- Here you have 5 rules on how to drink an espresso like a true Italian:
N1: Italians rarely take the coffee to go! Espresso is a pleasure so you need to take your time and drink it sitting down or if in a rush you can drink it at the counter.
N2: Always drink a glass of water before your espresso, it will help to clean your palate
and appreciate all the flavors of a good coffee
N3: DO NOT lick the spoon, that goes against the rules of etiquette, just leave it
on the side when you're done using it.
N4: Should you stir the coffee clockwise or counterclockwise? None of the two!
you should always mix it from top to bottom to distribute well aromas and flavors.
N5: Wet the edge of the cup with a little coffee, if you want to act like a true Neapolitan,
that reduces the difference of temperature between your lips and the coffee so you won’t burn your tongue.

Never had I thought that I'll have to watch a video on how to drink coffee
There'll be videos soon of how to have a piss...the worst thing is there's retards out there who will do it 🤦🏻♂️
Welcome to the new shit World, where everyone wanna teach you something
There is lots you don’t know. North America is not a beacon of knowledge regarding food and cultural manners. But don’t worry, as long as we can handle a donut shop, we’re golden!
@@konradkordovsky9335 "beacon of food and cultural manners" Bro it's a guide on drinking coffee. I mean just drink it how u like to.
I love my expresso to go, stirring both ways and then sucking the spoon.
This is the way.
Remember to suck both ends of the spoon!
Americano
That’s the way to do it at Starbucks.!!
Nonsense. Just drink your espresso how you like it 😂
Exactly. Source: I'm Italian. Eat whatever the fuck you want. Put pineapple in coffee, macaroni on chicken, lasagne on peanut butter. WHo cares. Buon appetito!
He said if you want to drink it like an Italian these are the rules. He didn’t say you have to follow them.
@@Ajm0985 Exactly, it also doesn’t mean all Italians drink it that way, but most do.
@@axolotl8316always lick the spoon !
@@AndreaAustoni dont act like u invented those things all of them are turkish/asian
I remember visiting Italy when I was very young. The old men in the village cafe always had water on the side. Those espresso machines were hand pumped, of course. No electric pump. That was a time when a Barista was not about show and being poncey it was about forearm power and speed. Those old me would not put up with anything else.
Why the hates? The rules are not silly
And they are invented to make a 1 minute video on you tube .
Cause Americans think they know it all. Think they own the franchise on Americans because of queens haha
Six shots of espresso with a little warm milk. Yum, perfetto!
Next : how to drink water like true Italian
Brilliant. I’ll try it with my Italian Mocha pot! 👏🙏🏻
I liked espresso and I like Italian man too
Not lick the spoon? Cmon!😊
This is Europe not America. We have manners.
Putting a spoon in your mouth is bad manners?

My hand would be shaking putting down the spoon fighting the urge to lick the spoon.
I just take a shot as it is called a espresso shot 😂
Imagine coffee originated from Ethiopia or Yemen and now enjoyed by billions around the world. Amazing.
Love espresso! Was in Italy last year it was fantastic!! Rome, Florence, Venice.
😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉
Nicely done
gotta will use all these tips tommorow at breakfast
Thank you!
Macchiato for me.
You drink the water before AND after the espresso. Before to cleanse the palate, after for hydration. Da Italiana 😉
For hydratation? Water you drink before does not hydratate?
No you drink the water before because you taste the coffee better 😊
Long coffee for me, after one sip of espresso i forget i had it so i need another one 😂
What about putting in sugar? I like brown sugar in mine, I've tried going sugar-free but I always end up back with sugar again, it just tastes better IMO.
There’s a difference between etiquette and personal taste. What clicky coffee snobs think about the way you drink your coffee shouldn’t be in the way of you enjoying your life 😉
Also if you look closely there’s a sugar packet involved in the espresso in the video
Forgot that you need a marlboro red as well
is that on the way to hospital for the lung cancer?
I love espresso with only sugar. Or long coffee with only cream.
now i just need to watch a yt video on how to do number 2
Very helpful. I rarely drink esspresso because I do not live in Italy and good esspresso only in Italian coffee bar! Besides, I like lighter roasted coffee brewed in drip. However good moka is always welcome and I can make it at home.
I had to see it twice to realize the guy's not kidding
Espresso....yum
That’s attention to detail . And make you slow down and appreciate the product .
Prefer espresso.
Thank for the education!
Sempre espresso per me, grazie mille
Prefer a long coffee ( flat white ) still maintains the flavour and aroma
Espresso!
Sorry, but I’m going to always leak the spoon now. Just can’t resist and the rules of etiquette are optional
Okay lick but don't leak..
Come to Greece, no stupid rules, drink your coffee however you want, and it's even more delicious!
Going for the first time on Tuesday. Never been more excited.
True in my experience
100% agreed! I love Turkish coffee 😝
@@mabdood79 Greeks make an amazing turkish coffee and döner kebab

Ristretto, Bello 😉
Usually, Italians drink their espresso at the counter very quick and go. Spend 2- 3 minutes in a coffee shop only.
The best espresso i drink in all of my life was in italy
I'm almost certain this guy was the CEO of Reynholm Industries until he was caught up in an issue with missing pension funds.
Was going to say put some coffee on your rim. Spoon upwards to distribute the sugar.
My current go to connoisseur's coffee is 7-Eleven's iced cappuccino with no sugar.
A smidge less than 1 dollar with coupon, or on rebate days.
Expresso tends to cool down very quickly, not needed to mess it around with the spoon. Water at the end true, its about common sense
I like espresso ❤
I love latte and cappuccino... Period...!
In summer I prefer affocado!😂 (I hope I spelled correctly!)
Thank you. Good tips. Contrary to comments here. You should listen to people who have more experience, passion and involvement with European food and drink.
Slurping down a jumbo cola and bigMac doesn’t exactly have the same technique for enjoying a more complex drink. Folding the coffee rather than stirring makes sense, as does wetting the edge of the Demi tasse with coffee. Cleansing the palate with water, yes. I plan to remember these tips when I go to Little Italy in Toronto.
As a teenager backpacking in Italy, I stormed back up to the counter with my espresso cup demanding a real coffee instead of a bit of tar. They laughed and called out “ Americano” and someone brought out a pot of hot water to add to my espresso. A joke on me. In America Starbucks made an “Americano” a special coffee. In Italy it was a tourist mistake.
I ordered a cappuccino to go in a small shop in Bologna. The whole bar looked at me like I was an alien. The barista asked me twice to confirm it was to go.
Because they drink it at a breakfast :P
If they actually had a cup to go you were lucky
I like it as an Americano.
Order 4 espressos, pour 'em into a larger glass, add a few cubes of ice, and down the hatch it goes!
Seems like a nicer way of saying you don’t value your health 😂
Please don’t drink more than 2 shots of espresso within 8 hours, it’s unhealthy, and I appreciate a good espresso as much as possible, I’ve literally gone to Italy multiple times just for coffee
@@aas11476ng I drink an unholy amount of coffee each day, so I've found a couple of ways to butcher coffee.
Always lick the spoon when the eyeties are watching, purely to annoy.-
True story. Went to a restaurant in Milan with some Italians. After lunch got up, left went to get a coffee. Next day went to a restaurant and got up and went to the restaurant we were in the day before for coffee. I asked why. One guy said, "it's not about the coffee, it's a process". "You eat, you walk and then you have a coffee".
Rocket science 😂😂
Man broke the No1... put the tazzino down before he finished it...
My rules.....pick the cup... and drink it.....heheheheheh
The strongest shot of espresso you got, or even a caffè doppio. I prefer the glass of water on the side. In The Netherlands where I live only specialized coffee bars run by real baristas serve the real deal tastewise. Many, if not most regular Dutch pubs and restaurants serve a pretty poor espresso, let alone lungo.
Palm sugar with shot of espresso and put boba in it and ice
Espresso please 😊
I traveled to Italy once only and decided to order a Latte on day 1. Instead of getting a coffee they gave me a cup of milk!! That's when I realised the Latte is not a coffee in Italy only in other countries!! Lol
??? If you order MILK you get milk. ...Latte is still an Italian word...
this video brings to mind that very italian expression what was it…uh va fangulo!
I only take a double shot of espresso in my regular otherwise coffee when I’m on a night shift, I call it defibrillator, it’s disgusting and invigorating😂
I drink espresso like every other drink, don’t care about etiquette or who gets offended.
I'll have a capuccino. 😂
I want my esspresso very hot but is there a standard temperature?
94 Celcius or 201 Fahrenheit but can be slightly lower or higher depending on the bean. Mine is set to 93.4c I think because that's what the bean liked.
How does one order a ‘long coffee’ in Italian?
Instant Nescafe all the way ❤
Tea!
Living in Bergamo, No water and no stirring most of the time
Long and black 😮😊
Come to Brazil and we will teach you to drink the very best coffee in the world in the same glass we use to drink beer and pinga (a beverage so strong that you can fuel some cars with it)
Sambuca and lemon rind on the rim.
this is just madness, bro i saw one guy just ordered 2 double shots of espresso and chugged it all on the counter and gone 10 seconds!, one other guy i swear he took the sparkling water, and mixed it with the espresso.... you cant tell me how to drink now i have seen alot 😂
I’d always lick the spoon, I think it looks more messy spilling coffee in the plate and the side of the cup, and also we don’t want coffee to go to waste.
From La Maddalena and we never wet the rim of our cups.
Watch italians at a tabacchi and you will see, they drink italian coffee (espresso) exactly like this. ❤
*the little finger has to be stratched away all time when you hold the cup*
sorry I enjoy a long coffee so i have time to read a newspaper with it!
I prefer un Latte é un Cappucino after 12:00 😂😂
I’ll drink it the way I damn well please
Long coffee is not coffee. What if I do t stir it. I don’t use sugar
I'll drink it how i want to drink it
We prefer to drink Greek Freddo Espresso.
Come to Melbourne. You will have a million of your relatives serve you great coffee and ask you home for great wog food as long as you ma gavte la nata.
Pay Coperto for each person xD
I think drinking water before Espresso is good for hydration, espresso makes me dehydrated af.
Prefer cafe crema but I will enjoy the occasional espresso.
I shake it 😂
Cappuccino nr.1!
I drink instant coffee espresso like REAL ITALIAN
Looooong coffee. Espresso is just too small
Finished before getting started. The culture of coffee is very different in Norway 😂
ofc we lick the spoon, it's how you taste if it need more sugar... :) love from italy!
Italians have made videos of how to for everything, like they are the only ones knowing how to eat, drink, sit, walk
Could be family from the french
Cappuccino! 🤌😎
I forgot to tell you that I don’t follow the rules, is there any side effects ?
Wait, you don't get to keep the spoon?
Never had good coffee in Italy … it’s a real big issue that they think they are the best - it’s not grown in Italy and normally is stale from poor storage
It's the affectation and pretense that makes it mmm bellissimo.
After becoming a coffee lover for 15 years, I still can’t handle espresso
@@puffy1966 yeah, totally, lol. any tips?
I buy my expresso from Macdonalds . I think the taste of it would surprise Neapolitans
Teach Italians how to drink espresso and allow us to drink as we should.
Sugar or no sugar?
One americano to go plz
I like long coffee.
you’re over-thinking this coffee thing
too much ceremony just for a tiny cup of coffee...
typical Murican savage
In our village we cook coffee in an open fire using wood. It stays there for years and the visitors may drink as much as they can 😁
