The R8 V10 Plus is definitely a supercar. How is a mid-engine V10, 0-60 in the 2 second range, $200,000, 2-seater considered "almost-supercar"?? I swear Audi doesn't get the respect they deserve sometimes.
If Doug Demero considers it to be on the same level as a Lamborghini Huracan and a Ferrari 488 GTB and directly calls it an exotic supercar, I'd say it is.
Skylers Supercar Life not only is it on the same level, it is basically the exact same car mechanically as the huracan

Laferrari type car- hypercar

Yeah, I debated that with myself as well... McLaren calls this the Sports Series, and the 650/675 is their Super Series, and the R8 is close, but I don't consider the Porsche Turbos supercars, so if it competes with them, these aren't quite supercars... other times i think of these two as supercars.

Holy shit now. Every other proper driver who's reviewed these cars says the R8 gets old, while you could daily the 570S for years and not get bored.
I'll come back when Jodi and Craig do this review over.
Many haters and shit-talkers posting comments, so here's some honest feedback... both good and bad.
On the good side: Great couple of cars to review. Yes, they are expensive but not completely out of reach of someone who's made some good business decisions and the kids are now out of the house. Making entertaining and interesting car review videos is difficult, especially when the bar is set high by folks like the original top gear team, Carlos Lago at MT, and Chris Harris. Jonathan, you actually do fine in front of the camera.
On the bad side: The purpose of these cars is not driving them on the street. These are high-end track cars that happen to be street legal. With power to weight ratios of around 2.5 kilos per HP, we all know they are going to be quicker than nearly every other car on the road. Therefore this review is desperately in need of some track testing footage, preferably with a highly skilled driver at the wheel. At a minimum you needed a closed road with some high speed video. We got none of that!
As a result, what we're left with is a regular guy telling us things about these cars like seat comfort, steering wheel buttons, and outward visibility. All things we can see and hear at our local dealership or at a car show.
Sorry Jonathan but you didn't present anything that every single viewer didn't already know about both of these cars.
Hopefully you take this feedback seriously and work to improve the AutoGuide video review product.

This was a fun, entertaining review. I think it's unnecessary to reserve the title, 'supercar' such that these may only be referred to as 'almost supercars'. IMHO these are both pretty dang super. I respectfully disagree about the interior of the Audi being the better one. Maybe you saw or felt materials that seem better but in regard to beautiful and emotive design, McLaren amazes me with every detail. My favorite interior feature being those vents that look like turbine engines. So far, accounts of owners shelling out tens of thousands for out of warranty repairs on earlier McLaren, like the 12c have kept me away from them. But I hope to hear the 570s and other recent models prove more reliable so that their well known depreciation cycle can bring a 2017 model within a working man's reach in a couple more years.
These are definitely supercars…

The 570s looks happy and friendly p, the r8 looks like its gonna kill you. But i like both and my dream car is the 570s from when i came out.
If these 2 dont even qualify to be called supercars, then I don't know what to think.
Sound quality is really bad. Please fix this in future video's. Still enjoyed the video though. Keep it up.

Are you joking? The new R8 especially is a reskinned Huracàn and the 570S is as fast, if not faster than a 458 Italia. A benchmark when it came out. Its almost insulting not to call these two supercars

Magnum PI what are you smoking? ...mclarens are reliable cars and I'd certainly take one ( I wish) over a car that you can see over and over a day

They are supercars since weight-to-power ratio of those two cars are very near to 2.5kg/hp like Ferrari 458 Speciale and Huracan LP610-4.
This is what happens when you take your tech review format and try to apply it to cars.

If a P1 is a hypercar, then I would argue based on performance, that these make the cut for supercar.
Mclaren wins hands down. RWD, V8, light weight, more unique, and its orange.
justin bouche it also is fun on the track. I like it better than the 458 or Huracan with exception of the turbo lag. I just started punching it just before the apex to get the power coming out...otherwise it would lag on tight corners. The 458 can't decide which gear it wants to be in and the Huracan felt more like a daily driver. A really cool looking daily driver.

I don't know what is his guidelines, or how he defines it, price? Lap time? Acceleration? Top speed? Luxuriousness? You surely can't count on what mclaren have to name their own production line... they called 570s sport, but really it posts similar laptime on a track with 675. GTR is a super car, and this R8 accelerates faster than GTR
stopped watching after "impractical" and "almost super car" comments....i dont know about the Mclaren 570s but the R8 is one of the most practical supercars on the market. I had a 2012 R8 V8 as my daily car (and only car) for 3 years.....and im sorry but how the hell these two are not supercars?? im guessing just because they dont have a 300k+ price tag...

Something most journalists don't mention , fans of cars like this...is their true thoughts about potentially buying or owning a turbocharged car. And that is the lag time. Personally, I would find that annoying in a high dollar sports car. Even an affordable car. But more so if I was to spend upwards of $100k. To step on the gas only to have the car putter along for a few seconds while it spools up...then suddenly getting that rush of power...I'd find that annoying. For that reason alone I'd opt for the R8 in this case.
it's a shame that there are less and less naturally aspirated cars being made. Just a handful (e.g. Porsche 911 GT3, Lamborghini Huracan, Audi R8...umm...that's it? Just 3 cars???). :) Just 3 NA sports cars in this price range?? :) Every one else has gone TT or using a supercharger...and maybe the Aston Martin Vanquish S ...that is still naturally aspirated. If it isn't Aston Martin didn't mention (no photos of the Vanquish S engine...DB11 is using TT too now).

The R8 has a great engine and lovely to use everyday, very practical. But when you are spending this much money on a 2 seater sports car, is that really the most important thing???? As a result the Mclaren wins. It has to. It's more exotic, exciting, raucous and raw, nimble and light.

570s packs up FREAKING a lot for it's price..
... the Audi is a super car. However, the 570s is the best sport car currently on the market (not counting the 718 Boxter and Miata). If you want every day usability, go for the 570s. The Audi is great, but it's not every day good. Super cars are not good "every day" cars. Sport cars are better on the road (non-track)

I believe you can lease a mclaren via their own financial services. I think they use Ally. Lease would restrict the miles you get to use though. Hope that helps!

Jesus H Medrano Lol you are WOEFULLY misinformed. You're thinking of stereotypes from 15-20 years ago. Today's German cars, specifically cars like Audi which are owned by VW-Group, are EXTREMELY reliable. Consumer Reports just listed their reliability index for this year, and Audi was in 2nd place (only behind Tesla). Porsche was #3.
David T. sorry but i speak from experience not information. last time i tried to buy a mercedes was in 2008 car never made it out of the dealer because of a check engine light.they replaced 2 sensors and stil cluldnt fix it. ended up buying a is350, now if am gonna base it on my cousins and uncles lets just put it this way the all have japanese cara because they wer tired of the stupid glitches and trips to the dealers and this wer new cars 2008 and up.
Jesus H Medrano 2008 is almost a decade ago... A lot has changed since then. I'm on my second VW, my father owns 2 BMWs, and my mom owns a Mercedes. All these cars have been nothing but reliable and have had no issues. You're speaking of problems that just don't exist anymore.

Audi looks like an average ladies TT, interior looks generic, basically a boring sports car at best. McLaren looks like a hyper car, with a super cool practical interior, easily the best in it's class.

If I was a billionaire and lived on the track then I'd take the McLaren toy. But since I'm just a poor millionaire who has to consider things like repair bills, reliability, and daily-drivability I'll take the R8 any day. The R8 sounds so much better and is a much better all-around car where as the McLaren really is only good for the track -- horrible and clunky at low speeds.
Mclaren wins trust me I own one there is no comparison for every situation.

Some don't like the rear of it, but the R8 looks like a Bugatti/AudiTT hybrid it just doesn't look nice, it's not a car that people would stare at the most if it was driving down a street together with the 570s.
Victor K personally i dont even like the front of the 570s. However i do like the r8 but i can see why some might not be fond of it.
