I think this is great for us that have glasses. Thanks for all your great videos. I'm saving up to start flying quadcopter said to. Been following flute test for a longtime. You guys make this hobby rock. Thank you very much
Was finally able to take my HeadPlays out for my first FPV flight yesterday. Holy Cow, flying FPV is addicting! The only thing that made me stop yesterday was I took a pass over a small tree a little too low and crashed. Luckily the Electrohub frame is durable so i only broke props and the landing gear zip ties. Looking forward to some more FPV today!
FliteTest you said the HeadPlay's FOV is similar to that of most FatSharks. Not sure where you get that from. The HeadPlay HD is ~70 degrees and the most I have ever seen on FatSharks is like 45 degrees on the Dominator HDs
Chris Griffin This is true. From what I have heard the Headplay is MUCH more immersive than any of the Fat Shark goggles. I wonder if flite test is "playing nice" with all their sponsors. Either way, it was a good episode.
Chris Griffin BobaGabe1 It's further away from your eyes so the 70 degrees is a huge improvement but not a total game changer. We love our FatSharks but they are not a current sponsor of the show.
Had a budget of 4 to 500 dollars actually ordered the dominator hd then watch all the Headplay videos, immediately canceled the dominator order now like most others anxious waiting to be blow away with these new googles. :)
I think I'm going to order a set of these. I fly Dom V2s, but been I've wanting a solution to give people "rides" while I fly. By the way, that book, "The Dip" is awesome. I read a borrowed copy a few years ago and recently bought it to read it again. Really good for anyone that runs a business or wants to run one.
FliteTest And the display unit in community is called HMD Head Mounted Display. It's strange feeling when you call them googles :) It would be more natural if you would call them HMD's
Have you thought about doing a micro brushless FPV quadcopter episode? Maybe look at the Hermit FPV quadcopter and the LKTR120? I'm currently trying to build one and would love to see flitetest's take on them
Honestly i love y'all! Y'all are great and the stuff that y'all show is awesome im new and trying to get into FPV and all this stuff helps! I have a cheap quad that i bought and i was wondering if y'all could do an episode on how to make a quad that has a camera FPV compatible. If yall could show it from the ground up like how to make everything from the camera to mounting it that would be awesome!!
Great video as usual, guys! But that price isn't very competitive IMO, $250 American is currently $317 Australian, and for $320 I can get a FatShark Telemetry system with goggles and Tx/Rx from hobbyking. Or even a FatShark Teleporter V3 with Tx/Rx and a camera for $256 Australian.
Great video guys. Quick question. Why did you say that if you had $400-$500 to still buy the Dominators? What makes those better if you want as large of a FOV as possible?
Great review. I've had 2 sets of fatsharks and now a HK $30 box. Just got the box for others to try and hook it up to my ground station but i'm very impressed with it. Now it's my primary set up. Looking fwd to trying this set up. No video out for a DVR? That's a bummer.
Are you guys going to be at Baylands in Fremont CA this coming weekend? I heard you guys were there last weekend but i was busy. Well if you're going to be there this weekend, Ill see you guys there.
Built my own FPV goggles... 10$ dirt bike goggles, 15$ 4.3 in. Screen... 25$ pair of goggles right there lol. I used the boxes that it shipped in and made a frame from the screen to the goggles and hot glued it on. Might have to make a how to on it one day lol.
Great episode guys btw will you guys do a episode on the Skyzone 3D DVR googles? Me&my uncle have them they are very cool dough we haven't used the 3d features yet?
Oh and by the way, I really want that they are going to sell it in europe to.. Shipping and taxes will proberly add 50% to it's price when I order this from usa..
Could you please Post the Setup (Camera / Transmitter etc.) for this goggle? I am going to replace my Fatshark Predator v2 and i am looking for a good alternative with high resolution and clear picture, even with long ranges
I have nothing to gain from calling you guys out, but I have to. Way too many people look up to you for honest reviews. You're better than this. 7:40 "The resolution is a lot higher than the Quanum goggles" Quanum 320x480 = 153,600 pixels HeadPlay HD 1280x800 = 1,024,000 pixels This is beyond comparison. 8:53 "The HeadPlay's have 72 degrees FOV, about the same as most of the Fat Shark goggles" This is outright incorrect. DomHD 45 degrees, DomV2 32 degrees AttitudeV2 35 degrees PredatorV2 25 degrees 10:10 "If you have a budget of $400-$500 get the Fat Sharks" Why spend more for less? Even the DomHD's are only 800x600 pixels, narrower FOV, and blurry as all heck. :P 11:19 "Start with this (HeadPlay's) and if you like it move on to something more advanced." That would be like bringing home a 60" 1080p TV, enjoying a few movies, then getting a 37" 720p TV to replace it.
EnoughWIthTheLies 0. It's not a review, but more of a "look what's new" type of video. They were playing around with a prototype, not the final product. 1. True. 2. True. I'm guessing Josh had the wrong number in his head. The DomHDs have 73 mm interpupillary distance. 3./4. Because of the one thing the Headplay goggles are not as good. Josh mentioned that the immersive feeling is better with Fatsharks. It might be that it's because you are more "looking through the camera", while the Headplay's feel more like looking around on a massive screen. Also the Headplays don't have head tracking as far as I know - also a feature regarding immersiveness. Please don't take that last reason away from me, because I have just bought the monstrous expensive Dominator HDs and would be really mad if there wasn't at least one thing they are better in. (Also: 3D!) ;-)
Balu Actually, ppl are moving from Fatshark Dom HD to Headplay HD just because the immersion feels so much better in the Headplays. And reading the specs I can't imagine how a FOV of 45 degrees can feel more immersive then 72 degrees... ;) Anyhow, what feels this or that is of course subjective. Some will feel that one product is better then the other and vice versa.
You can get the Teleporter V3 on Hobbyking for $200 with a camera and transmitter, but the camera isn't super good, and the receiver is only 250mw, but I think that's a pretty competitive deal, as these don't come with a transmitter. I don't understand why no one seems to remember the teleporters...
So, what's up with the 2 planes in the background??? First, in most curious about the white one with the small wings on the nose behind Josh, and second, I'm curious about the Red Baron looking one. When do we get to see these planes??!!?!?
Could you do a review on the FPV gear with low mw. In my country, there are laws against flying with high mw transmitters. You need a license to fly with 100mw(called "amateur license" that cost about 250$). A little help choosing transmitters would be nice. Seen that immersion has a 25mw transmitter but I don't know much about it.
***** FPV pilots seem to be using HD as acronym for "higher definition than what we are used to". ;-) I guess even if you have a low def camera, the picture can look crisper on a display with higher resolution. Also there are full HD systems - camera, transmitter, receiver and all - available now.
***** The screen in the Headplay goggles it's HD, resolution is 1280x800 and I'm pretty sure is an IPS panel, Fatshark Dominator HD are only 800x600. Analog video is SD but with the Headplay goggles you can connect a digital wireless video system like the DJI Lightbridge using the HDMI input and have real HD FPV.
Eric William -MKme Tech We allready saw it.. its actually a japanese J7W Shinden fighter (it was a prototype).. they straped a rocket to it and released it from the kraken a couple of times until it exploded.. wonder if we are getting to see one actually complete and working (i think Peter said something about being quite troublesome)
sparrowlt Yep- They usually strategically place upcoming models etc in the background as easter eggs/hints of upcoming. Second time I've seen that one so I figured it might be a feature coming :) Maybe we only get that one episode though.
FliteTest Could you do a review of the Quanum v2 goggles? I am looking into my first set of goggles and would like to hear what you guys have to say. Thanks!
It's actually double, almost triple the FOV of most of the fatshark except for the Dom HD which is 45 deg. FOV as compared to the 72 deg Headplay HD.... that's QUITE a difference.
So I understand that the head play goggles are far better than the fat shark teleporters, but at what point in the fat shark line would you say that they surpas head play goggles? Does one need to go all the way up to dominator HD's to see better performance? What about dominator v2's?
Two questions: What video receiver to achieve long range with FPV? And what do you recommend to record from the Headplay or just do like you guys put the DSLR in the headplay lol ?
I was just wondering... A great RC plane for fpv? Looking for something on the sailplane side 2 long to thermal with long battery life. Had a look at the Kunai and the Typhoon? What is your guys recommendation on this.
Freddie B-D Ah yes of course because 72 degrees in the west is completely different to 72 degrees in the east, perhaps they used Imperial degrees instead of metric one's or maybe they used degrees C by mistake :)
Balu I think what they had in mind was "who sponsors us ? " They seemed to downplay these goggles putting them in the same bracket as the Quanum goggles, not even a close comparison really
RIDERZcouk They are neither sponsored by ImmersionRC or GetFPV at the moment. If something IS sponsored or given to them for free, they mention it. Like they did in the beginning, when they said they got this preview model from GetFPV for testing. Flite Test actually visited GetFPV a few weeks ago and made a podcast with the owners talking about some of their (new) products. And a lot of people from both the FT crew and the FT AfterHours crew love the Headplays and said so in the podcast. Josh, Alex and Eric are just used to a very different type of goggles.
the fpv video shown thru the goggles is HD video correct, not standard analog? That video is way to clear to be analog(sky zone) that the kid was flying.
***** thanks! The analog video shown then must be from goPro/mobius analog stream then? I have several cctv cameras and have never seen such good resolution from them. I've seen the hd system setups and agree the lag is annoying but I think would be fine for large fixwings. I know the headplays can record as well and I just wanted to ensure that the video shown wasn't(or was) played after the fact of flying. I hope they fix bluescreen issues as I pre-ordered these and really hope they are a good alternative to paying an arm and leg for fatsharks.
hey flitetest you guys have a great page and im looking to get into fpv flying but i dont know what to get i need the hole setup i would prefer a monitor but i dont know whitch one to get my budget is $500 dollars
I know welding goggles has auto tinting when it sees a certain amount of light. I wonder if goggles could do the same so that if the inside ever sees sunlight, it'll autotint a screen to stop sun damage
Dag Eide Pretty sure - the LCD's in FatShark goggles are tiny - they need a ton of magnification to see. The Panel in the HeadPlay's is massive in comparison.
Hey FliteTest! What's the best budget FPV goggles for my first drone? Is the extra money for these HeadPlay HD goggles worth it, now that the Quanum v2 FPV Pro goggles are out? Thanks!
That looks like a welding helmet its so big. Im sure people would laugh at it but inside the person viewing is laughing because he is fpv on top of the world
Huge thanks for you all coming out to Utah and flying with me!!! I love being able to shoot your B roll, so much fun hope to do it again soon.
Edward Larson Was great meeting and hanging out with you as well sir! :)
Thanks Edward Larson!
That was awesome flying with you guys! Thanks for being great people! We love what you do!
I think this is great for us that have glasses. Thanks for all your great videos. I'm saving up to start flying quadcopter said to. Been following flute test for a longtime. You guys make this hobby rock.
Thank you very much
I tried them on at SEFF and think they are AWESOME! Will be buying them as soon as they are available.
Tried them on at Toledo and was blown away. I'm horribly near sighted so I took my glasses off to wear the Head Play and the picture was awesome!
That 'magnifier' is called a fresnel lens.
Ian Davidson I was just about to say that!
Ian Davidson you can melt stacks of pennies with those suckers if they're big enough. such a cool approach to magnification
dllTheLoneReaderllb The king of Random FTW.
dllTheLoneReaderllb Get them from old rear projection TVs.
Ian Davidson The same fresnel lens that light houses use?
300,000 subscribers!!!!! Congrats guys!!!
Loving these episodes recently :)
Congrats FliteTest! You hit 300,000 subscribers. :)
FliteTest you said the HeadPlay's FOV is similar to that of most FatSharks. Not sure where you get that from. The HeadPlay HD is ~70 degrees and the most I have ever seen on FatSharks is like 45 degrees on the Dominator HDs

BobaGabe1 I was wondering the same thing about "sponsors" considering they themselves didn't really "review" it, they had a kid do it.
FliteTest I saw these but saw the price tag. No way for 250! They look funky too.
I love the googly eyes on the pun jet!
Good to see you help the community
josh and eric are great. loving the new FT format. awesome goggles great flying.
Had a budget of 4 to 500 dollars actually ordered the dominator hd then watch all the Headplay videos, immediately canceled the dominator order now like most others anxious waiting to be blow away with these new googles. :)
That was some awesome scenery to fly around!!
Great review guys! I've been eyeing those!
Hey, would you consider doing an episode on how to travel via airline with RC gear? Thanks!
more I learn about flying fpv drones the more I want to do it! This was great!
Great work guys! Thanks so much!
Ed
I think I'm going to order a set of these. I fly Dom V2s, but been I've wanting a solution to give people "rides" while I fly. By the way, that book, "The Dip" is awesome. So jealous of that flying site in the desert :O
UGHHH I WAS REFRESHING ALL DAY FLITE TEST!!!! I SAW YOUR INSTAGRAM!!!!
That magnification screen is called a frezno lens. Like on old big screen tv. We used to melt pennies with them.
fresnel
samsonite
Great job guys, good watch.
Great episode guys, looking forward to the release of these. I have funds already put aside to buy them.
ATB Malc
RCTVUK
Great review especially having a view from inside the goggles! Thanks guys!
This can't be possible!
Just what i needed! A FT review on this :)
Dick'n Nick Happy to help :)
Looks great, will the final production units come with a video overlay for altitude, direction, battery condition etc ?
Have you thought about doing a micro brushless FPV quadcopter episode? Maybe look at the Hermit FPV quadcopter and the LKTR120? I'm currently trying to build one and would love to see flitetest's take on them

Take care of your Cinemizer Eric, these are not manufactured anymore, we break it, and no more this feeling of belonging to a higher-caste ! ;)
new to rc world, drawn by fpv...great informative videos for all levels, thanks
Amazing views guys! really great video.
Aw damn, I just ordered the Quantum as my first fpv kit. Hopefully larger fresnel lenses will help...
Great video guys. Quick question. Why did you say that if you had $400-$500 to still buy the Dominators? What makes those better if you want as large of a FOV as possible?
So if you were in Utah and haven't filmed an episode with Daniel... I be disappointed.
Fantastic video! I just had a question on when the electrohub kits coming back in stock?
The other thing I thought of is the hdmi port would be great to plug your gopro into to preview your footage.
Great review. I've had 2 sets of fatsharks and now a HK $30 box. Just got the box for others to try and hook it up to my ground station but i'm very impressed with it. Now it's my primary set up. Looking fwd to trying this set up. No video out for a DVR? That's a bummer.
Valley of the Gods - Airwolf Country !
hartrockets Exactly! B-)
New scratch build behind bixler!!!!!
Are you guys going to be at Baylands in Fremont CA this coming weekend? I heard you guys were there last weekend but i was busy. Well if you're going to be there this weekend, Ill see you guys there.
Amazing video!
"72 degrees field of view, thats about the same as most of the fatshark models".
Fatsharks have FOV from 46 degrees to 25 degrees depending on model.
Rangevideo sells them too where I preordered mine
Great episode guys btw will you guys do a episode on the Skyzone 3D DVR googles? Me&my uncle have them they are very cool dough we haven't used the 3d features yet?
Looks like an Oculus. Speaking of...would love to see someone integrate that into FPV. The possibilities would be endless with that.
cpthornman We just got an Oculus. Content to come :)
FliteTest Sweet!! I can only imagine what buffoonery Peter will get into. :)
Great video love it but I have one question, is that a ft racing quad in the background?
Nice review !!
Did u test on battery time? How long it last?
Great video guys. Had been watching these. Great to see a review!
I ordered one at GetFPV.com. And BACKORDER ofcourse.
Knut Uppstad Pre-order. :) No-one has these yet.
I am new and trying to learn as much as possible. Do you have a episode where you talk about radios for cameras?
Oh and by the way, I really want that they are going to sell it in europe to.. Shipping and taxes will proberly add 50% to it's price when I order this from usa..
i see that shinden in the back, when is it going to be in an episode? u guys are the best
Jack The closest answer from Peter was in one of the latest episodes and that was "soon". ;-)
I've seen it in the last two episodes. I think it's coming very very soon.
Can adjust them for eye glasses???
Could you please Post the Setup (Camera / Transmitter etc.) for this goggle? I am going to replace my Fatshark Predator v2 and i am looking for a good alternative with high resolution and clear picture, even with long ranges
Nice quality. For $250 I am so getting that when it comes out!
Southern Utah is on the map!
I have nothing to gain from calling you guys out, but I have to. Way too many people look up to you for honest reviews. You're better than this.
7:40 "The resolution is a lot higher than the Quanum goggles"
Quanum 320x480 = 153,600 pixels
HeadPlay HD 1280x800 = 1,024,000 pixels
This is beyond comparison.
8:53 "The HeadPlay's have 72 degrees FOV, about the same as most of the Fat Shark goggles"
This is outright incorrect.
DomHD 45 degrees, DomV2 32 degrees
AttitudeV2 35 degrees PredatorV2 25 degrees
10:10 "If you have a budget of $400-$500 get the Fat Sharks"
Why spend more for less? Even the DomHD's are only 800x600 pixels, narrower FOV, and blurry as all heck. :P
11:19 "Start with this (HeadPlay's) and if you like it move on to something more advanced."
That would be like bringing home a 60" 1080p TV, enjoying a few movies, then getting a 37" 720p TV to replace it.
EnoughWIthTheLies
0. It's not a review, but more of a "look what's new" type of video. They were playing around with a prototype, not the final product.
1. True.
2. True. I'm guessing Josh had the wrong number in his head. The DomHDs have 73 mm interpupillary distance.

Actually, ppl are moving from Fatshark Dom HD to Headplay HD just because the immersion feels so much better in the Headplays. And reading the specs I can't imagine how a FOV of 45 degrees can feel more immersive then 72 degrees... ;)
Anyhow, what feels this or that is of course subjective. Some will feel that one product is better then the other and vice versa.
Are you guys ever coming close to Idaho sometime. I would really like to meat you guys in person.
That magnifier inside is called fresnel lens :-P
what a absolute beautiful place to fly guys , ill try to send you some pics of my scratch build HD face box well that's what i call it anyway :)
the "magnification screen" at 2:25 is a fresnel lense, FYI
You can get the Teleporter V3 on Hobbyking for $200 with a camera and transmitter, but the camera isn't super good, and the receiver is only 250mw, but I think that's a pretty competitive deal, as these don't come with a transmitter. How can you guys say HD if the camera isn't an HD camera? Even an 800TVL camera is considered an ordinary analog low definition camera.
***** FPV pilots seem to be using HD as acronym for "higher definition than what we are used to". ;-)
I guess even if you have a low def camera, the picture can look crisper on a display with higher resolution. Also there are full HD systems - camera, transmitter, receiver and all - available now.

sparrowlt Yep- They usually strategically place upcoming models etc in the background as easter eggs/hints of upcoming. Second time I've seen that one so I figured it might be a feature coming :) Maybe we only get that one episode though.
When is the bebop drone review coming???
From this video it sounds like they actually prefer the farsharks..? Thought the headplay were in a different league image wise
300.000 subs is sooo close!
Go Bogies Go Yes!
+FliteTest 500.000 so close
Thx guys nice review good job 😀
FliteTest Could you do a review of the Quanum v2 goggles?

Hi what Fpv camera were you using with the Headplays? Seems very crisp to me and yet still looking for the best camera with excellent video quality.
Two questions:
What video receiver to achieve long range with FPV?
And what do you recommend to record from the Headplay or just do like you guys put the DSLR in the headplay lol ?
Wow! Nice dive :D
what is the thick of the foam that all the plane made of ???!

Sent back my skyzone v02 for these bad boys i think i made the right move !!!
thanks guys good review
Would it work if I strap a portable tv from the 80's to my head? .)
hi guys.......... what as happened to josh scott........... not seen hin for ages..
brilliant information as always thanks........ tony from the UK
When did you guys visit Utah and where did you guys fly at? Did you guys like it here? love your videos. -Jake
If you listen they said top visit the college
They were in Blanding at USU Eastern STEAM Expo
Why not fly rc They went there instead of the Week Signals show. Which was a couple weekends ago.
No way the Fatshark field of view is anywhere near the 72 deg of these
RIDERZcouk Its a different sort of FOV
Freddie B-D Ah yes of course because 72 degrees in the west is completely different to 72 degrees in the east, perhaps they used Imperial degrees instead of metric one's or maybe they used degrees C by mistake :)
RIDERZcouk The DomHD interpupillary distance goes to 73 mm. Perhaps they had that in mind.
Balu I think what they had in mind was "who sponsors us ? "

I know welding goggles has auto tinting when it sees a certain amount of light. I wonder if goggles could do the same so that if the inside ever sees sunlight, it'll autotint a screen to stop sun damage
SSJChar The magnification is low enough, it won't sun damage like fat sharks.
blakeyoself Interesting, are you sure about this ?
Dag Eide Pretty sure - the LCD's in FatShark goggles are tiny - they need a ton of magnification to see. The Panel in the HeadPlay's is massive in comparison.
That's pretty awesome.
Hey FliteTest! What's the best budget FPV goggles for my first drone? Is the extra money for these HeadPlay HD goggles worth it, now that the Quanum v2 FPV Pro goggles are out? Thanks!
those are nice, but check out the eachine vr007
Is THE headstrap of THE fpv goggles of à gopro??
