I'm still not super jazzed on the box changes, but I am glad to see that everything is kept nice and secure within the smaller boxes. Also, loved the intro, lol!
I hope this backfires so much. I agree a lot about “Sad excuse in saving the environment”. There’s apparently a big brain theory that GSC is doing this to push its audience to preorder thus securing the contents of the box & discourage them to buy secondhand nendoroids from the lack of window
Which makes the whole "about the environment" thing even more BS, because selling and buying figures second hand and thus extending their longevity is better for the environment than buying newly produced products with disposable packaging...
Thank you for sharing your observations and answering questions from your viewers and Facebook followers. I will never understand why companies can't simply be upfront about these kind of changes. It is obviously a cost cutting measure and environment considerations are just a side benefit. I am certain if GSC had come out and said that this was to make their business sustainable long term but they are taking the opportunity to make their packaging more environment friendly, people would be more sympathetic. As it stands, this new box makes Nendoroid feels far less premium, increases the chances for paint transfer for parts once they are taken out of their plastic packaging, decreases the chance for larger accessories and number of parts, increases scanning opportunities in secondhand market and more. The only upside for collectors is the box taking up less space if they keep it. I genuinely don't know what is there to be happy about. If they really want to prioritize the environment, they should look for new materials to make and paint figures with. :P
they should add one extra layer of card box for the front part, i don't feel very safe as shipping/delivery have fairly good change it will dent the front packaging, might damage the figure if deep enough. Something like Banpresto's Prize figure card box-only inner packaging is much safer.
What I hate most about the new box is that there is no plastic tray to hold the extra parts... Extra parts can only be put loosely inside the box. Plus, when you close the box, the faceplate is too close to it and may leave smudges on the nose.
And you know what that sounds like? A perfect ploy to start selling storage containers that accommodate the nendo too not just the little ones they currently sell. Either we will be seeing a new storage product or they will push the little containers they have
I personally think they should have inverted the face plate segment with the noses facing inside (towards another orange box inside in the case of Taiga) instead of facing outwards towards the periphery of the box. I don't know why they don't do that, unless there is something that didn't cross my mind on why this is a bad idea (paint transfer from the orange boxes itself?). As for the small parts, well i think it is quite obvious at this point GSC designed the packaging in a way where they don't want you to keep your figures and their parts back in the box for whatever reason.
7:43 i'm kinda okay with that I still feel we need to see the item using the box window Unless GSC increase their production consistency & security (being sure they have the correct product inside the correct box) Really wonder what happen in japan that companies feel like to go "green", especially since they aren't curbing item pricing to I expect fink conspiracy
I still stand by what I said it looks like a bootleg and ik there’s bound to be a defect which is why I always love window packaging but thx for answering and reviewing it bro appreciate it also the new thinner base sucks
Yea just looks cheap, it’s just a minus to the product as opening the figure is part of the process, and this cheaper packaging just makes the experience worse. Just a silly change.
I guess with the Nendoroid doll line doing windowless boxes for a while now, I should have seen this coming. Hopefully the "reissued" Nendoroids will still keep the og boxes as we've seen up to now, (like we've seen with Kirby, Super Mario, & Attack on Titan.)
I think people wanted to see a drop test of the actual Nendoroid box. When ordering from GoodSmileUS 99% of the damage happens in their warehouse when repackaging their Japan imports. They really don't give af what it looks like when they ship it out. In the past I would have nendoroids come in with the plastic blister inside completely shattered and the nendroid sliding around freely in the back getting scraped up. From my testing this doesn't really happen in shipping (if hit hard enough it could), it usually occurs when dropping the product box from a few feet off the ground onto concrete (like in a warehouse). From first impressions the new box does look more durable in this regard since cardboard doesn't shatter, but I am curious how resistant it is to impacts/being crushed as well as any potential paint transfer like the faceplates and other parts not 100% covered on all sides with plastic protection. Would love to see someone toss this new box a few stories off the ground a couple of times as a worse case scenario just to see what happens.
If you drop test an actual figure box without a carton box outside, it doesn't matter which nendo or even scale figure it is. It's guaranteed to take damage, even if it's a $300 scale figure. And there would really be no difference between the old and the new box in this regard, both will take damage. I don't know how it is like over in Good Smile US, but if a figure arrives heavily damaged, most of the time people will blame the seller or the shipping company, not the manufacture of the product. The seller did not pack the figure properly, and the shipping company for being too rough with parcels that have a fragile label pasted. You need to remember figure boxes are designed to resist drop damage, not crush damage. If the plastic blister inside shatters or splits open, that indicates crush damage. That blister is of a similar material to disposable plastic water bottles, it will dent when dropped but it won't split open unless being badly crushed. The courier stacked a box of bricks on top of tiny boxes and it's solely their fault because it's common sense to load an empty truck with bigger heavier boxes at the bottom first before putting the lighter items on top.
It just looks cheap, and it *IS* cheap, this is just a big downgrade & I think it’s going to turn a lot of people off them. Because once people start to feel like they’re buying an inferior product they’re going to stop buying them. I just hate windowless boxes, I hate when scales come in a windowless box, it’s just so much better when you can see the figure in the box.
Thank you so much for addressing the survivability! It was really my only concern considering carboard can cave in, but I'm no longer concerned at all. Aside from that I think there's a lot of positives with this box - small and foldable, its gonna save space and money. I agree on the product presentation but its possible to fix if good smile steps up with the design, i keep my koto model kit boxes due to the art, or just add the window but keep the foldability.
The way you place her on the stand is wrong. The short part is suppose to go backwards and the bendy part is suppose to bend back so it looks like a tick and wouldnt be too forward mid air. The stand part is changed to bendy for nendos with long hair. Im personally fine with the new box, i just think they should add a window (to prevent more easy bootlegs) and they should get rid of the stupid stand already. Unless it comes with like floating effects, if not i don see a point for that stand. Just give people the easel stand they already have already. They just wan us to buy those easel stands separately and thats so scummy of them. Personally im cool with the packaging of the small parts cus i hated how i have to take those small items out of the boxes anyways to prevent paint stickiness long term in since i don open the boxes often and small items often drop around in the box when i move it. Since the box is smaller though, they should have it cheaper too since its just nendo and meant to be cheaper compared to figures but at this point prize figures and alot of figures are cheaper then them now.
@@EXkurogane Hahaha no it's fine! I mean they also ought to have it in instructions for it too since its a new product too in a way. Their first time doing this too after all. Thank you for your hard work and sacrifice to test the stuff for us! Fully appreciated it ^^)/
Smaller and smaller boxes with no change in price is what gets me. Before you could argue the display portion was a selling point now you can't even have that.
I wish every company would secure their figures this good in the box. GSC will just toss it in with a little bit of air cushion on one side and that's it.
i agree that box damage from shipping is the least of my concern for the new box design. The only time my nendo box broke was because a china seller gave me a damaged box in the first place or when i bought it secondhand from someone who didnt store the boxes properly. In fact, the smaller the box, the least likely it will break i feel. I wonder if without the plastic blister package, would the plasticiser/sticky issue be improved. i feel there are more gaps to allow air though.
Hello sir i cant help but heard u said u brought your figure from japan then ship it to malaysia , may i ask how much would u pay for the custom fees when these figure arrived at malaysia since im also living in malaysia too i want to buy a figure outside of malaysia as well ...i did heard if the item is above rm500 then we might have to pay for a custom fees right ..
The lack of window is still one of the worst things GSC could've done to the box for the "sealed box" collectors market. People ragged on Hasbro for doing this with their Marvel Legends and GIJoe Classified lines and those are markedly cheaper (usually). While doing so isn't my cup of tea, its a market that exists and this especially ruins it for those people since you're even more reliant on QC than those who do open their collectables.
Getting the Stark Nendoroid from Frieren soon, and hopefully, he will not be in this type of box 😭 EDIT: Also because of the base, because he wouldn't fit in with Fern and Frieren
Great comment and insights. It's the typical greenwashing again. Everyone's tired of these big corporate companies that tries to pass off cost saving as saving the environment lol.
Thanks for showing us the new box. While I understand everyone, who has a problem with the new design, I don't really care one way or the other, especially because I once got scammed by an online seller, who simply posted pictures of the original nendo I bought. So I am aware, that if someone wants to scam you, they will. As for why GS re-designed the boxes, my guess is, that it is because of the recycling system in Japan, which is crazy stric.
While I think they will probably be sturdy enough, I do think your "test" is kind of faulty as it assumes the box is always packaged correctly in the over shipping box. The main issue during shipping is when this is not the case en the figure box can move around a bit in the shipping box, you want the Nendo box to be sturdy enough to handle those cases and not only the perfect circumstances. I like the old ones more presentation wise, but I also like that the new ones can be stored flattened.
Yes, that's right. I assumed the box is always packaged correctly because if it wasn't, then any damages that happen can at least be partially blamed on the seller for not packing it properly. If a seller does not pack properly any figure has a higher risk of damage, not just this nendo. Another factor that i did not take into account is one single box containing multiple figures, where if you have a giant scale figure with a huge and heavy box packed together with small and lighter boxes then the latter can be crushed by bigger boxes.
First world problems for sure...the box will be within a rigid brown shipping box, there is no way it would be damaged, for those worried about bootlegs - you will know based on pricing being too good to be true. Worried about damage/bootlegs? Buy from respectable retailer.
I find the new Box better to be true. Would be cool if there is still a small Window to see how the real Figure looks but the old Boxes just look like a Box from 1990s
BREAKING NEWS! GOOD SMILE IS CANCELLING THE NEW BOX DESIGN CHANGE!
News: www.goodsmile.com/en/news/6100
Exactly, it's not about the durability nor environment, it's all about the product presentation. Btw, awesome video!
they use plastic for figures which makes things meh and many collectors dont throw away the blister anyways
The older box do look higher end. Tho I save all the boxes of my figure, so box that can be flatten is good for me.
Yes, you can't really flatten the older box because of the plastic blister inside. In that sense the new one is an advantage in space saving
