His name is King Vortigern, obviously he was a king. That's why his first helmet is a crown and a hood. Which I hate, why can't he wear a crown like most English kings did in battle
that one guy you’re not wrong. Just something I noticed. Like if you were a depressed, exiled sap you wouldn’t want to take the time to clean some armor that brought shame to yourself and faction.
The symbol on his armour has nothing to do with Phi, it is the symbol of the order the Sol Tenebris, or the Black Sun. You can see it on flags in harbour.
Gotta love how Bulwark could literally flip ANYTHING including Feats. Flipping a literal explosive catapult shot and taking NO damage or Flipping the Shaman across the map by Triggering bulwark as you accidentally shimmy onto a trap.
I main black prior. Use to main Lawbringer but the nerfed his shove and then black prior came along and I in a sense fell in love with the hero and move set
His face is disfigured or so I heard, his face has burnt marks, heard someone say that there are legends of noseless people from back then, and because this game is fantasy it could also be that
Remember that For honor is set in the 2000s something, and by the description of the era by apollyon in the campaing they didnt advance technologically because of the constant war, either betwen factions or inside each faction between its own clans. So aparently there were few or none who understood the way of improoving stuff (or they didnt live enough to improve it), so they just replicated these old tecnologies and made impractical modifications to it, or bizzare ones at that, (like the balista/catapults that every faction shared, or the balista that shoots bridges or whatever) its like they just stole what worked and made it theirs by applying some aestethic to it (guess this is why Warden doesnt have consistent armor and its just s mesh of metal and mail or something ha). This maybe why they have such impractical designs, and exagerated bodys at that, they literally live in some cadia like world where they only are born to fight and some of them might have kind of "evolved" to fit the enviroment of war, like Lawbros and Raiders maybe
@@Gaming_Legend2 The devs explained it a couple of times during the first months of it's release or so. I think it's still in the wiki and their page. Remember the FIRST For honor intro? (the one with Apollyon narrating?) That intro explains that after the Catastrophe came a milenia of War and ONLY war. So whatever year that was, the game is set 1.000 Years after that. maybe 2000s - 2200s.
This makes a lot of sense honestly, would explain how the minions, heros, commanders and guardians all vary in size, because people are quite literally evolving to become better suited for warfare
My favorite helmet is Erzabet's Valor, but only because it covers the neck and doesn't have a fur collar. I also use the Vasago arms because I don't like the demon on the full mail variants.
I know how you feel. If the made a full mail variant without the demons, that would be my favorite hands down. Also, yeah what's with Ubisoft putting a fur collar for every single helmet? It's the same fur collar too, just copy pasted with a different color. Disappointing to say the least, but I decided it wasn't important enough to say in the video.
@@GoGoDani I feel like I would've enjoyed the fur more if it wasn't so jarringly separated. Like there's nothing tethering it the helm and nothing tethering it to the chest pieces, it's just... there. Not to mention I just don't like being able to see my BP's neck. It works for like the Roman's because they often had that area exposed, but for a full knight, and a HEAVY class at that, it just felt... wrong
I always thought Black Prior's crown was a reference to historical "battle crowns" that would be welded to a kings helmet whenever he was leading his troops into battle. I can recall kings like Richard The Lionheart and Henry V being pictured wearing such a crown.
I have heard of people talking about these battle crowns but I haven't been able to find much in sources when it comes to these. The closes thing that I could think of when it comes to this is a sort of brass inlay around the circumference at the top of the helmet that's meant to look like a crown, but never an actually full circlet of metal like what an average crown would look like and not like what BP has.

That doesn't even include the multitude of hours in writing the script, finding pictures, doing research, and editing the footage. About the murmur helmet, it looks like he has Vitiligo. Sorry for the bad english btw, not my main language. Hope its at least understandable.
I thought he was heavily burn scarred underneath the mask, but it could definitely be leprosy. There is the Order of Saint Lazarus who fought while having leprosy.
I am not sure what the popular opinion is but the Erzbet's Valor Helm on release was far better than I could have ever asked for and loved it so much I never took it off literally after I got it it's just amazing, my ideal knight helmet. Then again, this is realism analysis lol

Look up Ferdinand II’s armor. That entire set is covered with engravings of demons. May or may not have ever seen practical usage given the owner was nobility, but point being demons on armor was definitely a thing at one point.
The largest depictions were on the rearward facing side too. That's really interesting. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I am definitely going to look more into this and why these design choices were made.
People who say For Honor isn't realistic as an argument when realism is brought up probably started playing late in the game's life. When the game was released it was obviously going for the realism crowd, with the murder-stroke being shown off in the trailer.
I mean even regardless of that, there are still conclusions to be drawn from just observing the game itself. There are things in the game that take heavy inspiration from history, even if the major premise of the game isn't completely realistic.
You probably know this but I think the reason the black prior wears light chest armour is because he has a shield which kind of compensates for it, but yeah I don't know man just thought I would mention it, nice video btw I appreciate you making realism analysis videos I'm glad someone takes this game remotely seriously I always mention the historical inaccuracies in the sword combat like why the hell do they never use the point of the sword?? Like I mean at least black prior has a thrusting attack but that's only from above, ah I'm straying of topic nice video man 👍
What bugs me is that Ubisoft spelt the name wrong It should be "Black Priar" Priar translates to Bible verse/hymm which makes 100% more sense then prior which roughly means something happening before an event
Prior, derived from the Latin for "earlier, first", (or prioress for nuns) is an ecclesiastical title for a superior, usually lower in rank than an abbot or abbess. Its earlier generic usage referred to any monastic superior.
Great Video, thanks man. One thing I'd like to see for BP, although I'm unsure of it's historical accuracy, is the coif helm King Arthur wears in Monty Python. It looks really cool in my opinion, and could give us less edge for BP depending on how Ubi does it.
Talks about the idea of people back then accepting eventual death - "That's more history than what we really need right now." i like how he says this even though he goes through hell and back to try and find historical similarities/differences for the armors and uses them to debunk the in-game armors because they're not completely historically accurate XD.
I enjoy the Queen's Pawn helmet due to the fact that it reminds me so much from Dark Souls, there was an NPC called Creighton who has a somewhat similar helmet, in game it's referred to as, "Creighton's mask"
For the helmets with horns you forgot to mention that the enemy can use the horns as a grappling point and can control black prior if he ends up in that situation
The armor sets such as Vassago, Murmur, Dantalion, Forcas, and Camio are all names of real Demons all of which have specific roles. This gives the Black Prior a more edgy feel and possibly more dark. Just a FYI if you look at the new armor set The Demonic Primordial, if you look at the chest piece on the left side are 3 Crosses on a hill but the hills are skulls. In the Bible it's related to Jesus and the 2 criminals he was crucified with. Again it's a more edgy look and the skulls obviously mean "death" The Dies Irae armor and shield is related to a Latin hymn that talks about Jesus's 2nd coming. Interesting fact: The name Apollyon is another Demon name and in For Honor she is basically Lucifer. Chaos, madness, and no peace. This game has a lot of references to real life and the Bible as well.
This is what I gather from Erzebet’s Valor: He is wearing a connected helmet face mask combo or a full helmet even, but the crown from which the hood is draped is a separate unit that goes over the helmet after it’s put on. I know that the upper helmet and the face plate look like they’re on different planes, implying that they’re two separate units, but I don’t think was the initial point of the concept. This could be a discrepancy between the concept artwork and the 3D modeling, maybe the result of two modelers working on the same piece at different times without great communication, or maybe just a mistake brought about by time constraints and the limitations of re-used assets. Shoot, I now see that the crown is actually connected to the helmet, so that discredits everything I just said.
I think the whole having more rust thing makes sense because the black priors basically came out of retirement. However that whole thing gets thrown in out when you look at how clean everything except his helmets is (as you pointed out)
The symbol on the pauldrons is the black prior order symbol, it represents a crossed out sun, thus expressing the order of the black priors crusade to bring darkness to the world
Hey man, been binge watching your vids lately, finally subscribed, I just wish that when you're talking about the armor you wouldn't spin as much, because as soon as you mention something, I have to wait for the model to spin around to see what you're talking about, specifically the greek symbol on the Camio's Legacy arms. Thanks, keep it up!
Talking about Erzebet's Valor helm i tried imagining that the mask and the head piece actually welded through each other with the hood piece in between them, like some screws that combine the mask and the headpiece itself *through* the cloth of the hood, so that the whole thing is a full piece, not three separate pieces on top of each other. That's the most logical thing I could think of to picture it being as practical as it could get.
to be fair on the Erzsebet's Valor helm the armor wasn't designed with combat in mind, Ubi explicitly stated the armor from Y4S1 was created as decoration for the Truce of Wyvrendale in the lore. this is also why the other armors from warden, LB, kensai, and the Wu-Lin are very flashy and colorful
That new helmet might be one item. Like, the cap is bolted to the mask with the hood in the middle. The bowl cap bolts the hood, and itself, to the mask, rendering it as a single piece of gear.
Coming from a blacksmith, the set up for the erzebet's valor helm is probably skullcap with a riveted face plate and the hood sandwiched in the middle separate from the rest of the outfit
The sacrementum mortis mask is most likely a reference to King Baldwin IV of Israel. He was diagnosed with leprosy when he was young and wore a mask to cover his face
The Queen's Palm helm reminds me a lot of a closed-off Greek helm. It's the eyes, curved back, and the sort of tapers towards the bottom of the front that give it this look. They made the front way flatter, and got rid of the massive angles though. It does remind me a lot of valk, also
The black prior has a lore of after being part of apolyons main army they went into dispear after apolyons defeat they went into the shadows but where called upon when their home castle/settlement and where called upon to take up arms so from that analogy this can be a reason for the rust on his armour.
From what I know of on the goods, Black Prior has a chain mail hood underneath... Though I doubt that makes much difference. Outside of this random stuff, thanks for the video!
I don't have any historical adjustments for hood either, but it can serve a purpose of keeping BP's bald head from sun and heat (I mean crusades and stuff, there's a desert there, so, maybe smth like that)
The only gripe I have with Erzebet's helm is that the cloth obscures a large part of the already crap visibility. It covered the wrong eye too! Since Vortiger holds his shield left arm and goes into full-black stance with the left side of his body forward. I.e.: he's looking directly into the cloth that's obscuring his vision. Edit: you talked about this point. I'm glad we're almost on the same line. Beyond that, it just looks cool. 8/10. Best crusader helmet for Vortrigger, but not best helm overall.
The erzebet helm seems to be having the hood come out of the crown part and the whole helmet is underneath as one piece. That’s what it looks like to me at least
I think the point of the rust was to show that the heroes were in constant fighting and did not have time to rest and take care of their armor (weapons seem to be different though at higher levels)
i may be wrong but the number 5 that makes the black priors symbol is because the battle the black prior was supposed to have fought in happened during season 5
I remember a tour guide in castle muiderslot (the Netherlands) saying something about using hoods to show that they aren't afraid and are very good fighters, though it was only a guide and years ago so might not be 100% correct
If Ubisoft doesn't think that realistic armor is what people want, they should make one set of armor in that style for every hero. Then they would see that the majority of players would wear them.
I'm looking forward to a Gladiator video as there were many different types and Ubi probably could make a game similar to for for Honor, just with the different types of Gladiators
The helmet with the cloak (forgot the name) would be the best helmet in my opinion if it wasn't for the damn ketle helm he has, the crown would still be good but then he has another helmet on top of his helmest which is under a cloak/hood.
Black Prior part 3 is out! If you want to vote for what hero you would like to see next, the poll will be on that video!

The more I watch these videos the more I look at my armor carefully and pick some decent pieces that make sense and are leveled up well.
Like I mean at least black prior has a thrusting attack but that's only from above, ah I'm straying of topic nice video man 👍
23:07 lawbringer: am I a joke to you?
What bugs me is that Ubisoft spelt the name wrong
It should be "Black Priar"
Priar translates to Bible verse/hymm which makes 100% more sense then prior which roughly means something happening before an event
Prior, derived from the Latin for "earlier, first", (or prioress for nuns) is an ecclesiastical title for a superior, usually lower in rank than an abbot or abbess. Its earlier generic usage referred to any monastic superior.
@@jalllaaavg
Ahh I figured they went with the usual definition of how prior is used
I still think Priar would fit the whole dark bishop/knight
Great Video, thanks man. One thing I'd like to see for BP, although I'm unsure of it's historical accuracy, is the coif helm King Arthur wears in Monty Python. It looks really cool in my opinion, and could give us less edge for BP depending on how Ubi does it.
It's not very realistic, but it would be much better than what we have right now, so I support it.
Talks about the idea of people back then accepting eventual death - "That's more history than what we really need right now."
i like how he says this even though he goes through hell and back to try and find historical similarities/differences for the armors and uses them to debunk the in-game armors because they're not completely historically accurate XD.
I enjoy the Queen's Pawn helmet due to the fact that it reminds me so much from Dark Souls, there was an NPC called Creighton who has a somewhat similar helmet, in game it's referred to as, "Creighton's mask"
For honor needs to hire you
For the helmets with horns you forgot to mention that the enemy can use the horns as a grappling point and can control black prior if he ends up in that situation
i mean
His armour still looks cool...
Good video my guy :)
I'm fairly certain the symbol on the shoulder plates is called tenebris sol from the black prior event.
Also keep in mind that the horns on helmets really just make grappling for your opponent easier
Dude Black Prior is so jacked it looks like he’s about to snap the belts holding his pauldrons in place
I love these 3am uploads definently subscribing lmao
Finally, someone who's as bothered as me about the coif situation!
This is what I gather from Erzebet’s Valor:
He is wearing a connected helmet face mask combo or a full helmet even, but the crown from which the hood is draped is a separate unit that goes over the helmet after it’s put on.
However that whole thing gets thrown in out when you look at how clean everything except his helmets is (as you pointed out)
"memento mori" (laughs in unus annus)
if ya get it ya get it
taking out the armpit is a really good way to disable the entire arm, even if you miss the arteries
You could definitely make a video about how For Honor has been getting less realistic ever since Marching Fire released! I see a lot of potential
Ghost that would be a good idea for his channel :D
Alabama man roasting a helmet for 4 minutes and 8 seconds straight.
That new helmet might be one item. Like, the cap is bolted to the mask with the hood in the middle.
The bowl cap bolts the hood, and itself, to the mask, rendering it as a single piece of gear.
Can´t wait for the Highlander Analysis!
Coming from a blacksmith, the set up for the erzebet's valor helm is probably skullcap with a riveted face plate and the hood sandwiched in the middle separate from the rest of the outfit
7:16 those helmets look amazing i want those in the game
They're peace keeper helmets
Torin Jones would look really good with bp
@@cksk101 but they are peacekeepers that's the point
The sacrementum mortis mask is most likely a reference to King Baldwin IV of Israel. He was diagnosed with leprosy when he was young and wore a mask to cover his face
Also about the Murmur Helm, i think that's bone powder, like Jörmungandr uses.
The average hot topic employee
Now that I watch this realize how much cooler a new helm where he wears a hood over his helm would look
(Steadfast Rock helm)
Lawbringer: I know your pain
The Queen's Palm helm reminds me a lot of a closed-off Greek helm. It's the eyes, curved back, and the sort of tapers towards the bottom of the front that give it this look. They made the front way flatter, and got rid of the massive angles though.
It does remind me a lot of valk, also
The black prior has a lore of after being part of apolyons main army they went into dispear after apolyons defeat they went into the shadows but where called upon when their home castle/settlement and where called upon to take up arms so from that analogy this can be a reason for the rust on his armour.
I don’t get ubisoft’s obsession with making ever piece of armour looking 1000 years old... so rusty
From what I know of on the goods, Black Prior has a chain mail hood underneath... Though I doubt that makes much difference. Outside of this random stuff, thanks for the video!
I don't have any historical adjustments for hood either, but it can serve a purpose of keeping BP's bald head from sun and heat (I mean crusades and stuff, there's a desert there, so, maybe smth like that)
0:30 WOOOO!!! LETS GO BP MAINS, THATS WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR
Erzebet helmets hood seems to not be full hood, it looks like it’s missing the top part and is basically pinned under the crown.
I want to believe that the black prior's basic helm is a reference to king Arthur's from monthly python's holy grail, but edgier.
Love these analysis tbh
12:00 Lemons!? We couldn't afford lemons; that's for rich folk.
The erzebet helm seems to be having the hood come out of the crown part and the whole helmet is underneath as one piece. That’s what it looks like to me at least
The only thing I could think from that thumbnail is bread boys
I think the point of the rust was to show that the heroes were in constant fighting and did not have time to rest and take care of their armor (weapons seem to be different though at higher levels)
The heretic crusader effect is what we should’ve had for BP on release
I like to think he's wearing a skullcap under his hood. Medieval people did that because larger helmets can be cumbersome.
i may be wrong but the number 5 that makes the black priors symbol is because the battle the black prior was supposed to have fought in happened during season 5
the edge is giving me cancer
What rep do I need to be with BP to have the helmet at 0:59
I had read that the masks could potentially be a reference to people with leprosy and the leper king
Danis real criticism is that there isnt enough edge for him.
The fi symbol is sol tenebris meaning dark sun which is supposed to be the first stage of all creation
The sacramentum mortis mask makes Vortiger into Voldemort
