I watched this to study for his Annabel test tomorrow and he said he wishes you were his teacher!
You are so kind! I hope the exam went well!
all the night tide refers to his longing for his lost love. This is on e of my favorite poems from poe
It along with "The Raven" have become my absolute favorite pieces of literature outside of the Bible, since my wife passed away. I always liked these two poems, now I comprehend them, now I feel them, now live them. Thank you for this video. Both "Anabelle Lee" and the "Raven" cause me great pain. Yet, instead of running away from it, I am strangely drawn to it, as if the pain also brings the pleasure of her memory to mind. Even though the moon beams and stars rise, I can not ignore the "nevermore".
This poem and the Haunted Palace are my favorite poems from Poe. In college years ago, I did a project in which I recited Annabel Lee to the instrumental version of We Have All the Time In the World from On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The class was stunned, especially how the music matched the poem. Got an A in the class. I was going to do the Haunted Palace to Thunderball but felt Annabel Lee was a better choice.
I found this very helpful, thank you!
This is great! I really enjoyed your analysis of this

So, you get the chills because when you shiver your body temperature rises, causing a fever, which is your body's way of fighting infection. I went through this when I had pneumonia a couple of months ago, it was awful! You also shiver when you're cold, which is the body trying to warm itself up.
Yikes, I'm glad you're doing better! Also, thank you for explaining that!
thanks! :D
Can you do an analysis and mention the poetic devices on the poem lycidas and ode to the Skylark?
Thank's Carrie for your analysis :) What if Annabel is Leviathan? What with the covetousness and folly of youth and all...
I haven’t heard it interpreted that way before, but that’s an interesting way to think of it!
Okay that is what i was looking for thank you so much. 🦦
I hope it helps! Thanks for watching!
@@CarrieHoover i have a question, did edgar wrote the annabel lee to his wife? I mean is annabel lee his real wife? If it so why there is a broke up story in the poem, arent they married anyway ?
And also, he says i was a child she was a child but when they married edgar was not child at all even there is a huge age gap between them so its not a childhood crush situation right ?
@@bugrakaya1868 Annabel Lee isn’t a real person, it was just a product or made up name. But Poe mentioned her childhood sweetheart saying they were the inspiration. It’s kinda intriguing
@@cashew2538 yeah i know annabel is not a real person but i couldn't clearly understand if this poem devote to his wife or not.
Intellegent thing to do

Ongelooflik! Please visit the Raven it's beautiful in everyway. A man loving a woman so deeply.
who s damn lucky in the goings,,, only walls can see the beauty of her, Heavens are adjacent to her cottage, but dewellers enjoy stning beauty of her, from above,,
Isabell shows kindness to destitues,,
lets drown our ship to be one,,,
Perhaps I catch a kind sight of her eye,,,, Perhaps Isabell may cast a spell of immortality,,,

Thank you. It's a great poem. 👏 Have you read my poem yet?
I think it was he’s wife that died of tuberculosis not he’s mother

They “chilled” her…..she didn’t love him anymore.
You've completely missed the genius and the glory of this poem. Poe was something of a trickster, and, having seen the darker side of 19th century America, he wasn't above poking fun at the Romantic fervor that had so captivated the elitist authors and literati of the time. The sing-songy rhythm lulls us into a fairytale setting about eternal love and devotion. . . as he proceeds to accurately describe a descent into madness with symptoms whose pathologies had not even been named yet. Look for them, and you'll find -- Delusions of grandeur, projection, obsession/compulsion, persecution complex, inferiority complex, paranoia, and perhaps a couple others. The meter moves from sadly slow to frantically accelerated a couple of times -- a nod to what we now call manic depression. The nighttime references refer to lunacy (derived from the word lunar), because people then (and now) have noted more insane behavior during full moons. Finally, he clearly says he lies down by Annabelle Lee IN her tomb. Necrophilia means an unhealthy love of the dead, not necessarily sex with a corpse. But this lovely little ditty that well-bred young men and women undoubtedly wept over all unawares is ultimately a poem about necrophilia. Well played, Mr. Poe. Well played!

wow that was bad
Kind of overly simplistic. No real insights here and I would have loved to see more of an appreciation of the poem.
"Annabel Lee" and "The Raven" were both written by Mathew Franklin Whittier, younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier, and falsely claimed in a sort of 19th-century identity theft by Edgar Allan Poe. My paper, "Evidence that Edgar Allan Poe Stole 'The Raven' from Mathew Franklin Whittier" explains. It is downloadable at the following link. It can also be found by searching on the title on Academia.edu.
