This was pretty accurate. I think if there was a weapons pod and the shielding and phasers were stronger on the Sabre class it could be a possible replacement for the Reliant. I agree the winner for this round is the Klingons.
Hey Admiral.. hope dong well.. Love the thumbnail and the ship looks great.. I like it.. I notice also, the phasers of the Sabre are weak, and onto a Bird of Prey.. hmm . I do like the Sabre, and yes if had a weapons pod, has the room.. gosh, notice.. Has so much escape pods, and not much windows lol.. I wonder.. Love the battle Admiral.. This was a well match battle for sure!!!😊🖖
Absolutely. Disruptors fire heavy blasts of concentrated fire. I think that they gave that technology to the Romulans. Phasers can be cranked up, but they're usually weaker per shot. The alternate timeline Enterprise D cranked its phasers to molten hot. If they weren't protecting the Enterprise C, I think they would have won. As for this fight, I've never heard of the Sabre class, but it is a good design. I do like the Defiant class more, but both serve the same purpose.
The original Saber class is supposed to be an escort class but later specs is that it became a support ship used by Starfleet Corps of Engineering instead of a combat role. The aft section could easily be expanded to have the hangar bay instead of it being on the front which could be replaced with heavier weapons.
I love the Sabre class as well because of its rapid build/deployment time. I even designed a modification for the Sabre with a weapons pod; heavy forward ablative reactive tiles; and two underslung weapon cannons. I called it B.L.A.D.E. (Battle. Laminate. Assault. and Defense. Exoframe.) or (Battlespace. Logistic. and Area. Defense. Engagement.) Modification
Well, if I remember correctly, the Sabre class was meant to replace the Miranda class. That may have been the plan, initially. But, then the Dominion war happened and Starfleet was like, "We need cannon fodder. Get the Mirandas". I think it was also meant to work in concert with other ships like the Akira, Steamrunner, Norway and Defiant class starships.
The only thing I don’t visually like about the Saber class is how the dorsal phaser strips are perfectly straight and meet at a hard angle. I think that’s one of the only Starfleet ship that does that. I’d much prefer if the two main phaser strips were split into four, with a small gap where the current hard angle part is.
Bought the eaglemoss Sabre with the first contact fleet. I always felt like it was supposed to be on parity with the bird of prey. Also, I enjoy the detail of Borg inspired sensor pads on a lot of these ships. They at least look like Borg hull plating.
I'm not as knowledgeable as others here about individual ships or class types but I think a battle of the underdogs can be as entertaining and interesting as a battle of the titans.
Federation: Let's name one of our smallest ships after a type of blade --> Sabre class Remans: Let's name one of our biggest ships after a type of blade --> Scimitar (I hope not class, because if there's more than one the quadrant has a problem!) Klingons: Let's have more named melee weapons than all other major powers combined and also take more pride in fighting than anybody else, yet not name a single of our ship classes after them! Completely innocent request: How many Sabres does it take to beat a Scimitar ?
I see the *Saber Class* as a Torpedo Boat, like PT Boat or German E-boat. They are small and nimble, designed to deliver torpedoes and then evade. Good in packs but not best suited for going 1-on-1 with regular attack ships. It doesn't have the raw firepower of the BoP, Bug or Defiant. Best suited for attacks on enemy medium cruisers or destroyers in packs of 3-4 where you expect to lose probably 1 or 2 of them.
Awesome battle! So basically the Bop Stole all the popularity during the Dominion war as an amazing ship.... but... the Sabre.... Martok woul;d have died against a sabre... hahaha
The Saber's shields seem to be configured for lighter protection but greater recharge speed. This fits a hit and run attack style which the Saber relies upon (This would be great for prolonged battles against the Borg as the ship could break off to recharge the shields then return to combat over and over again). I estimate the shields are about as strong as a Nova class. The Saber also would be a good candidate for Starfleet Ablative armour (Defiants version). The Saber undoubtedly replaced the Miranda in frontline combat service, it also replaced the Centaur Class despite that class still being able to fight fairly well despite its age
This saber is gimped - the class actually has a photo torpedo turret in the rear that allowed for doing broadsides, you can even see this during the fight with the cube in FC
As to whether the Sabre is a replacement for the Miranda class... It somewhat depends on how big it is supposed to be, but even at the biggest accepted size of 223m long, those forward shuttle bay doors are much smaller than the shuttle bay doors on the Miranda class. I feel like having two sizeable shuttle bays is one of the key components of the Miranda's mission profile, at least for engineering and logistics. If we imagine a variant of the ship with a larger bay door on the aft end or perhaps top loading bay doors on those darker hull sections on saucer, then perhaps it would be a suitable replacement.
I feel like it replaces the modern role the miranda would have filled, while the role the Miranda had when it was first built, the Nebula replaced that
I loved this ship an the dominion game so much , I wore out my CD of this game an it was so fun to play an I won many times once I learned to use one ship to attack an have the others guard me , we kicked but , I buy a copy it I could find it , I loved the strategy of it
I'd say the Sabre was probably Starfleet's answer to an aging fleet of Mirandas. You figure, during the events of the Dominion War, we see the Mirandas and their derivatives: but they're pushing age and technology at that point. They're...what, almost 80 year old ships? Same could be said of the Excelsior classes as well, but those things were lovely and deserved to be kept working in their age: much like the modern day B52s! But yes, I think if anything, Mirandas being aged out and slowly being withdrawn, Sabres would fit that 'edges of deep space patrol' mission well. Cheap, easy to send out, easy to escape if a fight's too tough. Upgrade with a mission pod, upgrade the phasers, and withdraw one of the shuttle bays. Make this a combat ship, through and through. With a compliment of 40, there's no need for shuttles really. One or two, that's it.
Saber class reminds me of a weaker Miranda class just with a secondary hull glued to the aft of the saucer section with some of it sticking out instead of being built into saucer.
Given how maneuverable the Sabre is I wish it had additional front facing Pulse Phasers like in the Defiant Class. The little thing would then pack a decent punch.
That's not saying much... K'vort class could easily eat that Sabre for lunch. Let's not forget klingons are the premiere warrior race and their ships have matchless maneuverability and fire power... + cloaking device....
I was never really a fan of the saber or steam runner classes... LOVE the Akira. Don't think I ever played the Domion Wars game, which is odd cuz I thought I had played all the star trek games. Glad the Bird of Prey kicked so much but, have always loved its design. It just looks SO cool. Was the first ship I ever had a model of, my Uncle gave it to me after he had finished painting it and a few other ships, but the Bird of Prey was my favourite... tho the D'Deredex was a close second.
I think they were more even in capability than you stated, because the winner of each battle had around 90% hull left. I'll give you that you were able to defeat the Sabre class faster than defeating the Bird of Prey.
Ever since The Search for Spock, the B'rel Bird of Prey has been my favorite Klingon ship. I was also watching a DS9 RGB and I got to thinking. What would an assimilated DS9 RGB be like?
The Saber should've been the more practical, cheaper, and actually mass produced younger brother of the Defiant. It should be a lot stronger than the Miranda it copies its stats from.
How about. BATTLE STAR GALLACTICA VS THE USS ENTERPRISE NCC 1701. Respect and keep up the epic work. Which two races are your Favourite in Star Trek ? mine are The Klingons and The Borg.
I have Request... Knowing that the Nova was the upgrade to the Orberth... How many Orberths could the Nova theoretically take down? (If it makes it more interesting, you could try it with the Endgame Nova.)
While I have a fondness for the Steamrunner Class myself, it suffers from the same problem as the Saber. For all it's anti-Borg design, if it doesn't win in the first thirty seconds, it's a gonner. They just have very little ability to handle sustained combat. I had heard a rumor The Saber, Steamrunner and Norway Classes were all severely downgraded, so I don't know if this weakness is specific to Bridge Commander or not. With that problem, I can't see the Saber replacing the Miranda any time soon.
Upgrade the New Orleans : type 9 Phasers to New Type 10's , The Torpedo pods to Quantum 10 round burst (thats 30 Quantum Torpedoes per volley) , Shields to New Type post Dominion War. An upgraded new Orleans would make a very good Hero Ship.
Request: How many klingon Bird of preys can the Generations Enterprise D destroy? I‘m requesting this because I always felt that it was bs that a single outdated Bird of Prey could take out the D so easily. And yes I realize that the klingons knew the Enterprise‘s shield frequence but they were still outgunned.
Sabre, i love that ship, it is so a cool looking ship, small compact, fast. For me is the Saber the gunboat and the defiant is the torpedo (pulsphaser) destroyer.
it's strange , i watched a lot of these battles and federation Phasers seem to do nearly no damage compared to other standard weapons . It would be interesting to see a standard weapon battle (phasers , disruptors, polaron beams, etc) without torpedos
It's very small. It's a frigate compared to the battleship that is the Galaxy class. The Galaxy class torpedo tube is much larger so it can stage up to 10 torpedoes at a time vs the Sabre with only 2. The Defiant is around the same size, but it has 2 forward facing torpedo tubes to the Sabre's 1.
showing my age by saying i loved the Sabre class since Star Trek armada 2. god i loved that game.
I still play Armada 2 on my Windows XP system
U can get armada 2 free online. I got it a while back but the graphics are really showing their age.
@@dont_give_a_flying_f there’s some great mods that upgrade the graphics for you
@dont_give_a_flying_f Where can I get it? And will it play on Win10/11? I would play that alot if I could get ahold of it.
Gog is where i get my games.
The Sabre to me was the Federation's Jem'Hadar fighter
They are equal in fighting power, but the Sabre is twice the size of the Jem'Hadar attack ship
@@timonsolusjem fighter only holds 8 torpedos and 3 forward polaron beams... I would think the Sabre should easily outclass it.
Man, I miss Star Trek: Dominion Wars! Such a great game.

Sabre always felt like the love child of an Oberth and a Defiant to me...
Yes, it is the love child, but we don't talk about that party.
The original Saber class is supposed to be an escort class but later specs is that it became a support ship used by Starfleet Corps of Engineering instead of a combat role. The aft section could easily be expanded to have the hangar bay instead of it being on the front which could be replaced with heavier weapons.
It was built as an anti-borg ship unless my memory is a little off.
Would explain why it got reassigned to a different role.
I love the Sabre class as well because of its rapid build/deployment time. This made me grin. And like those modifications. Appropriate name too.
It replaces the Oberth class! Ty for the video and LLAP!

All of them
It takes like 13 steam runners to beat the scimitar.
So prob like 18 sabers
Ah, a fellow connoisseur i see! Not many have the fine taste required to appreciate the Sabre.
Could you imagine a sabre equipped with all the tech as the delta flyer. Just scaled up to the appropriate size
I still want to see a Dominion war refit Galaxy and Nebula both with quantums take on as many Romulan valdors as possible .
I had the Sabre and Norway rigged for insane speed in Starfleet Command III. All hit and run.
always thought of the sabre as the new miranda so having the extra's that would go on the miranda also on the sabre seems like a no brainer
I see the *Saber Class* as a Torpedo Boat, like PT Boat or German E-boat. They are small and nimble, designed to deliver torpedoes and then evade. Yeah, she is designed to fire the torpedoes and then evade until reload. Not suited for a brawl with the BoP or other attack ships.
Rooting for the Sabre here, as I briefly captained one in a Star Trek TTRPG.
