Love the channel. Just got my first Komodo a few weeks back and I’ve been wondering what the best way to get great audio is … are you saying you can use the Mixpre or perhaps Zoom F3/6 preamps but record the improved audio into the Komodo directly? So you don’t have to worry about synching them in post
You stop using mic pre 3ii with the red Komodo do you think the high 18db available to use on the mixpre10ii will help the red Komodo and c70 or is the mixpre6ii be great enough ??
I like your setup for the Komodo. Are you able to tell me the width of this rig? Outside handle to outside handle. This may very well be the perfect configuration to put on the Ronin 2 using P Tap. I'm thinking I can quickly go from the gimbal to B Cam handheld or on sticks in 5mins or less.
How often do you hook up a focus type device like a tilta nucleus m to your komodo ? I was thinking if picking up the full set up of the tilta nucleus m but Im not sure how much I'd use it vs. Staying lightweight and focusing lenses by hand
When using a Cine zoom all the text me with primes almost never get bless on a crane or boom or some type of support that doesn’t allow for manual access
Yes, it would be very difficult to recommend the MixPre3 in today’s production environment. 3 channels isn’t enough beyond solo RUclips creators. 6 to 8 channels are way more the norm in corporate and indie productions based on what I shoot.
Like this style of video. Different from the traditional videos you've done. Refreshing. The pin that goes into your tripod head and holds the mixer has an anti slip/rotating mechanism? Whenever I use those pins for my audio, they rotate and get loose
I have an FS5 II and it has built in XLR. But this looks like a great way for those of us looking to get the red Komodo but are questioning it because of the lack of audio inputs. And the Nd filter looks awesome! May not be like Sony’s electronic but I can do without that. I think 🤔 😂 thanks for that info!!
What is a good external hard drive to unload 512gb cards of red komodo footage on set . I plan to upload from that external hard drive to apple computer so I can edit on apples Internal ssd . Do these external hard drives need to be fast if I plan to upload the footage to the Apple anyhow to edit on apples Internal ssd ?
if you're dumping the files on to your laptop, all you would need is a card reader. I would always advice to make at least two copies of the footage on to external drives for safety. I use the Samsung T7 type of drives.
@@carlosq00 ima upload to laptop from card reader to ssd then to Apple desktop to edit I was going to lacie rugged 5tb to upload from laptop and then upload to Apple desktop to edit on its Internal ssd. But the SanDisk, gdrive 4tb or t7 sounds like faster option .
for shoots that are 3 hours or less, I use rechargeable AA batteries. For shoots that will run all day like 7+ hours of run time, I use the NPF batter sled.
@@carlosq00 I for sure want the mix pre ii. in the meantime can I use my zoom h6 and be able to record synch Audio into the red komodo ? What pluggins or extra accessories will I need .
I’m not Carlos but I personally have one. I suffered from back problems when I used other chairs so I invested in the embody. If you spend 4+ hours a day in your chair then I would say it’s worth it. If it’s possible I would highly recommend going into a Herman Miller store and trying out the aeron as well because I’ve heard some people prefer it.
Did you have a Galvanic Isolator on yours and i just didn't notice it? I have a small panic attack everytime I do my startup because that damn sdi port is so finicky.
EF lenses mainly because with the focal reducer, I get the extra stop of light into Komodo as well as a full frame field of view. If weight is a priority, then RF Lenses and if I'm in a commercial environment then Canon CNE primes.
@@carlosq00 wow 😲 I never thought of that but you're right, you want the RF mount for the focal reducer do you notice a change in sharpness or is it just fringing on the edges? I was gonna get a 15-35mm but then I think 16-35mm plus focal reducer is better plus f4L IS because I like the look of handheld with stabilized lenses but with the iso in these sensors plus the focal reducer is there any need for f2.8 these days over the f4L is I guess you're right if u want light and tight setups then go with the 15-35mm f2.8 💯☺️ but you really dialed in this setup it looks good 👑👑👑
Good God... I'm exhausted. A 5-minute video detailing all the hoops you have to jump through and things you have to add to make this camera usable. I love the look of RED as much as anyone, but the basic functionality they didn't bother to include in this camera is staggering. But that's RED's MO... Sell you a camera that's fairly useless out of the box and then get you spend thousands and thousands more to bring it up to sea level. I just rigged my C70 with a Kondor Blue cage, a PDMovie Live Air 2 to add servo zoom to my lens, and a small rig wooden left side handle so I could have a two handed rig, but those were things to accent my set up, not get it to barely functional. I can shoot with the C70 out of the box and it looks (and sounds) fantastic (and with 4 internal/embedded channels of audio). The Komodo baffles me. It's like buying a car, but wheels, windshield, and seats need to be purchased seriously.
Couple things make the RED superior for *certain* projects (ie: creative work: narrative, commercial, music videos etc.): 16 bit vs 10 bit, 6k sensor is superior the 4k sensor of the FX6/C70 in terms of sharpness which is very apparent when you view them side by side, and the global shutter for fast moving subjects. The GS makes a big difference with how natural motion looks to the eye. Anyone bashing the Komodo isn't considering what it's primary use is. It's amazing for creative/commercial work and the image quality is second to none in the price range. It is not the optimal choice (IMO) for run and gun stuff with wildly varying lighting conditions, fast corporate workflows, and lower budget stuff that doesn't warrant the cost of the camera. The C70 is designed to be an all-in-one 4K 10 bit video solution and the Komodo was designed to be a crash cam for making movies. They both have crossover, but consider their original intent.
@@dna8269 Well put. I also came to the conclusion that a strength of the RED "brain" model is that you ultimately get to 'build' the camera exactly as you want it. But it's definitely a mistake (and certainly was on my part) to compare it to the C70. While everyone is stacking them against each other because the 'base' pricing is similar, the Komodo is actually more like a $10k camera once you've built it out to get everything you'll need. But the beauty of doing that is that you get to build it using all the pieces you actually want. I went through 4 different cages on the C70 until I found the one that suited my shooting style and needs. I now see the Komodo as the mega version of that concept.
How do You sync audio timecode with red komodo?

Hey Carlos, great video and rig! Quick question for you, what brand is the blue cable going into a splitter and then your monitor?
Garbage cable it doesn’t work switched to the Mutiny isolator.
Looks dope

I'll go watch the nd video next 🙏🏽

Can’t wait to see the V Raptor rig

In the Komodo : The authentic red cfast cards and the angle bird version ? Both work but do you notice the angle bird ones get a little hot ?
the SanDisk cards get hot too...I think it's the media type

Is there a reason why you chose the small hd 702 touch over the indie 7 and cine 7 models for komodo ?
this is as bright as the Cine 7 which is much brighter than the Indie 7 also the color space calibration for the monitor impacted my decision.
