We drive through the Peak District to Lickpenny Caravan and Motorhome Club site, near Matlock in Derbyshire. Lickpenny is a site which has recently been acquired by the Caravan and Motorhome Club. We have a look around at the facilities, prior to any improvements the club may make. ▶ Thanks for watching, if you enjoyed the video, give us a like, leave a comment and you haven't already, please subscribe, it's free! ruclips.net/channel/UCZQ5DSOjFao4NcpDgyvX_3Q
That’s a lovely site and doesn’t need turning into a bare car park, there’s so many little areas to choose, the hedges and bushes keep it private. We’ve been several times at different times of the year and love it, the facilities may need attention but hopefully they won’t destroy what is a lovely rural site. It looks stunning in the summertime.
Shame if they remove or reduce the hedges as the one thing I dislike about many club sites is that that some can be very open and there is little privacy. Thanks for an interesting video.
Been visiting this site for almost 20 years it’s a regular of ours and just hope the caravan club don’t spoil it. Nothing wrong with the hedges like that.
Love your content as always and I loved the two times I've done drive dad's cars. I did a mini last year and was great. Looking forward to 2025s travels.
Hi Bob and Jenny, Firstly, we are big fans and love your reviews, so thank you. We just wanted to say that we have been to Lickpenny many times in the last three years. We love the privacy that the hedges provide, and in our opinion, the established, rural feel that the site offers is one of its special attractions. We agree that there are a number of improvements that can be made to bring the site up to standard, but the overall appeal, especially for us, is the fabulous location and privacy. We hope that in this respect, there will be minimal change. Keep up the great work. We love following your adventures.
We loved it there especially with the higher hedges as the pitches are nice and private, really hope the CAMC don't change it as it's so lovely as it is . X
Yes, it is very different, and the hedges do keep it private. One viewer said that hedges had become too high, but it does look like they have been trimmed.
Hi Bob, Jenny, Poppy and Tara, thank you for going to this site. This is the one I booked before Covid and had to cancel it. I never did go to it, so thank you for reviewing it. It does look dated but it still looks nice and quiet which is what Coco and I like. I hope Poppy’s ear is better soon. ❤
Yes, it looks like I didn't like the site, but I did. The pitches need refreshing, and the facilities need upgrading. It has the potential to be a top site!
January is a year long, Tax bills, dark days last year was worse though. We were the caravan in front of “The Campervan” at Meathop Fell. Our friends who were supposed to be with us, Paul and Judith, Paul died. No need to comment. You bring us a lot of joy and laughs through your channel and We used your extensive catalogue of videos to look at sites your our site Google. Huge best wishes for a healthy and happy 2025.
We had the same issue you had with Poppy’s vaccination with Max last week and thankfully it’s on a Friday that we are not going away. Thank you for your review it is nice to hear your honest assessment. Take care Gill
Great video, we are there at the beginning of April so found it interesting. We are in Scotland now but grew up in the Midlands and spent a lot of time in Derbyshire on holidays
You were right the storm was really bad up here 🏴on Friday we had it about 80mph. Lucky enough we only had one slate off the roof. Going about today there were trees down all over
Really enjoyed our weekend with you. It was great to get out in the van again and have some quality time to chat and plan our tour for later in the year. Lickpenny looks a little tired from when we visited in June 2021 but I am sure it’s going to shine again with some Club TLC. It’s has the potential to be one of the best family sites on the network. The storm was fierce but we were protected a bit by the hedges and we were parked into the wind. Looking forward to you driving the Mini’s in the next video 😃👍🏻🚐🚐💙 Trev n Sue
Thanks, we had a great weekend in spite of the weather. I am not looking forward to editing the hours of footage from Drive Dad's Car though, but it will be good!
Thanks for the video. I love to be able to see the sites in advance. A great site. I love the hedges... Great buffet for that wind. Around us the gusts were 183km....
Really interesting to see your views on this site, I think we will wait until has been refurbished to give it a try, it looks very promising. I’m surprised your vet is only now doing the 4 way Leptospirosis vaccination, our dog is 4 and had it as a puppy. We do live near farms though so it was recommended. Good job you weren’t in the worst areas affected by the storm.
Hi Bob, Great video as usual. As you said in your video, many different routes to the site. When you went round the roundabout at Baslow, then turned right to Bakewell. If you hadn’t have took that right turn and carried straight on, that would have taken you through the Chatsworth estate and into Rowsley rejoining the A6 onto Matlock. I suppose the Satnav didn’t give the option to go through Chatsworth. If you had your car, you could go over the tops, turn right out the camp site and cross straight across at the t junction, keep going straight over and that takes you onto Beeley Moor then onto the Chesterfield to Chatsworth Road. Just a couple of routes for info if you return to that site. Thanks for the videos, really enjoy watching.
I was unaware of the double vaccination schedule when I took Melli last week. Fortunately, both the initial and booster vaccinations do not conflict with our plans. 😅
This site was a very well used and respected site which we visited and found it to be brilliantly run when it was privately owned, lots of seasonal owners weren’t happy about camc taking it over but as owners retired I just wished they hadn’t sold to caravan club ! I hope they don’t ruin it, it may need a bit of a refresh but everything was functional and lots to do in the area.
We did hear a rumour that Chatsworth CCMH Site lease is due later in 2024 and the high cost could mean that the site will close. Some staff had already been released when we visited late in 2024. This we though was perhaps why, the CCMH club purchased Lickpenny.
The van was right king a bit during the night and it did lift my Taylormade screens off, but we were reasonably sheltered by the hedges and bank behind us.
We book Englethwaite Hall every Halloween for Tara to escape fireworks. Last year it was £119, this year it is £120. Both 5 night stays on Hard Standing.
I sincerely hope the club will consider the nesting birds when they reduce or remove any of the hedges? Personally I like the privacy afforded by having the hedges.
Sorry I don't agree with your review, we have been twice, a couple of years ago & the first week it was open as C&MC to see what it was like, it's great layout with privacy hedges, the last pitches you looked at the bottom below the reception of the site were all seasonal pitches with the previous owners, yes the Facilities block do need updating, I had no issue with the shower on both our stays, I hope they don't change to much
Interesting. I, like many here, it seems, rather ;like the hedging - bit of shelter from the wind, some privacy if wanted, so I hope they just keep it tidy and neat. And yes, the pitches could do with some weeding and tidying - it always is a sign, I think, when the gravel/hardcore has grass in it - and when you've seen sites like Concierge and Reed Kite having operatives pulling weeds from the pitches as soon as a vehicle's gone, it's a good thing. I just hope the Club doesn't over-club-erise it and make it as bland and samey as all the others. The lavabogatories and showers don't bother me - we're self contained as far as that's concerned - but they do look somewhat dated and needing brought up to speed for 2025. May have a gander down there once the place has been refurbished. Thanks for the vid, B&J - most useful.

We liked the privacy. It was very peaceful there - once the storm finished 😁

Yes, it will be a tremendous site.
We loved it there especially with the higher hedges as the pitches are nice and private, really hope the CAMC don't change it as it's so lovely as it is .

Hi folks x fair ol sure that one! Looks up my street for a winter mooch nice n quiet 😊 safe travels ❤ JP x
Yes, you'd love it.
We went to this site several years ago and loved it also loved the garden centre nearby and visited lovely dovedale have a lovely time
Hope you all had a cracking weekend!
Hope they don't reduce the height of the hedges too much, it seems lovely to have a 'room' to yourselves. N&Nx
They had trimmed the hedges so I don't think they will change much.

Thank you!
The Lickpenny site looks appealing, even in dreary January. I believe it will be a fantastic site once updated.
Yes, I think it will be a cracking site!
Ohh a nice Poppy & Tara treat for Sunday night
Thank you
Great video, we are there at the beginning of April so found it interesting. We are in Scotland now but grew up in the Midlands and spent a lot of time in Derbyshire on holidays
We need to spend more time in Derbeyshire!
You were right the storm was really bad up here 🏴on Friday we had it about 80mph.

It sounded awful up there. We had comparatively mild.

We had a real panic when the vet told us we have to come back in exactly 4 weeks time!
Keep the high hedges, makes it nice and private

I heard the same rumour. I hope we don't lose Chatsworth either, another special site.
Hi Bob, what sat nav do you use? We have a kon tiki 894 and would like a motorhome specific sat nav 👍🏼
We're using this one ruclips.net/video/8WJZUm_Fbc8/видео.html
Very good video. Don’t understand this unsubscribing it doesn’t cost anything
What a shame they’re planning to reduce the height of the hedges!!! The privacy they gave was great when we were there.
I think they are only trimming the highest hedges. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Was the Satnav up to date? Was the site listed as a CAMC site or did you need to use the old site name?
It's not on the CMC list on the sat nav and it's something I asked Avtex about. I've not had a reply yet, how they add new sites.
Love the hedges, be a shame if they make it another generic camp site 😮
I like a small part of January as it's my birthday 😅 Did you get blown abit by the wind,😊
The van was right king a bit during the night and it did lift my Taylormade screens off, but we were reasonably sheltered by the hedges and bank behind us.
Hello to you both another great video…. I’m sure you will have noticed what seems to be quite a large increase in the site prices.. for 2025?
We book Englethwaite Hall every Halloween for Tara to escape fireworks. Last year it was £119, this year it is £120. Both 5 night stays on Hard Standing.
We stopped at this site when it was previously owned and will be over there again in June/July ish. Two garden centres close by… thanks for sharing
I sincerely hope the club will consider the nesting birds when they reduce or remove any of the hedges? Personally I like the privacy afforded by having the hedges.
I'm sure they will.
I hope they don’t get rid of/reduce the hedges thus turning into copy of most other CAMC sites.
I only said they were trimming some of the high hedges.
Good old pops....a squize from us ...hoping the trip continues, be safe both... Gary n Ellen xx
Thank you, will do. 🐕😄

I never said I didn't like it. Just the showers and pitches need refreshing!
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
January the 47th
Yes, feels like that...😁
Think you will find C+M will fit it full of lodges !
Just like every private site we've ever been to, full of lodges!
Can tell you are a southern belle jenny
Matlock Barth
Instead of bath
Have you both got new glasses
No, we last updated our glasses in January 2024.

Looks like the club anueal subscription will be going up to pay for the site update. They will need a few million to sort that place out.
I'm looking forward to going back.
