To answer your question about the last 3 guys being let go:
Entrapment is grounds for dismissal of charges. It's designed so that police can't, for example, really try and push passers-by into buying drugs from them, and then arrest them for drug posession. Somehow they managed to convince the judge that this was the same thing. I think that every country in the west (even Bulgaria, I suspect) has this provision in their laws.

Even though they were caught selling it themselves?

@@neunleben1358 I've thought about it for a bit, and if I were their lawyer I would have said something like: "The defendant never had the intention of selling the goods in question. In fact, the defendant was getting ready to relinquish the stolen goods back to the museum on his own accord. At that moment, foreign law enforcement had, with the State's aid, offered my client a deal he couldn't refuse. 2M SEK in return for a painting he wanted to get rid of anyway. If the offer was never made, my client would never have even attempted to fence the painting. The painting would have already been returned without an additional crime being commited. The charges against my client only exist because the State itself entrapped my client by offering a deal he could only dream of. The sale of stolen goods is the State's fault, for endorsing a plan to lure the defendant into said sale."
And in the cross-examination, I'd question the officers who followed them to Copenhagen:
      - "Why did you follow the defendant?"
      - "We suspected that they were carrying stolen goods for sale"
      - "And could you have apprehended the defendant then and there for possession of those stolen goods?"
      -"Yes"
      -"Did you?"
      -"No."
      - "Why not?"
      - "We expected the goods to be sold at the destination, so we waited for that to occur."
-"Note that the witness just admitted to not detaining the defendant with the intention of arresting him for a crime orchestrated by the State "
I know it's not lawyer quality, and this probably wasn't the argument made, but it's an example of how you could avoid jailtime for being caught redhanded.

@@joeppeters7001 To be fair, an argument could be made by the state law enforcement that the undercover officers tailing the suspects were necessary to confirm the presence of the painting. This can be especially useful, since the painting WAS not present on the train; only a decoy. If they had arrested him on the train, it would be under false charges, since they still do not know the location of the painting. It would've been a fifty fifty on the train. If the police are unable to uncover the painting, he walks free and opinion of the police forces would be hit hard. It would be tantamount to arresting an 'innocent' man.

I'm Swedish, and I never knew about this whole thing until I saw Internet Historian's video. :,D Then again, I was like 10 back then so...
Btw, the "TRO" that they refer to is the acronym of "The Right Opinion", and in his own videos he has a very refined, British voice, so hearing ...this... come out of him just seems unreal. xD

Nah setting fire to the get away vehicle is a rookie mistake. The fire department will be there within 30 minutes and with a rough time estimate, all the police has to do is to check all the local cameras within that time frame.
What they should have done was to sabotage the boat so it sank in the lake.

He isn't dressed as a KKK member, the outline comes from some ads he made for raid Shadow Legends as an medieval executioner, he just changes the logos up when he does different ads, he has started using other pictures mixed with logos instead of always using the hooded man.

It is harder to fence something rare if it’s stolen, but there’s a black market for everything :P

Yeah you'd want to line up a buyer before you stole it that way the chances of it being an undercover cop are alot lower then if you tried it afterwards
