I have almost solely played Thor this season and I absolutely love it. One thing that I have noticed works really well is dashing in popping your bubble on backline if applicable and then popping ult because they get slowed coming out of the bubble on top of taking a little damage
also not always the best option but if you need to burst down a squishy you can primary hammer throw primary it is a little animation cancel that helps squash bugs. Very situational but can help with some much needed extra damage
@@notloccoltonTM it is a good trick if you know that the enemy can't run away from you. if they can run then just keep dashing into them. dash also does a bit of damage and you can push an enemy out of the healer's line of sight.
GREAT use for Thor ult, especially in lower ranks, is to counter Jeff. If you hear a Jeff about to ult just stand with your healers. When his little pool pops up to swallow everyone immediately ult. You'll crash down and kill him immediately after his animation finishes.

Depends how you play him tho I usually have most damage blocked and hold the point while also dealing the most damage. He basically does everything
To every Thor player around here that might not know, you always have 1 second to dash when awakening ends. I was confused by this, but you ALWAYS can do it and that's how you use your awakening: always plan your timing to be able to survive the 6 seconds and dash back to safety.

2 things are great about Thor beside the obvious ones. MOST of the time your Lightning Awakening damage is so unexpected (especially at the beginning of any match first contact) and it is very high damage that you get a kill outright. You are a melee tank so most shield tanks have disadvantage against you which are meta.
From a Diamond Thor Main, this is why I play him. Thor can jump in a fight, deliver an ass-whooping with free 2 Day Shipping, and get out before your healers know you are dead. Funnest tank in the game IMO. Easy enough that you can hop in and learn his mechanics in a few game. Hard enough that you have to work a little for it. But Diving through Strange portals is Black Air Force One energy and that's what a good Thor brings to the team.
The reason I love seeing videos like this is because Tim is giving these guys EXPOSURE!
That is HUGE in the streaming world.
He spectates them, after that people are literally like “oh wow this guys nice, I’m gonna check him out”
Brings the other streamer brand new followers and people wanting tips.
And he gets the pleasure of learning from these players while also praising them
It’s the best series Tim has that makes the most effective growth in the community and the game itself.
His ult isnt underwhelming. It just isnt broken like a moon ult. THORs ult is very precise and purposeful. Meant to either kill their healer(s) or force them to prematurely use their broken ult in order to stay in the fight. It forces their hand. ALSO, it very effective when shifting/dash back line hit their healer once or twice then dropping bubble. (This damages them and slows them when leaving bubble) to perfectly pair with thors ult. In my opnion his ult isnt OP but very effective if done correctly.
I love when people say a “weak ult” is something that won’t team wipe. An ult that kills even two people is a good ult. Thor’s does damage over time in a huge AoE then does massive damage when it ends. That’s massive. Just use it right.

Unless you're already low when he goes to ult or you're just unfortunately where he slams down, Thor isn't gonna do much of anything that can't be healed through

I agree as a Thor main I’m saving my ult to clear point by making everyone run away, I’m causing their healers to panic use their ult, or I’m deep in back line attacking their healers and have one of them half health. Do I think his ult could use a buff 100% am Inokay with it if they don’t 100%

Well when u mostly play Spiderman it doesn't really bother u cause u can just pull people out of the puddle but in most cases u wanna focus the Loki clones and the stone above them as soon as possible cause it's basically invincibility
@slickshotzz13 unfortunately it was a general statement by him no character based and the addition of "their lifespan is short" just made the whole statement really bad advice on his part.
Not only is hitting them in the domain like invincibility it's literally negative damage because it turns your damage into even more healing

Pro tip if you are accurate and close use your hammer throw mixed with primary attack to animation cancel and do extra damage without rune-ing. That’s important if you want to save your runes for the next close exchange or if you have to hammer throw to get out

The ultimate is pretty weak, but if u have a strange ult to pair it with, it becomes broken.
One thing I see that is WILDLY underestimated is thor's E bubble thing combo'd with his ult. His E does 40 dmg AND applies a 30% MOVEMENT SLOW to enemies who try to leave it. So if you shift into the enemy team, pop ur E, THEN ult, anyone caught in his E that tries to run away gets a 30% slow so they almost always can't. This guarantee's me at least one kill with my ult like 70-80% of the time, and if not, baits enemy defensive ults.
The hammer throw is underrated. Melee -> melee -> melee -> animation cancel throw -> repeat is a great way to keep up constant bonus health in a fight and does more damage than the dash. Can delete a squishy insanely fast.
I'm pretty sure in high ranking you cant stand still and brawl with melees for that long without getting deleted.
It's great against squishies in 1v1 when you don't need to displace them and don't want to waste all the Thorforce on an Awakened. But it seems that especially in high rank it's gonna almost always be better to displace someone with the shift or awaken for a ton of burst damage

@@jared1465 getting an enemy out of healer's line of sight will often be the better option. i use hammer throw when it's a plain 1v1 situation, like a wolverine or another thor trying to challenge. but usually the other guy is being healed and you want to push them into a corner or something.
Tim I think you should put Ninja As Thor I mean it fits his playstyle He enjoys to run in there in the middle of the team I think he’ll be a good fit

Thor is definitely being slept on, but like you said he really cant solo tank. He CAN peel as well as he can displace tanks like a beefier Wolverine, but that is nothing on shields. He can preassure enemy team almost constantly with the displace and the lightning rune. And oh boy he will roll your backline if you try to ignore him.
this describes thor perfectly lol, he definitely cant solo tank, he needs a groot or strange to control the frontline for him. but hes a great counter to when the other team has strange or magneto if wolverine is banned and hes a backline destroyer with his thorforce.
@@crowsburner if the other team is pretty bad you can solo tank, but you have to shift your style to just dashing endlessly in order to generate bonus hp, and being hard to hit.
As a thor main in plat 1 i agree. He's a diver. And works well with someone else diving with you.
Surefour is also one of the top Thor mains which I love! He’s one of my favorite og overwatch players

When he’s low, he gets in LOS of his support. He dives in ways where he can get in and get out!

As a thor main im so happy to see the community actually starting to like him. Makes me feel good hopoing in lobbies and seeing thors pretty often
So as a Thor main I can say you can play on kind of in every position. He can help save your backline against divers, you can bully their backline. Where you can go head-to-head on a point with their tanks and push them around. Displacement is key. And then using his abilities usually in twos is what you want to do. I'll push someone hit him with a hammer then push him again and repeat. Or sometimes you push melee into your Thor Force mode. Also you can put ur e ability (that creates a dome) and push them through it. every time an enemy is pushed through they take a little thunder damage and get slowed.

I watched half this video and went 45-3 in my next game on Thor. It was wild how much this opened my eyes to the power of Thor. Then of course I got put on two teams that had 0 kills and we lost in 5 min. The pain this game can bring after you have a good game is legendary.

34:17 As a Thor main, yeah there are a lot of things that can just cancel his ult before he goes in the air. It happens a lot to me when I try to ult in a crowded space to go for a bunch of kills.
I always consider Thor ult like being used in a Genji type of way where u just launch yourself in the air and then pop it so it's harder for people to stun him

For 5 seconds after Thor uses an ability, landing a melee on an enemy will give him back 1 Thorforce.
Storm Surge doesnt cc, it's just a displacement, so it doesn't cancel ults
One thing surefour does better is ults. The correct way to ult is to shit onto an enemy support, E, and then ult. They can't outrun your ult now, and they will either pop their ult to survive or die. Every single time.
I absolutely love sniping supports on the enemy backline with Thor's Awakening Rune! The shorter ones like Jeff and Rocket are tough, but any of the ones standing upright are super vulnerable because of how quickly the damage can come and the fact that it's a wide arc of lightening that doesnt need to hit directly even.

Not sure if you know this, Tim, but when Thor uses his electrical projectile state, he also gains a damaging AOE around him. So, the ideal way to burn someone down is using the move up close

Thors ult is great. It’s just good enough that the enemy healers need to counter it or die, but it’s not broken. Trading the Thor ult for the healer ult is a good trade.

1) Loki's Rune Stones -- Namor's octopi, Penni's spider mine/turrets, etc... getting people to shoot stationary objects is surprisingly difficult. I've watched DPS literally run right past ankhs or turrets that were melting them. Asked a Starlord to shoot the Penni mine once. To his credit, he complied. The problem is that the *flying* guy with *guns* chose to run right into the nest to shoot the turret that was only about 10m away in plain sight. :| He died, of course.
2) I keep saying they should make Thor's ult AoE a cone rather than a cylinder. Have it cover more space the higher he goes, so it becomes very powerful in open areas, but limited in closed-off ones.

thor is all about controling the space. your presense alone is enough to win an area so its about playing at your tempo. the key though is you move people out of position and break up their tempo and force them into making mistakes.
Proud to say I’m a Diamond 1 Thor! But yeah his ult, against top players is almost impossible to hit unless you time it perfectly.
Love Thor! He can also chunk a squishy down fast by animation cancelling using his right click. Only downside is that it uses a hammer, so you should only do it if you know you’re going to kill. Otherwise his right click is useless.
For those wondering, YES you can ult and go through the strange portal as CnD. I did it myself by accident once. I assume in this case the cart might have been blocking her from going through maybe? or maybe elevation? not sure.

11:45. Yeah. Solo tank as Thor is so rough. Literally, any other tank is a huge deal. Hes great with Captain tbh since he buffs him, and they can go crazy together.
32:42 yeah, its more damage than dash, but its got 2 downsides over dash. 1, it doesnt displace and 2, if you miss the global cd thor has doesnt start till its back. Imo, they need to buff it. If it barely passed through the target then csme back it would do 100 damage, 70 on hit and 30 on return. This would make it useful.

Using your hammer throw while meleeing some one is under rated. 1 it’s a animation cancel and 2 you get bonus sheild after the hammer throw and 3 if your going to shift in and use your E you’ll have extra hammers anyways.
