- These are 4 great recordings of Broadway songs by the wonderful Jerry Orbach. These include:
1. Try To Remember (The Fantasticks)
2. Promises Promises (Promises Promises)
3. There's A Small Hotel (On Your Toes)
4. Razzle Dazzle (Chicago)
Most people know Jerry Orbach from the television drama "Law and Order". What they don't know is that he has appeared in more Broadway productions than any other performer. He starred in the original production of some great musicals including "The Fantasticks", "Chicago" and "42nd Street". Orbach also starred in Disney's animated musical "Beauty and the Beast", as the voice (both singing and speaking) of the French-accented candelabrum Lumière. I have included many lovely pictures of the talented Jerry Orbach in this video. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments. - Видеоклипы
What a handsome and sweet man.
Musical theatre is so important to US history.
Mr. Orbach is a KING.
He was an awesome Broadway presence.
Mr. Orbach also had lots to say re: Law and Order.
His family just know him a Dad/Grandad.
I wish you peace, love, and no pain, as you watch above us.
I’ve been a broadway musical fan since I was 10 and first heard my uncle play the soundtrack of “My Fair Lady”. When my parents bought the soundtrack of “ Camelot”, I was hooked. By the time I was grown and married, I owned a collection of over 147 original cast recordings of Broadway musicals and Jerry Orbach’s marvelous voice was in several of the . My own children loved him in “Beauty and the Beast” and his delighted portrayal of Lennie Briscoe in the “ Law and Order” franchise rounded out my admiration for his talents. I miss him, but I’m glad we had him. Thanks for posting this lovely tribute.👍🏾
Back in 1967 or 68 I was fortunate to see Jerry Orbach perform in Promises Promises at the Schubert Theater on Broadway. He was spectacular and I will never forget it.
Miss him. What vast talents. Saw him star. In The Fantastics on our honeymoon.Just wonderful.
My favorite Jerry Orbach.
Great compilation. He was the king of Broadway!
I saw Orbach in the national tour of Promises Promises and the L.A. pre-Broadway tour of Chicago. What a dynamite performer.
I envy you getting to see him twice!
I saw him on Broadway in "Promises" in 1972. He was simply amazing. I loved him on "Law and Order" and was so sad when he died.
@@jacquieharris389 The man was gorgeous. Those sultry, bedroom eyes, his voice and the sexy smile ...Lord have mercy. I absolutely have a crush.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jerry Ohrbach was wonderful. Try to Remember was always his and always will be.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He was so handsome, talented, and we just never knew it. So glad to discover this.
jerry is amazing. i always loved him. he was the BEST one on ALL of the law and order series.
My God, he was magnificent.
He always looked so unprepossessing - and was a multiple talent in reality. Very impressive.
All of his talents but there is one talent of his I haven't seen in the comments yet. Jerry Orbach was also very talented at shooting pool. He was great at playing against an opponent & at trick shots! A true example of a Renaissance man & a true gentleman!! I'm just like everyone else in the comments, I miss him too!! Years after Dirty Dancing was made Patrick Swayze was asked about Jerry Orbach. Part of his answer was that after every scene he would immediately go to Jerry & ask for his opinion & his guidance, respect doesn't get any higher than that!! Absolutely incredible!!
He was so good, did not matter what he did it always seemed to came out right....
I was today years old when I found all this out about Jerry O.
I appreciate him even more than I did before.
Hunt down his performance on the Tony Awards for Chicago. Fabulous 💕
@@lilbatz it's on right here on RUclips.
Only knew of him from Law & Order. An amazing all round performer. Rest in Peace Jerry.
i REMEMBER jERRY FROM BROADWAY BRILLANT MAN MISS HIM
He was great in l Law and Order. The main reason that I and millions more watched “Lenny”. The show demonstrated his well rounded talent. I don’t get tired of watching him in videos of “42 st” where he shows his talent in singing, dancing and acting.
Remember him on several Murder She Wrote episodes as private detective Harry McGraw .
My favorite song. Orbach such a talent. He will be missed
Really amazing and talented guy, continue to Rest In Peace Jerry orbach!
yeah, a musical theatre legend off Broadway and on Broadway.
Wonderful talent,so sadly missed
Saw him in Chicago on Broadway. Such a talented guy, and a gentleman!
Wonderful actor and singer!!!
When I first heard 'There's a Small Hotel', I thought I was listening to Perry Como, silly me!
Nice to have these records. They remind us that Jerry sang very doggone well.
His version of "Promises, Promises" is the best.
3:21 absolutely in his range - like it was written for him. his voice just soared... ❤
Thanks for posting this compilation, Jeffrey A. I believe I could listen to him sing forever.
Love Lenny Briscoe - and Harry McGraw....but that it's 10% of what Jerry Orbach could do.
Steven Chappell remember he guested on the Golden Girls as an old boyfriend of Dorothy????????!!!!…I hope you will reply to this
@@sherryhannah498 Not a show I watched.
Thank you for keeping his memory alive
I miss him!! My Detective Brisco!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very talented man there... and a hell of a good pool player too!
An amazing collection of photographs. The songs demonstrate what great chops he had!
Thanks for this compilation.
Thanks for the upload! Who knew Detective Briscoe was such a good singer?
Fabulous
Me 😂!
I'm surprised they didn't incorporate his Broadway talents into the "L&O" show, like doing an undercover caper in a B'way theater.
One of the greats, and one of the last of the true "song-and-dance" men!

He was impressive.
That voice....holy cow. So strong and powerful yet soothing. I've fallen so hard for him.
He's been in more Broadway shows than any other male performer. So much talent.
@@Streisand70 Do you have any idea how old he was in the pic of him wearing the tank top @0:18?
I stumbled upon this while looking for lyrics. Thank you so much - you’ve made me very happy to remember this wonderful fella.
Love Jerry!
when I was 9, my adopted parents and I celebrated their anniversary by going to see the Fantasticks with Jerry Orbach. At one point he came to my seat and gave me a marigold.I did thank him, but I didn't realize he was still there, when I whispered to my Mom that I'm surprised, the alcohol on his breath didn't kill the beautiful flower. He didn't take the flower away, but smiled and rubbed my head. When I thought then, that his breath smelt of alcohol, but his voice took my breath away. He just wonderful. When I heard that he died , I felt part of my childhood died too . RIP Mr. Orbach
He was a really talented singer and actor who did more Broadway roles than any other actor. His version of "Try To Remember" from "The Fantasticks" is the best. He was drinking? Really?
You were nine years old and recognized alcohol on someone's breath? Unusual.
If he came up to me I would have blushed. I'm 48 and I would've turned into a shy schoolgirl all over again.
As a teenager, I remember first seeing Jerry Ohrbach on tv crime shows, where he was usually cast as a villain (a Mafia-type bad guy). (This was the 1970s.) Years later he was Lenny Briscoe, the wise-cracking homicide detective on "Law & Order." Long before that, I think I heard him on an LP of musical hit songs we had, with him singing "Try to Remember." 😊
Came to this from an obituary of Tom Jones, writer of Try to Remember's clever, poignant lyrics. Jerry Orbach had fabulous range as a performer. And such presence. If he never played Abraham Lincoln, he should have.
@@carolynnomura271 I'm just over the moon for Jerry Orbach. Totally head over heels.
Who can compare to JJerry Orbach today? Nobody.
He was The Best!
Jerry could get it.
Rest easy friend. 💐
That first song, Try to Remember, was recorded when he was only 24 years old.
24 years old. And with a voice like that…
thank you so much for this- i am a HUGE fan of JO on anything braodway tv movies
Harry loves him.
Absolutely number ONE! 💋
There is a video on You tube with a vocal coach discussing why Bacharach's "Promises Promises" is one of the most difficult songs to sing in pop music. There are so many key changes, arpeggios end with a full octave jump. Singers like Dionne Warwick and Jerry Orbach who recorded this song made an extremely difficult song sound as though it was easy to sing.
@@Streisand70 interesting. I know there are several songs around that are almost impossible for normal people (😂😂) to sing!
Jerry Orbach, ohev shalom
He had the most sultry bedroom eyes....😍
Thanks for this collection!
I knew him from _Law and Order_ and other shows where he typically played a cop or a heavy. While researching the song _Mack the Knife_ a couple years ago, I found out that he sang the song in a translated adaptation of the 1928 German play, _The Three Penny Opera._ He sang it in 1955, and later that year Louis Armstrong fully switched it up into the jazz standard we're used to now. Hear Jerry's _Mack:_ ruclips.net/video/IsM0mfQH08E/видео.html
He even modeled clothes at a men's fashion show in 1977. There are pics of it on Getty Images. Damn he looked good especially when he flashed that gorgeous smile.
So sorry it took me this long to find this. Great man!
FANTASTICKS ran forever!
That pic of him @0:18....WOW. Who knew Lenny Briscoe once looked like that?
I was lucky to have watched Chicago with the original cast when it previewed in Los Angeles back in 1975 I believe. I also saw Jerry Orbach in 42nd Street, that song was also a showstopper but not included here.
good intonation
Jerry was quite handsome as a young man; quite the entertainer and singer..
Michael Marette I thought he was handsome as an older guy who hope you will reply to this
He was so sexy and had such a gorgeous smile.
Jerry Orbach played Jennifer Gray's father in "Dirty Dancing."
@barbnahoumi65 he sure did and I have the film and soundtrack
I would have taken Jerry Orbach over Swayze anyday.
Did Law & Order ever include a hat tip to Razzle Dazzle?
Wow, and all this time I just assumed Jerry Orbach's ONLY claim to fame was giving Oral Sex the nickname, "Lewinsky" on the show, 'Law & Order'. The guy ain't a half bad singer.
Sounds like Frank Sinatra when he sings the hotel song. It's still hard to see him in any other role except when he's Lenny Briscoe in law and order..
@michaelmarette4423 did you see the first Beauty and the Beast movie from 1991????...Jerry was the voice of Lumiere the candlestick
@@sherryhannah498 no I didn't. I actually didn't know who Jerry Orbach was until I saw him on law and order.. awesome talent gone way too soon.
Read the little story of Jerry Orbach having to learn Promises, Promises
I think Jerry could have played James Bond but he was American
does anyone know if any of his musicals are available on dvd or cd or stramed anywhre?
He has been in more musicals than almost any other male performer. He is on the original production of The Fantasticks, Chicago, and 42nd Street. I know he is also on a CD for Oklahoma, Promises Promises, and Carousel. That should be a good start for you.
thnaks-- very helpful aas a huge fan i know ALL his works movies, tv and stage/musical ggo to know i will look for those
@@Streisand70 You forgot that he also starred in the original Broadway production of CARNIVAL, where he sang this gem: ruclips.net/video/6Ie3hsoSBEE/видео.html
