from being suspended from 10 games earlier this season, to allowing 10 runs in a game against the Mariners, to a perfect game, this has to be one of the most bizarre seasons for a pitcher in MLB history
There's a few journeyman that have a perfect game Has nothing to do with anything but that one day, that one game, nothing else before or after matters. This is why a perfect game is special.
There's just something so special about seeing an entire team celebrate a seemingly individual accomplishment. I realize it's a team effort obviously but it just makes me happy to see how happy everyone gets for the pitcher (and catcher) haha. Awesome stuff
Outfield and infield have to make some tough defensive plays to keep the perfect game alive sometimes they understandably celebrate and take pride in it too
No matter who you are, a perfect game is a combination of luck, excellent control, help from the defense, and finally more luck. Potentially the closest anyone got to doing it all themselves was Kerry Wood's 20 strikeout game. Even though he took care of 20 of the 27 outs himself (with the help of a good catcher and good scouting) he still needed help with the other 7 outs and could've used a little more luck to get that perfect game instead of the 1-hitter. Nolan Ryan, when on his game, was as dominant as any pitcher has ever been... and out of 7 no-hitters has no perfect games. Randy Johnson, who is arguably better than Ryan, has only 2 no-hitters... one of which is a perfect game. The last one I'll mention is Greg Maddux, who in my opinion is the best pitcher of the last 50 years. With 17 15+ win seasons, 355 wins (more than any modern pitcher, although Clemens was a close 2nd at 354), god-like control, and a propensity for throwing sub 100 pitch complete games, he has exactly zero no hitters. The perect game definitely favors the power pitcher, but it still takes a team to get there.
I always love the fact that when a pitcher is throwing a perfect game the crowd becomes a home town crowd even if it’s an away game. Even the fans want to be a positive part of history.
This happened at Oakland which has the lowest attendance of any mlb stadium. There was a bit more people at the game since the Yankees were in town. So the majority of the fans were there for the Yankees. And also A’s fans don’t really have much to root for so a PG is really cool no matter what.

With Higgy giving him encouragement during the game, the pitching coach keeping him on task during the game, the hugs and support from everyone after, this was a team win. Not a Yankees fan, but I really hope this pulls that clubhouse together a bit. In a sport of individual performances, it takes a true team to make it to the playoffs

One of the best breakdowns of a perfect game, highlighted strategy, emotions, and everything about the celebrations was just phenomenal. I would love to see Jomboy go back and do the same for some historic perfect games in the offseason: Wells, Cone, Johnson, Cain, Hernandez, and Halladay for sure. Catfish Hunter's would be cool to see too. Cain had one of the most dominant perfect games ever and will most likely be the only pitcher to score a run in the same game. Johnson is probably one of the most dominant pitchers ever. Wells' and Cone's were during the historically great 90's Yankees. Thank you Jomboy for your unique perception of baseball.

A fantastic breakdown of all the bits and bobs that make a perfect game happen. Probably the only person to catch all the smallest moments in the dugout that really pull this together
4:16 he most certainly did not want that curveball anywhere near the inside and high. Based on the situation and the positioning of the catcher, he wanted that ball to start in the zone low and away and then dip into the dirt. It was a terrible pitch but he had so masterfully confused the hitter with 4 perfect pitches beforehand that he got away with it. Even the ball had been a perfect pitch because everything had made the hitter absolutely terrified of that low-outside corner, setting up the curveball.
Love, love, love this breakdown. Going to watch it a few more times. I have been collecting Perfect Game pitchers for over ten years and have a card for their year of accomplishment for every player in the modern era. The collection continues to grow slowly. Big props to Domingo.
Domingo was the definition of dope!!! Judge’s homer breaking and Domingo’s perfect game makes me proud to have start watching them last season. We also won 11-0 so overall, very satisfying game.
@aarong9128 Yankee haters are the most insufferable losers in sports. You’d probably prefer the Yankees never win again than have your own team ever win the World Series.
A masterful breakdown as always. Baseball is a weird, fantastic, confusing game and I love it. Players like Steve Carlton and Nolan Ryan could never get the perfecto, yet players like Charlie Robertson and Dallas Braden could. That isn't shitting on their achievement whatsoever, a perfect game is a jadeite in a pile of coal, and they deserve it all. Gotta also give Domingo Germán a MASSIVE congratulations too. Welcome to forever, buddy. Enjoy it, bask in it, be molded by it.
love baseball, knew very little about it. knew nothing about pitching, you teach me; knew nothing about catching, you give catchers a good spotlight and you teach me. i remember when gary was catching, you highlighted how he gives pitchers props and reactions after pitches. you do this sport justice. very grateful. go yanks!
I was lucky enough to be 4th row 3rd base and get there early and man Domingo and Higgy just had it during warm ups. Never thought this would happen but so glad to be there and witness this live!
Something I find interesting is that besides that one play by Rizzo at 1st base German's pitches kept the hits down to routine ground balls and pop-ups. And that meant no close calls needing review, IIRC. I'll bet some of the other 23 involved several big plays by the defense.
As a Mets fan I find it hard to see anything worthwhile in the Yankees, but man was this an excellent breakdown Jomboy. I almost got emotional. You captured it all very well.
German needed this and Higgy deserves it. One pitcher who battled back and a catcher who's an unsung behind the scenes hero. Not only did I watch history but as a fan I felt apart of it.
I feel like I learned so much from this breakdown. So many things I missed, so much got pointed out to me. What a joy to experience it again. P.S. Boone looks like he's happy dad crying on the inside.
Since you asked - translators change written words from one language to another and interpreters change spoken words from one language to another. I’m sure his coach does both, but he’s primarily an interpreter in this role 🤓
Great Breakdown! When I heard that it was the 9th inning of a perfect game, I went to the MLB site and was fortunate enough to catch the final 3 outs. Amazing! As an aside...I love the Shadyrays glasses. I went back and bought two more!
He averaged 11 pitches per inning and 3.6 pitches per batter. You can't call them hitters because none of them did in this game!! That means he relied on his defense tremendously. That is not just his victory it was (cheesy moment) a team perfect game.
@wifehaver6973 and let's be honest...your a lakers fan and should understand that routine plays aren't always for sure. ruclips.net/user/shortsLiIqqPTKrGI?feature=share
@wifehaver6973 they are ranked 24th in the league in errors per game and Oakland is ranked 26th. So it's more impressive that they didn't have an error.
Love how Jimmy made this video into a heartfelt film production. The Boone embrace, Judge embrace, Garrett arm around the shoulder and eye contact, and of course the final shot of the film: ball being held high in the air 😂😂
not really. below average break and spin rate. his control makes up for that however so he can place the hanger anywhere and get the batter offbalance.

It almost makes me emotional to witness such a profound achievement. Maybe that’s just the kid in me, but… “How can you not be romantic about baseball?”
Most impressive indeed, even if it’s again the ‘23 A’s - even if it’s against a historically bad team, takes nothing away from the accomplishment. Hasn’t happened in 11 years for a reason!

4:29 this has to be one of the most impressive matchups of the game. His curveball looked absolutely awful 2 pitches in a row to start and the hitter very properly figured Gérman would have to come at him with fastballs. It took absolute guts to throw two curveballs with the count 3-1 and a perfect game on the line. It's too bad this perfect game happened to occur against the worst team in MLB history.
Honsestly that at-bat was incredible. Fortunately history will probably not add an asterisk to this game. We have a tendency to remember the pitcher and not so much the opponent

Perfect game.
Nobody does a more thorough breakdown than Jomboy Media. These dudes even breakdown all the hugs and im here for it!
Felicidades a Domingo Germán y a toda la HNA hermandad de dominicana viva el béisbol y este momento es único para la historia
Astros owns you.
@aarong9128 Yankee haters are the most insufferable losers in sports. You’d probably prefer the Yankees never win again than have your own team ever win the World Series.
Its amazing what the catcher hype does for the guy on the mound. Loved hypin up a solid pitch
And then you have a complete mediocrity like Philip Humber in 2012. Sometimes luck is a big part of it.
@@robertshonk518 not to mention playing against a soft target
@@NoPrefecteven if it is a soft target, they’re still a pro team with players that can win 1/4 of their games
love baseball, knew very little about it. knew nothing about pitching, you teach me; knew nothing about catching, you give catchers a good spotlight and you teach me. i remember when gary was catching, you highlighted how he gives pitchers props and reactions after pitches. you do this sport justice. very grateful. go yanks!
Incredible feat. It sucks that it was Germán in a way with his past scandals off the field but he pitched incredible and Higgy called an amazing game.
congrats to him, im happy for em.. especially with the uncle situation. such a cool moment
Interpreter is for speech, translator is for text.
Thank you for all your hard work making these breakdowns!
I was lucky enough to be 4th row 3rd base and get there early and man Domingo and Higgy just had it during warm ups. Never thought this would happen but so glad to be there and witness this live!
Legit best breakdown. You are a master Jomboy at your craft.
Shout out to Jomboy for structuring this video the way he did. So smart. Love it.
3:15 Domingo is doing the pitching strategy of RBI Baseball for the original Nintendo but in real life 🤣🤣
0:00 - 8:01
Also first perfect game with pitch clock now that I think about it
Beautiful. Congrats to German. Congrats to the whole team. Thanks for the breakdown, bud.
First breakdown that's brought a tear soooooo good
The recipe for a perfect game: good pitching, good defense, bad at bats.
Jim Joyce being at home
3:00- 3:05 is just perfect. Thank you for those little details.
Thanks for giving this the time it deserved.
Perfect! Lets Go!! AND Best hug breakdown ever. 😂
Congratulations to Higashioka for calling the perfect game. That is all.
Top-tier in-depth hug analysis jomboy
Love to see everyone so happy for him. No matter what happens with the rest of his career, his name will be in the history books.
Great Breakdown! When I heard that it was the 9th inning of a perfect game, I went to the MLB site and was fortunate enough to catch the final 3 outs. Amazing! As an aside...I love the Shadyrays glasses. I went back and bought two more!
Could you break down Keagan Akins Horrible extra inning outing against the reds and how he single handedly costed the Orioles the game
There is a link to submit requests in the description.
The celebration breakdown really made my day. I could watch you recap anything.
He averaged 11 pitches per inning and 3.6 pitches per batter. You can't call them hitters because none of them did in this game!! That means he relied on his defense tremendously. That is not just his victory it was (cheesy moment) a team perfect game.
Yeah but they were all routine plays no real crazy plays. But tbh this was against oakland
@@wifehaver6973 how many routine plays have heen errors?
@wifehaver6973 and let's be honest...your a lakers fan and should understand that routine plays aren't always for sure. ruclips.net/user/shortsLiIqqPTKrGI?feature=share
@@mainmanslim11 these are professionals. Better yet the Yankees defense
Judge calling guys out of the Dugout 😅
His curveball is a thing of beauty.
not really. below average break and spin rate. his control makes up for that however so he can place the hanger anywhere and get the batter offbalance.
Defense made some pretty good plays behind him as well. Welcome to forever, DG; hell of a performance! 🎉
Watching this game live was a gift. The fact that Ruocco and Nelson were on the call was awesome too, you guys always say Ruocco seems to get the craziest games 😂
Ahh, respect to the little guy in the back jumping up and down in a desperate attempt to be seen. My life story.
I’ve been waiting for this. Both my dad and a coworker of mine were at the game. And my dad is a lifelong Yankees fan, so he was thrilled to be there.
On the last play, I loved that Higi ran towards first to cover any potential error on first even though they were wining the game 11-0.
I wonder what substance he used on his hand this game.
Really great video!!!
Love the shots of the catcher dabbing him up all game.
Orgullo Dominicano 🇩🇴
4:29 Great Breakdown. Three curves _and then, ..._
Not afraid to throw a pitch in the dirt on a 2-1 to make 3-1.
_Then_ throws two more curves.
Mad Lad.
High expectations for this breakdown, Jomboy did not disappoint!
This is a good heartwarming video, I loved it from start to finish, not enough of these
Does it really count if it's against the 2023 A's?
Unfortunately yes
Yup. Cuz if it wasn’t so difficult then everyone would be doing it.
This is a all time epic breakdown of this perfect game !!!!!!
Lost in it all is how awesome this accomplishment is for Higgy. America's catcher.
He’s not even the best catcher on the Yankees
@@theedon501 he's the best catcher in America. Source: America
@@snickidy6947 why Yankee fans love higashioka? Lmao
@@theedon501 because he's been a consistently reliable backup catcher for us and in the system since 2008. He's had a 3 homer game, caught a no hitter and now caught a perfect game. What more could you want
@@snickidy6947 didn’t know he’s been with the club that long, makes sense.
You know I love a good hug breakdown.
But honestly I loved the pitch breakdowns and when he started loving the curveball. Great video!
Most impressive is that its the first perfect game in the pitch clock era
The post game hugs breakdown made me laugh out loud, that was great. 👍
The most impressive feat in all of sports. After those last few innings of crushing nerves and adrenaline- that last pitch has to be pure elation, a man truly on top of the world. It almost makes me emotional to witness such a profound achievement. Maybe that’s just the kid in me, but…
“How can you not be romantic about baseball?”
Most impressive indeed, even if it’s again the ‘23 A’s - even if it’s against a historically bad team, takes nothing away from the accomplishment. Hasn’t happened in 11 years for a reason!
Those 350 fans witnessed history.
Congrats to him. It’s even harder now with the pitch clock.
When the worst person you know of does something great
I don't know anything about this Domingo guy. Off-field stuff is problematic?
I love how salty people are over this
@@hoosierflatty6435 busted twice for foreign substances
and he's a wife-beater
If this is the worst person you know then you’ve lived a very sheltered life.
@hoosierflatty6435 people are just bitter because he beat his wife and got a 81 game suspension for it. This is America people it's okay to hit your wife, you will be celebrated.
Boston fan here to say congrats Domingo German in that perfect game 🎉😎 congrats to you from a fellow Dominican 🇩🇴 👏
Couldn't have happened to a better guy! The Chris Brown of the MLB!
jomboy giving a play by play on the hugs cracks me up
saved all the hits for his wife, what a considerate person!
I was scrolling down looking for the spicy comments, and this one slaps, just like Domingo German slaps his wife.
Let me ask you: do you think there is ever room for redemption of a person? Is a person permanently tarnished after a single act?
@@Blueshirt38 What did he do to earn redemption? Being good at baseball doesn't count.
@@GuffBrooking What does he need to do? It's not like he has still be going around acting a fool for the last 4 years.
I've heard the hug breakdown makes some people cry. Not me, but some people.
Why is that too bad? It doesn't diminish it in any way. Doesn't matter the team, perfect games are incredibly difficult.
you had a good point until you ruined it
Honsestly that at-bat was incredible. Fortunately history will probably not add an asterisk to this game. We have a tendency to remember the pitcher and not so much the opponent
@@Imugi007 I don't mean to take anything away from Gérman's masterful performance. He pitched with guts and he had excellent command of all his pitches.
