    Hairston's were a huge family in Patrick County, they held prominent positions. I did some research on the GWR snd it was an Infian waring path, only wide enough for walking. Thrn it widen for horses, then wagons etc

    I'm trying to research info on "Garmon". Looks to be Michael Garmon, my 4th Granddad had Garmon's Mill in Cabarrus, NC along the Rocky River. Scotch-Irish that came down the Wagon Road. If I lookup Midland, NC on wikipedia it shows that the 1864 map of NC shows a town called Garmon there as well.

    Do you see these names coming down the Great Wagon Road? Earlier, maybe 1740-1770, Caldwell, Stewart, coming down the road. Later (1780-1795), Sehorn, McClanahan, Collins, Cowan coming down the road.

    • @piedmonttrails
      @piedmonttrails  2 года назад

      Hi Lorna, Caldwell, Stewart, Cowan, Collins and McClanahan are all early surnames along the James River in Virginia. We held a live stream on this area several months ago and I mentioned many of these surnames. Cowan and Stewart are circa 1740 and earlier in this area.

    Hi, Carol, Thank you. I have been searching my ancestor David Lofland since 1986. My 4th great grandfather, Thomas Oliver (born in St. Mary's County, Maryland) was sent to live with him after his father died in about 1777. By that time, the history says David was in Loudon County, Virginia. But I am trying to learn more about David and I am lost! Can you suggest anything?
    An interesting note,Thomas Oliver's duty in the Revolutionary War was to march down to the Carolinas and bring back prisoners. He must have used this road. Because he enlisted at Frederick.
    All of these places are within about three hours today. Amazing.

      Kim, I'm sensing you are not sure if Lofland was living in Loudon County, Virginia. Do you have proof of him living there? If so, what is the timeframe of the last documented source?

I often wonder if they are essentially the same thing. Worthington often shows up as quite involved in communities and events of the day.
