I started off lessons but just got bored doing jazz music and learning the notes and to read music so I quit and taught myself but lessons helped me learn the basic! So all I did was pick songs to learn on drums and to learn them I would just listen to the first 30 seconds of the song and learn a song step by step! If you don’t wanna learn a song just practice your hand speed maybe buy a drum pad practice your speed around the kit and I pretty much practiced everyday on my drum kit at home for like 6 years straight
