In this episode, we explain why, if only tilling, still keeping your garden laid out into wide beds is much better for your plants.
Not everyone has the time or ability to do the double digging, spading, or forking to get deeply loosened soil. Therefore, we need a method that people unable to use one of those wonderful powerhouse methods can use to add organic matter to their soil and keep their tilled soil as loose as they can all season long.
While it may never truly compete with double digging for plants like tomatoes, peppers, and broccoli, this is an ideal method for corn and for more shallowly rooted plants like squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, and melons. And it works well enough for plants that are easy to add a few more of to compensate for any lesser production, like beans and peas.
